Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice helps babies, children and young people who are seriously unwell, and their families, make the most of every day. The charity aspires to become a centre of clinical excellence for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
We’ve been on a major upward trajectory in recent years, with more children being supported, more major hospitals being partnered with and more supporters donating. We’ve transformed from being an enthusiastic start-up delivering care in the community, to a serious player delivering major impact both in the community and at our state-of-the-art hospice building, The Ark, opened in 2019.
Philanthropy, which covers Grants, Trusts & Foundations and Major Donor fundraising streams, is pivotal to Noah’s Ark, typically accounting for around 50% of the charity’s voluntary income. This is an area of real expertise for Noah’s Ark, with much scope for further refining. The successful candidate will therefore be instrumental in taking this key income stream forward, add to an exciting portfolio and gain further training and support, working as part of a high-performing and super supportive team, ready for its next development phase.
The Grants, Trusts & Foundations Manager will work closely with and report to the Head of Philanthropy to develop the Trust pipeline, along with instrumental cross-team work on applications and reporting processes for other income streams. Whilst we work towards developing a more diverse funding model and navigate changes to the external Trust environment, sustaining and growing income from Trusts will remain vital.
The post-holder will manage a Philanthropy Officer (Trusts & Major Donors) and, together, they will be instrumental in taking the Trust programme to the next level, establishing lasting relationships with funders, securing new grants, increasing multi-year gifts and improving both quality and volume of applications and reports. They will also support the Philanthropy Officer, and the wider team, to the same end with their respective portfolios.

You will be a highly organised, dedicated and reliable individual ready to play a significant role in income generation. An exceptional and eloquent communicator, excellent at managing your time and a natural relationship builder. You will have a collaborative mindset, and be willing to engage with colleagues across the fundraising team and wider charity to create the greatest outcomes for the children and families we support.
You will have considerable experience fundraising from grant makers and will be able to demonstrate your success with securing high value gifts and building meaningful relationships. You will have confidence in your ability to make an impact through collaborative lateral thinking. You will also support other team members with their applications, as well as acting as a key liaison with our Care team to obtain latest information about service delivery.
If you have ample experience of fundraising from Trusts, have achieved outstanding success in a short period of time or have held a key position within a Trust programme, including securing numerous significant – ideally six-figure – grants, we would love you to apply.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic communications
-
Lead the development, implementation, and management of MAP’s strategic communications and support public engagement initiatives.

Oversee the organisation’s language and messaging frameworks, including the maintenance of the language guide and key messaging documents to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with MAP’s mission and communications objectives.

Develop, implement and manage integrated, cross channel communications plans and strategies.

Bring a prospector’s mindset, spotting openings, anticipating debate moments and positioning MAP ahead of the curve rather than reacting to events.

Support the organisation in contributing to crisis communications planning and responding to mitigate reputational risks.
Media management
-
Lead on the development and delivery of high-impact content to raise MAP’s profile and influence, and to drive public and supporter engagement.

Actively seek out and develop opportunities for MAP to shape public, political and sector debates, including through opinion pieces, broadcast opportunities, podcasts, industry and specialist media, conferences and high-level events.

Manage MAP’s Senior Media and Communications Officer, fostering professional growth, confidence and judgement. Conduct regular one to ones, appraisals, and support their work.

Manage the production, review and sign off of all media materials including press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, media updates, and other external communications content where necessary. Ensure efficient delegation where required.

Lead media engagement, including briefing spokespeople and coordinating MAP’s responses to media inquiries, ensuring delegation where required.

Provide high-quality briefing, messaging development, and media preparation for senior staff engaging externally.

Maintain and build strong, trusted relationships with journalists and editors across UK and international media.

Alert MAP’s staff to imminent news and current affairs stories, and recommend communications actions or restraint as appropriate.
Advocacy and campaigns communications

Develop strategic communications plans for MAP’s advocacy and campaigning initiatives (such as, party conferences, parliamentary and UN engagement), identifying media opportunities, and ensuring key messaging is aligned with advocacy objectives and reaches targeted audiences.

Work closely with MAP’s Advocacy and Campaigns Team to amplify campaign impact through coordinated media and supporter-facing communications.

Strengthen MAP’s role in advocacy coalitions by leading collaborative media and communications outputs with partners.

Help ensure that communities MAP supports have a voice in campaigns, that their perspectives shape messaging and that communications do not expose staff, partners or communities to undue risk.

Advise on the strategic communication opportunities to profile and disseminate policy and research outputs.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience and knowledge

Substantial, relevant and recent experience of communications at a national and/or international level within humanitarian, healthcare or human rights organisations.

Strong track record of developing and implementing communications strategies to achieve advocacy and fundraising objectives.

Experience in overseeing organisational language and messaging frameworks in politically sensitive contexts.

Strong experience in media relations, including briefing spokespeople, drafting press releases, reactive and proactive media handling, and securing media coverage.

Job description
Stella Maris is the official maritime charity of the Catholic Church. We are looking for a Regional Port Chaplain for Immingham and the South Humber Ports to support seafarers, fishers and their families.
In this unique and rewarding role, you'll be the welcoming face of Stella Maris in your region, visiting ships, listening to crew members, and offering practical, pastoral and spiritual support to anyone in need, regardless of faith or background.
About the role
No two days are the same. You might spend the morning visiting ships and listening to crew members' stories, help someone contact their family back home, support a seafarer in crisis, or offer a quiet moment of prayer on deck.
You'll also recruit and support a team of volunteers, work closely with other maritime charities and local partners, and build strong relationships with parishes, dioceses, and port authorities. You'll be part of a nationwide network of Stella Maris chaplains, supported through regular meetings, retreats and professional development opportunities.
Key responsibilities
- Visit ships regularly to meet seafarers and fishers, responding to their pastoral, practical and spiritual needs.
- Provide practical help such as transport, communication access, and emergency or crisis support.
- Offer spiritual care to Catholic seafarers and facilitate the religious needs of those from other faiths.
- Recruit, train and support Stella Maris volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with other maritime charities.
- Maintain strong relationships with local parishes, the Diocese of Nottingham, and port stakeholders such as the Harbour Master, shipping agents and welfare committees.
- Support local fundraising and awareness initiatives alongside the charity's national team.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Implementation (Online & Offline)
• Key operational lead, deputising for the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies, taking responsibility for the planning and delivery of campaigns and activity across channels and supporter journeys.
• Develop and implement activity to attract new supporters through an integrated mix of channels, including social platforms (paid and unpaid), search engine advertising, email marketing, and offline appeals.
• Manage relationships with external partners, including creative, fundraising, and digital marketing agencies, ensuring high-quality delivery and ROI.
• Develop and execute integrated campaigns where ultimate conversion may occur via traditional channels such as telephone or mail, taking a holistic approach to acquire and convert new supporters.
• Analyse metrics and data, reporting on KPIs, budget, and spend. Work to constantly test and optimise campaigns to exceed targets and improve return on investment.
• Support forecasting and budget planning on marketing activities within the IG budget.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies, ensuring our fundraising efforts remain innovative and effective.
Stewardship, Content & Operations
• Develop and deliver personalised relationship-building communications and initiatives that recognise supporter loyalty and deepen their connection to the impact of their support.
• Oversee the operational delivery of supporter communications, including the development of processes for bespoke and workflow-delivered thanking and nurturing.
• Create and optimise content, sometimes cross team and directly with our incredible patients and supporters.
• Build journeys that maximise conversions and build loyalty. This includes high-quality creative fundraising writing, concepting, and messaging development.
• Ensure all supporters are thanked and updated in an appropriate and timely manner, working with the team to ensure coverage and that all interactions are in line with our supporter promise.
• Cultivate deeper engagement with supporters beyond transactional interactions, explore opportunities for meaningful dialogue and a sense of community.
Collaboration & Cross-Selling
• Work with the wider PCR team to maximise opportunities for fundraising and patient impact, specifically leading on cross-selling meaningful cash and support propositions to other audiences (e.g., events participants, community fundraisers, and campaigners).
• Work with Agile principles in mind, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation to plan and deliver high-quality work.
• Build key relationships across teams within and outside Public Fundraising to achieve successful fundraising outcomes.
• As required, represent PCR externally, promoting our work and building long-term relationships with stakeholders.
Database and Compliance
• Develop your existing experience and affinity for supporter data to improve outcomes for supporters.
• Hold a very good working knowledge of key aspects of data protection law including GDPR and PECR, as well as the Fundraising Code of Practice.
• Work with our tools and seek to improve knowledge and use of these, including Access CRM, Fundraise Up, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Wordpress and MailChimp.
Skills and Competencies
Our ideal candidate would have the following:
• Fundraising Expertise: Proven experience in an Individual Giving role(s) with a track record of managing both digital acquisition and offline appeals (direct mail/telemarketing) for a charity or social cause, as well as significant experience in retention, marketing communications, supporter services.
• Agency Management: Experience managing creative, fundraising and digital marketing agencies, to deliver a variety of campaigns or activities across multiple channels.
• Digital Proficiency: Demonstrable expertise setting up and managing campaigns in Meta Business Suite, Google paid advertising, and email marketing platforms like Mailchimp.
• Strategic Thinking: Evidence of leading successful integrated campaigns resulting in significant income or lead generation.
• Audience development: Led development of successful new propositions for cross-selling across existing audiences.
• Creative Skills: The ability to motivate and inspire audiences through content and creative writing and storytelling for various channels.
• Financial Acumen: The ability to monitor and manage income and expenditure against targets as well as forecast and report on campaigns across all channels.
• Supporter Experience: A strong desire to provide excellent supporter experience and customer journeys to everyone who encounters PCR.
• Collaborative Mindset: A collaborative and innovative mindset with a desire to test, learn, and work with stakeholders cross-functionally.
• Agile Working: Experience working within Agile project management frameworks would be beneficial.
