We're STAMMA. We exist to create a world that makes space for stammering. Where a stammer is embraced as just a difference. Where no-one judges us on our stammer or the way we choose to deal with it. 

We will stand up for and empower those who stammer and challenge discrimination wherever we find it. We will provide support and information and fight for speech and language therapy services for those who want it. No matter how you talk, we're here for you. Join us and help the public understand that stammering is not a sign of being shy, drunk, dishonest, nervous or weak. It's simply how some of us talk.

We provide a free national helpline, email and webchat service, online resources and information, support for local groups and professional networks, for families with children who stammer, and an Advocacy Service for those who have been discriminated against because of their stammer.

STAMMA’s Helpline Services include our phoneline, webchat and email support services and are a hugely important part of STAMMA’s work. This is frontline stuff, responding to people reaching out for information and support. It’s a great opportunity to spend time chatting with people who stammer, as well as their parents, grandparents, teachers and employers, taking the time to make space to listen and to value what they have to say. Where appropriate we then signpost people to useful information, support and services.

We use a virtual call centre which means you can take calls and webchats from home, using a desktop or laptop computer.

Our helpline is manned by our amazing volunteers from 10am - 2pm (our morning shift), and from 4pm - 8pm (our evening shift), Monday to Thursday. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can commit to one of the following shifts on a weekly basis:

Mondays 4pm - 6pm

Thursday 4pm - 8pm

We think that you (and our callers!) will get the most out of this opportunity if you're able to volunteer with us for at least 12 months or more. By gradually learning and developing your confidence in the role, you can have the biggest impact. 

About the role

Working within our Helpline Services, we’re hoping you’ll feel comfortable to:

• Take helpline calls (listening and speaking on the phone)
• Respond to webchats (reading on-screen messages and typing responses)
• Sending occasional emails

If you wish to, you can also be linked to an area of project work. That way, if the helpline services are quiet during your shift, you can get involved in other areas of STAMMA’s work. Project work is likely to involve reading and reviewing documents and resources, contributing to discussions and campaign ideas, and helping develop new resources.

We provide structured, online training that you can complete at your own pace, but is likely to take about 8-10 hours in total to complete. Following the training, you’ll have practice helpline calls and webchats. If you feel ready after that, you’ll start working in the helpline services. Ongoing support includes:

• Monthly helpline services meetings where you can meet other helpline volunteers. These monthly meetings include a short training session and discussion where we share and learn from our experiences of different calls and webchats.
• We have a WhatsApp group where you can keep in touch with other volunteers.
• Volunteer supervisors are available for one-to-one support and discussions.
• Access the training modules as many times as you want.

Who are we looking for?

You’re likely to enjoy volunteering in the Helpline Services if you:

• have a genuine curiosity about people and their experiences
• are able to understand written and spoken English
• are comfortable enough to speak on the telephone
• are comfortable with basic email functions
• have good administration skills
• enjoy listening and talking to people

It’s not essential to stammer yourself if you’re interested in working in our helpline, but it can be an advantage if you do, or if you are the parent of a child who stammers. Many of our callers find it really helpful to know that they’re speaking to someone who really ‘gets it’ and who has that personal insight into some of the issues and questions they have.

This is a volunteer role is remote, so you will need access to:

• a quiet place where you can work in privacy and not be overheard during calls
• a mobile phone or landline
• a computer or laptop

Key responsibilities

• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers pursues its objectives
• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers applies its resources carefully and responsibly
• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in direction to ABandOfBrothers – setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and measuring performance
• Keep the young men we exist to support at the heart of decision making
• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers complies with the various legislation relating to charities
• Safeguard the good name and values of ABandOfBrothers
• Ensure the effective administration of ABandOfBrothers
• Ensure the financial stability of ABandOfBrothers
• Protect and manage the property of the charity and ensure the proper investment of the charity's funds

In addition, all Trustees should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions and provide honest and constructive criticism, advice and comments.

Further duties

• Support our staff to improve operations by bringing specialist knowledge and skills, contacts and networks and experience on different aspects of the operations as required
• Read Board papers carefully in advance of meetings
• Keep informed of the services provided by ABandOfBrothers
• Network where possible on behalf of ABandOfBrothers to support income generation from organisations and individuals

Further duties of Trustees as a group

• Be accountable to funders for the services provided and money spent
• Appoint charity leadership
• Approve major actions of ABandOfBrothers, such as capital spending and major programme changes
• Annually review the performance of the Board and take steps to improve its performanceSeek new Trustees when appropriate
• Appoint independent auditors

What We're Looking For

We aim for our Trustee Board as a group to have a mix of skills and backgrounds. Ultimately, we want to find people who are committed to ABandOfBrothers’s mission and who have the time to meaningfully engage at board level. Some additional things we're looking out for this time include:

• Lived experience of the care system or experience of the care system from your working life
• Lived experience of the criminal justice system (this might be your own experience, but could also be that of a partner or family member) or experience of the criminal justice system from your working life
• Experience of HR and employment law
• A background in successful charity fundraising or a network that you are happy to share to further our fundraising efforts

Time commitment

Our Board meets four-six times a year, for about three hours. Trustees also provide support and advice to the leadership team between meetings on subjects from fundraising to programmes. We are happy to pay travel and childcare expenses to enable Trustees to attend.

Trustees are normally appointed for four years. This term is sometimes then extended for a further four years to a maximum term of eight years.

Previous convictions

There's a small range of offences-  mainly fraud, sexual offences and terrorism-related offences – which can currently disqualify some people with unspent convictions from serving as a charity Trustee. Even in these cases, individuals can apply for a 'waiver' and this is often granted. If this is a matter of concern for you, please raise it- completely privately- with us via the email above. We’ll arrange an informal chat with one of our trustees to discuss.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. A bit more information about this role and the team

• This is a flexible role. The amount of time you offer can work to your availability and convenience.
• There may be opportunities for your activities to be fully remote and/or admin based if you'd prefer.
• You will need your own transport if you wish to attend events, ideally a car or van since items, stock and equipment will usually be needed.
• We ask that you complete training to support you in your role. This can be completed online if you have access to the internet and the necessary device (computer/laptop/tablet etc). Support can be offered or paper versions of much of the training if needed.

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. About Sanata Charitable Trust

The Sanata Charitable Trust is a registered charity and consists of two Trusts, one based in the United Kingdom, the other in Gilgil, Kenya.  The purpose of the UK Trust is to generate funds for the development and ongoing costs of the Restart Africa Children’s Centre.

Restart Africa children’s home was established in 2008 in response to the desperate needs of street children in Gilgil who are at serious risk of violence, abuse and starvation. Starting with 6 children, the centre has expanded over the years to a purpose-built home that currently has nearly 100 children in its care. Receiving no government funding, the centre is fully reliant on donations and sponsorship to finance operations. For the children in its care, Restart Africa fosters a loving, safe home, with meals, welfare and education, enabling them to enjoy their childhood and the opportunity to fulfil their potential. When it is time for the young adults to leave the permanent care of Restart, they are equipped with a qualification in their chosen field that will enable them to rejoin Kenyan society and build a success future for themselves. In conjunction with the life-changing benefits Restart Africa creates for those in its care, it also supports the local community by providing a range of employment opportunities in a safe and respectful working environment.

About the Role

The Marketing/Fundraising lead trustee role is being developed as part of our strategy to raise the profile of Restart Africa and diversify donation streams to ensure we grow sustainable financial foundations to underpin the amazing work of the Restart Africa centre. 

In addition to this Trustee role, we are also in the process of investing in a Marketing and Communications Executive which is a full time, permanent role based onsite at the Restart Africa centre.  The purpose of the role is to generate and publish emotionally engaging, authentic content that meets the needs of the varying stakeholder groups in a timely manner.

Main Trustee responsibilities:

· Provide the Board with strategic guidance for raising the profile of Restart Africa, diversifying donation streams, and addressing the ongoing engagement needs of differing stakeholder groups.

· Offer insights to the Board into advocacy trends, movement-building and changes in the fundraising landscape.

· Support the Marketing and Communications Executive in the development of the brand guidelines and strategy implementation.

· Communicate and coordinate actions required from fellow Trustees to support strategic implementation.

· Evaluate the channel/content performance and advise the Board on the success and challenges of the strategic implementation.

· Oversight of campaigns and marketing communications to ensure legal compliance, appropriate for the target stakeholders and are aligned with the charity’s policies and values.

Time Commitment

· 2 remote Board meetings per annum

· In person AGM, held in September

· Additional time as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role

Skills and Personal Attributes

· Have the enthusiasm, passion and engagement in the charity purpose to commit to delivering the requirements of a voluntary role.

· Experience in creating and leading the successful execution of a multi-channel marketing strategy is essential.

· Experience in fundraising is desirable but not essential.

· Time spent in Kenya, or experience working with a Kenya based entity, is desirable but not essential.

We welcome professionals from a wide range of industries. Our current mentors come from backgrounds including law, mental health, business, civil engineering, and architecture. Each mentor is carefully matched with students pursuing similar career paths to ensure meaningful and relevant engagement.

You do not need formal mentoring experience. We are seeking dedicated, emotionally intelligent, and inspirational professionals from around the world who bring real-world experience, strong communication skills, and empathy, and who are passionate about helping others grow.

This is not a traditional mentorship programme — it is a structured pathway designed to help young Afghan women develop the academic and professional skills needed to move forward despite the severe restrictions placed on them inside Afghanistan.

Applicants should hold either a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of professional experience. They should demonstrate emotional intelligence, clarity in communication, and the ability to guide, inspire, and challenge thoughtfully. A reliable internet connection is also essential.

Our students have completed six levels of English and are now enrolled in one of four mentorship semesters. Each mentee follows her own unique path, whether:

• Pursuing an online university degree,

• Applying for scholarships abroad (Europe or the US), or

• Seeking remote work or internships (particularly for qualified professionals currently unable to work inside Afghanistan).

This is an opportunity to make a tangible, life-changing impact. The women in our programme are courageous, determined, and eager to learn, yet they lack access to role models and practical guidance from professionals in their fields.

As a mentor, you will help them take the next step, n whether that means applying for scholarships, building a career portfolio, or gaining the confidence and professional skills to work remotely.

Our long-term goal is to move towards a 1:1 mentor-to-student ratio, ensuring that each young woman receives the personalised support she deserves.

Set within 4 acres of landscaped gardens in Brentwood, Essex the building and grounds accommodate 52 beds, 3 units with bungalows. The building also boasts a large fully equipped physiotherapy gym, Occupational Therapy skills kitchen, sensory room, and access to high/low tech neuro technology aids/equipment.

We offer a high staff to resident ratio and our Registered General Nurses are supported by skilled and highly trained Health Care Assistants. Training is key to delivering excellent care, all staff complete yearly mandatory training and yearly clinical competencies.

Working in partnership with patients, families, NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, Adult Social Care, and Health and Care Management Services offering flexible resident led pathways incorporating both specialised nursing and level 2b rehabilitation.

Placements can be funded via NHS Continuing Health Care (rehabilitation, nursing), Adult Social Care and can be privately funded.

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the governance and strategy of MNCC. Duties include:

• Supporting and challenging the CEO.
• Staying informed about the operating environment.
• Reviewing governance and attending Board meetings.

The ethos of the Confidence Academy is very simple: Participants get their money back once they attend their selected fitness and wellbeing events. When you show up for your health, when you show up for yourself... your refund is your reward. 

The Confidence Academy exists to make the tools of confidence-building — through improved nutrition, better mental and physical fitness, and community support — accessible to all, particularly to struggling and marginalised communities who often feel invisible or left behind. Health inequality is one of the biggest injustice of them all that we don't talk about yet our health is the sole foundation of our existence. 

Who Created The Confidence Academy: The Academy is founded by a 37 year old refugee from Bangladesh, Rayhana Sultan. She is an ex-prisoner. This social enterprise was created after she was able to rebuild her life after prison, hospital detention and recovery through psychotherapy and a supportive community. She is now a finance manager working for the local government in the UK. Outside her day job, she is a model, a panel advisor for the charity Working Chance and now through the Confidence Academy, she wants other people to find the inspiration to turn their pain into power, stigma into strength. 

The inception of this CIC is driven by the fact that nearly 60% of the UK population in 2023/24 were reported as obese or overweight. This is a national crisis in a context where our healthcare system is overstretched, support for mental health is not on par which can be exacerbated by health-related problems and an ageing population is awaiting us. Growing old or not being able to afford the regular gym in an era should not mean fitness services are inaccessible to you. So we are here to change it. 

What's happening Next: We will begin rolling out weekend fitness and wellbeing activities shortly after New Year 2026, supported by online seminars, podcast-style discussions, and community “vox pop” features that amplify real voices and lived experiences around health, confidence, and inclusion. These activities will include group exercise sessions, nutrition and wellness education, mindset and resilience workshops, and confidence-building programmes designed to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing.

Purpose of the Role:
You will be the voice and bridge of The Confidence Academy — handling communications with councils, gyms, venues, and contractors. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion for community wellbeing. You’ll work closely with other team members to bring creative and operational goals together.

Main Activities:

1. Communicate with local councils to secure community venues and spaces.

2. Contact gyms, instructors, and contractors to arrange hire of equipment and facilities.

3. Assist with email correspondence, partnership inquiries, and event logistics.

4. Maintain a contact log and follow up with potential partners or sponsors.

5. Work closely with other team members to align content and communication schedules.

6. Represent The Confidence Academy at community events or meetings where required.

7. Attend weekly team meetings (online or in-person depending on business needs).

8. Ensure all communication complies with GDPR and safeguarding principles.

Skills and Qualities:
