GRAPHIC DESIGNER - VOLUNTEER ROLE
We are looking for a volunteer to join our new startup at Unlock YOUR Potential in the volunteer role of GRAPHIC DESIGNER (Remote), where you will lead on the design of visual branding identity materials that will help us raise awareness and promote our brand new charity.

Our mission is to provide meaningful programmes that span employment, life skills, mentoring, personal development, and holistic support. We believe in building new pathways for those seeking positive change.
Role Overview:
As the Volunteer, Graphic Designer, you will play a crucial role helping our startup get recognised by creating visually appealing brand identity materials that will spear head our new start-up charity to success, such as;
- A branding guidelines demonstrating our positive uplifting brand identity and ensure our brand is consistent across the board.
- Social media posts to generate interest and help create a buzz around Unlock YOUR Potential and our work that helps people learn more about us and get us recognised.
- A5 size introduction brochure to help Unlock YOUR Potential raise its profile as we currently do not have a website.
- Branded info graphics that we can use for our social media and also our upcoming website to keep our brand consistent.
- Branded documents such as booklets, training manuals, forms and posters.

You can do that – right here at The Vegan Society.
We have an ever-growing Community Network of vegans just like you, who have a passion to volunteer and promote veganism where they live.
Every month, our Network choose from a range of outreach tasks. These could include town centre stalls, writing to a councillor or MP, sharing our campaigns on social media or contacting local businesses. You're in control of how much or how little you do.
As an Advocate, you will have a network of other Advocates and an Organiser in your area. Your Organiser will be your main point of contact. They will send you tasks every month and ask you to feed back on what you've completed and any positive outcomes.
Why do we need you to volunteer?
As the vegan community grows, veganism itself becomes better understood. We're finding that more people are looking to The Vegan Society to find out what being vegan is all about.
Local communities are starting to see the vegan movement as something real and something that’s happening in their area. More people are embracing a vegan lifestyle, which we welcome. From new businesses, to families, to councillors, many people need support. This could be with a range of topics: going vegan, finding correct information around a vegan diet, providing vegan options in their business, MPs listening to vegan constituents, and learning about our work.
Local issues are often unique and more varied than national issues. Our volunteers from local areas are vital! They enable us to share our messages and campaigns in an effective way. Research tells us that people are far more likely to trust information from a peer rather than an outside expert, so community volunteering vastly increases the impact of our campaigns.
Our network of committed local vegans across the country is growing! The Vegan Society organises various outreach activities to influence change in every level of society. There are a range of activities going on all the time, from general educational stalls at events to meeting with local policy influencers.
Advocates are a crucial voice in their own community. They ensure that our campaign messages are spread far and wide. They provide a strong vegan presence in local communities.
What does the Advocate role involve?
Being an Advocate for veganism with The Vegan Society will mean communicating with people in your local community. You'll share the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. You will form part of a local group, headed up by a local Organiser. The Organiser will feed back your collective efforts to staff. You will also be invited to our private Facebook group, for vegan socialising and ideas sharing.
You’ll stay in touch with the Organiser and bring your passion to tasks. Activities can range from staffing a stall to giving a talk at an employee event. It could also mean writing to a local newspaper or lobbying an MP.
Messaging can differ every month. Part of our mission statement is to ensure people can remain vegan, so you might focus on getting more vegan options available in local businesses. Or within our Live Vegan for Less campaign, you may share cheap vegan recipes to help people with the cost of living.
When acting as an Advocate, you will use The Vegan Society’s branding and messaging guidelines. Your local Organiser will guide you in doing this, as they hold physical resources and handbooks. You can report any issues and feedback you have to your Organiser. You can also contact staff if your Organiser isn't available or you have any problems.
What training and support is available?
You will be provided with a big welcome and full induction from your local Organiser. They will introduce you to the group and any actions that are ongoing. Any training and development will be provided via your Organiser, and you can also ask for specific training on any areas that you need some development in.
What skills would be useful in doing this role?
- The ability to stay motivated in order to achieve the best possible outcomes
- Good email etiquette, responding in a timely manner
- Committed to veganism and the mission of The Vegan Society
- Ability to stay calm if confronted with differing opinions or challenges
- A good communicator, with the ability to be persuasive
- Confident in communicating with people from a range of backgrounds
- Experience of campaigning
- Any experience in talking with members of the public through customer/public service would be helpful
- Awareness of current affairs, especially those that relate to veganism
- Regular availability and a willingness to stay committed to actions
- Good team player
How much time do I need to invest?
For Advocates, we ask for people to engage in a minimum of four to six actions per year. An example of an action could be writing to an MP or holding a stall. But the more you can do, the better! On occasion, there may also be online meetings to plan for actions or provide training.

We are looking for an experienced senior finance leader to chair our Finance and Resources Committee (FRC). As well as principal oversight of all financial matters, you will also overlook the disposition of the investment portfolio and strategic planning for our whole property portfolio.
With multi-million pound annual cash flows from our thousands of volunteers across dozens of divisions nationwide, the role requires a deft and experienced hand as we move through the final stages of our organisational transformation and finalise Strategy 2030.
As well as attending quarterly Board meetings in Cardiff, you would Chair the FRC, which meets online with a similar frequency. Board Members setthe overall direction of the organisation whilst providing insight and constructive challenge.
Volunteering as a Trustee and Committee Chair is a unique opportunity to build your leadership skills and discover new areas of personal development whilst also supporting and setting the strategic direction within a worldwide organisation that traces its roots back a thousand years and has hundreds of thousands of volunteers worldwide.
SJAC has ambitious plans in place and we are seeking trustees to join our board helping, supporting and guiding us on our journey, willing to be strong advocates for the charity and with the ability to steer the charity towards achieving its strategic priorities.
We welcome applications of interest from all for this exciting and prestigious opportunity to join us in governing the charity, but key areas of experience we are looking for from applicants are;
Finance - a fully qualified accountant with senior level experience and strong analytical skills, you will be able to interpret and scrutinise financial reports and advise the board on the financial performance and risk profile of the charity.
We have supported people and communities across Wales since 1880. We existed before the NHS in Wales and provided the earliest medical support to those who were sick or injured.
Since March 2020, weve worked closely with NHS Wales, increasing our capacity and developing new innovative ways of working to assist and relieve the overwhelming pressure on the frontline healthcare. We are first responders and provide services for people who have fallen and those in crisis. We look after hundreds of thousands of people at over 1000 events per year from football crowds to marathon runners and night time revellers.
We continue to play a major role in strengthening community resilience and ensuring people are trained in first aid so they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved with a blend of St John People, both employees and volunteers.
We provide the opportunity for people from all backgrounds to volunteer with us and develop their personal skills and confidence to support our charitable and income generating services whilst assisting their own career development and their community.
Were undergoing an extensive and exciting programme of modernisation preparing for our new 2025-2030 and beyond strategy. This includes a review of our existing services, financial and workforce models and were developing a rejuvenated culture aligned to our core vision and values to improve our overall people experience.
Job responsibilities
In accordance with our governance rules, our current trustee appointments run for a triennium with potential for a further triennium, presenting an exciting opportunity for suitable persons to join us in governing the charity.
Statutory duties of SJAC trustees
- Ensuring the organisation pursues our stated objects (purposes), as defined in our governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
- Ensuring the organisation complies with our governing document (i.e. our trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring the organisation applies resources exclusively in pursuance of our charitable objects(i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in our own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public.
- Safeguarding the good name and values of our organisation.
- Ensuring the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
- Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity's funds.
- Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the Chief Executive.
Commitment
- Preparing for and attending quarterly in person meetings of the Board each year (currently full days during working hours).
- Attending St John Ambulance Cymru' s AGM (which usually precedes the June Board meeting).
- Being a member of, and actively participating in, at least one (usually more) of the Boards Standing Committees Audit, Risk & Governance, People, Financial Resource, Fundraising & Engagement, Digital & Data, Priory Honours & Awards which all meet at least quarterly. This will include a mixture of face-to-face, hybrid and online meetings, and the requisite preparation work and following up of actions outside the meetings.
- Supporting St John Ambulance Cymru events throughout the year, including the annual Investitures.
- Being responsive to emails and being available to offer ad hoc assistance / advice as required.
- In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise
