Purpose of the Job 

Nurturing high-value relationships with major donors to maximise support to drive growth in income targets.

Duties & Responsibilities

•  Build relationships with a portfolio of prospective major donors, understanding philanthropic motivations and tailoring opportunities for engagement to inspire major gifts
• Leading the creation of new product ideas to encourage repeat, sustainable, mid-level gifting
• Foster a deep understanding of the charity work and strategy, including the regional network, to enable value adding support of frontline charity visits and tours
• Develop innovative and personalised stewardship plans to deepen donor relationships
• Develop compelling written communications, including emails, proposals, and reports to showcase the impact of donor support
• Work with colleagues across the Fundraising function to maximise cross over opportunities between income areas
• Staying up to date with trends and data form the charity sector to optimise donor experiences and identify new opportunities

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

• Demonstrable experience of working in a fundraising role
• Proven experience in developing strong relationships with donors, securing major gifts, and stewarding donors to become repeat supporters
• Experience of collaborating with senior leadership to leverage connections ad increase support
• Strong financial acumen, with the ability to work with complex budgets and production of associated donor reports
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in writing proposals and presentations, with the ability to engage at all levels with diverse stakeholders

About You

As the Philanthropy Manager, you will be a confident and persuasive communicator, comfortable engaging with supporters and stakeholders at all levels. You will have a solid knowledge of philanthropic giving and a deep appreciation of the value of high-quality donor stewardship. Highly organised and detail-focused, you will enjoy working with data and be skilled at producing compelling content both on and offline. You will bring initiative, creativity and the ability to work independently, while also being a collaborative team player.

The Philanthropy Manager is a new donor-facing role, which will focus on expanding and strengthening a major donor portfolio to increase five and six figure income from individual donors and family trusts for Art UK. You will lead on managing and growing Art UK’s philanthropic giving programme, which includes the Patrons and supporter events programme and our major donor activity. Working within an ambitious team, you will have the support of a freelance Prospect Researcher to identify new prospects, and the Development Manager and CRM Officer to develop donor journeys and relationship management systems. You will report to the Head of Development, work closely with the CEO and Chair of the Philanthropy Board, and collaborate with colleagues across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a robust prospect pipeline through identification, research, cultivation and relationship-building to secure five-figure gifts and long-term support
• Manage a portfolio of mid-level individual donors, converting one-off supporters into deeper donor relationships
• Manage and grow Art UK’s mid-level regular giving programme, strengthening donor relationships through face-to face meetings, events and personalised communication
• Develop donor development strategies, using CRM to analysis and identify higher gift prospects from existing donor pool and maximise giving potential
• Lead on major gifts for annual Big Give campaigns, identifying and securing keystone pledge donors, and leveraging networks to reach giving targets
• Create and implement, effectively and in a timely manner, development plans for each donor to retain and upgrade donors and document all activities in CRM Beacon
• Prepare and personalise correspondence and fundraising materials, including donor stewardship and reports, funding proposals and acknowledgement letters as appropriate
• Work closely with the Marketing team and other colleagues to showcase Art UK’s work and enhance donor engagement
• Organise and deliver events for major donors and prospects (with support from the Development team), including attending events where appropriate
• Support management of the American Friends of Art UK (launching 2026), including donor stewarding and events programming
• Support senior leadership and board members in the preparation and delivery of high-quality donor pitches to secure new philanthropic gifts
• Monitor progress against targets and maintain accurate reporting, including updates to Art UK’s Board of Trustees and the Philanthropy Board
• Ensure pledges and donations are processed efficiently and that donors are thanked promptly and personally
• Work closely with all members of the Development team to ensure prospecting and cultivation activity is aligned and complementary
• Ensure all philanthropic fundraising activity is conducted in line with legal, regulatory and ethical best practice e.g. GDPR and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice helps babies, children and young people who are seriously unwell, and their families, make the most of every day. The charity aspires to become a centre of clinical excellence for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

We’ve been on a major upward trajectory in recent years, with more children being supported, more major hospitals being partnered with and more supporters donating. We’ve transformed from being an enthusiastic start-up delivering care in the community, to a serious player delivering major impact both in the community and at our state-of-the-art hospice building, The Ark, opened in 2019.

Philanthropy, which covers Grants, Trusts & Foundations and Major Donor fundraising streams, is pivotal to Noah’s Ark, typically accounting for around 50% of the charity’s voluntary income. This is an area of real expertise for Noah’s Ark, with much scope for further refining. The successful candidate will therefore be instrumental in taking this key income stream forward, add to an exciting portfolio and gain further training and support, working as part of a high-performing and super supportive team, ready for its next development phase.

The Grants, Trusts & Foundations Manager will work closely with and report to the Head of Philanthropy to develop the Trust pipeline, along with instrumental cross-team work on applications and reporting processes for other income streams. Whilst we work towards developing a more diverse funding model and navigate changes to the external Trust environment, sustaining and growing income from Trusts will remain vital.

The post-holder will manage a Philanthropy Officer (Trusts & Major Donors) and, together, they will be instrumental in taking the Trust programme to the next level, establishing lasting relationships with funders, securing new grants, increasing multi-year gifts and improving both quality and volume of applications and reports. They will also support the Philanthropy Officer, and the wider team, to the same end with their respective portfolios.

You will be a highly organised, dedicated and reliable individual ready to play a significant role in income generation. An exceptional and eloquent communicator, excellent at managing your time and a natural relationship builder. You will have a collaborative mindset, and be willing to engage with colleagues across the fundraising team and wider charity to create the greatest outcomes for the children and families we support.

You will have considerable experience fundraising from grant makers and will be able to demonstrate your success with securing high value gifts and building meaningful relationships. You will have confidence in your ability to make an impact through collaborative lateral thinking. You will also support other team members with their applications, as well as acting as a key liaison with our Care team to obtain latest information about service delivery.

We’re looking for an experienced and creative Head of Individual Giving to lead and grow our individual giving programme.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you’ll shape and deliver our individual giving strategy, overseeing the recruitment, retention and development of individual supporters. You’ll lead on our major appeals, including an annual national campaign to Catholic parishes across the UK.

Leukaemia UK – Our Charity

We are a ‘small but mighty’ charity with one big ambition: to stop leukaemia devastating lives. Over the next 10 years we want to help save and improve the lives of more people with leukaemia through finding and funding life-changing research and campaigning for change.

We are seeking an experienced, driven and passionate Head of Philanthropy to lead on delivering income from our High Value (HV) audiences and income streams. We are looking for someone with energy and ambition, who can demonstrate strategic leadership to maximise fundraising opportunities across Major Giving, Trusts and Foundations, Special Events and Corporate Partnerships. Leukaemia UK and You 

In 2025 we invested in growing our fundraising team so that we could fund more life-changing research, to increase our understanding of leukemia as a disease, and accelerate the development of kinder, more effective treatments. This included investment to grow the Philanthropy fundraising team, develop new fundraising products, increase our supporter networks, and build a stronger pipeline. As a result, we have seen significant year-on-year growth for a charity of our size and are keen to maintain this trajectory with the opportunities in front of us.

We are in the final year of our current 5-year organisational strategy cycle and in the process of developing our new 5-year fundraising strategy, so you will be instrumental in bridging the gap, delivering against agreed income targets for 2026 and driving forward new plans into 2027. 

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, the post holder will at times be required to work both strategically and operationally, autonomously and collaboratively, as a critical member of the Fundraising Leadership Team.  You will be results-driven with an appetite to innovate and drive continuous improvement, leading to increased conversions, deepened relationships, and long-term high value support to upscale our research programme.

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience of being a Head of Philanthropy, demonstrating strategic leadership with a remit that includes oversight of a broad High Value fundraising portfolio, across multiple income streams.
• Experience of applying the principles of Philanthropy fundraising to develop and nurture a growing pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gift opportunities for supporters able to give at the highest levels.
• Experience of managing engaging Major Giving and Trusts & Foundations fundraising programmes to generate a warm pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gifts.
• Experience of overseeing a Special Events programme, comprising both fundraising and cultivation events.
• Experience of overseeing a Corporate partnerships portfolio and representing the charity at a senior level.
• Demonstrable experience of managing a high-performing team, focussing on creating a culture where people thrive as individuals.
• Strong experience of building effective relationships with internal and external partners, senior stakeholders and suppliers, leading on the key relationships for the charity. 
• Strong written and oral communication skills with a real talent for connecting and influencing people at all levels.
• Strong project-management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, creative development, and supplier relationships for fundraising events and campaigns.
• Proven experience of driving effective High Value stewardship programmes to maximise supporter experience.

Knowledge

• Excellent specialist knowledge of the principals and methods underpinning successful Philanthropy fundraising and stakeholder management across Major Giving, Trusts and Corporate partnerships.
• Up-to-date knowledge of current fundraising trends.
• High level knowledge of Salesforce CRM and how best to steward supporters.
• High level knowledge and understanding of charity law in relation to legacy fundraising, GDPR, PECR, data protection and other relevant fundraising regulation.

Role specifics

• Hours: 0.8 FTE are 30 hours per week – days and times to be agreed
• 12 months fixed term contract – maternity cover
• Location: We are very flexible! Whilst our hybrid working policy is a minimum of two days per month in our London office, for this role we would typically expect the role holder to be in the office once a week.

I.  JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Right To Play UK, the Head of Individual Giving will be responsible for leading on community, mid and major donor fundraising and philanthropy for Right To Play UK. The incumbent will deliver a successful strategy for Right To Play UK’s work in this area, leading on developing and coordinating fundraising campaigns, building, and developing our portfolio of major donors, developing a philanthropy pipeline and facilitating bespoke events with the aim of generating substantial income in line with the organisation’s budgetary objectives.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Individual Giving campaigns and strategy (20% time):

• Collaborate on development and implementation of UK individual giving strategy, working closely with the UK leadership team and international colleagues.
• Develop, adapt and coordinate UK fundraising campaigns for mid and major donors, work closely with the Head of Communications and Engagement and UK team.
• Project manage delivery of campaigns by the RTP UK staff team, working across audiences.
• Analyse and report on audience, results and trends and use this to inform future plans.
• Manage the Individual Giving Officer and provide guidance on their development of key projects.

2.Major Giving and Philanthropy (50% time):

• Lead on developing, implementing and reporting on Right To Play’s individual giving strategy in the UK, in alignment with Right To Play’s global strategic plan, in collaboration with the Head of Partnerships and Executive Director.
• Directly manage a range of major donor and philanthropic relationships, as well as oversight of relationship management by colleagues and the Partnerships team.
• Lead on researching, identifying, developing, and supporting new major donor funding opportunities with the aim of generating substantial income from this fundraising source in line with the organization’s budgetary objectives.
• Lead on ongoing communications strategy for our mid and major donor support base, building support and ensuring consistency across a range of constituent groups.

3. Major donor events development  (15%):

• Lead on design and development of bespoke major donor events (e.g. 30 person dinner), working closely with service providers, donors and the RTP UK team.
• Lead on stewardship of events-focused audiences, building a long-term, diversified support base.

4. Contribute and support global and UK team (10%):

• Contribute to global projects and strategies through the global fundraising team.
• Contribute to the development of global strategic initiatives, including developing major donor relationships in other RTP supporter countries.
• Support the work of the wider Right To Play UK team, focussing on shared team goals.

5. Performs other duties as assigned. (5%)

• Undertake any other activities reasonably requested by the Executive Director.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Must have):

(A) EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:

• Undergraduate degree from a relevant university program or equivalent work experience

(B) EXPERIENCE:

• 5-year’s relevant experience including working within a senior fundraising role, working on fundraising strategy and successful campaigns.
• Experience in managing relationships with a range of major donors.
• Experience developing and securing high value relationships and gifts.
• Experience developing/approving reports and proposals for major donors and/or tailoring to a UK audience.
• Experience representing an organisation with senior stakeholders.
• Experience managing a varied workload and balancing conflicting priorities.

(C) COMPETENCIES / PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal sensitively and diplomatically with a variety of people, both internally and externally.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a varied workload.

V. ADDITIONAL JOB RELATED CONDITIONS:

The vast majority of work will take place in London, Right To Play UKNO Office. However, the role may require select travel to other parts of the country or global country programmes, in order to support key initiatives. Occasional evening and weekend activity for donor events and meetings, is expected.

The Philanthropy Manager will develop a philanthropy strategy, building on the partnerships and resources already in place. You will develop a pipeline backed up by robust prospect research (some administrative assistance will be provided), and instigate a cultivation and stewardship programme, typically adopting a staged approach to major asks.

You will be accountable for the acquisition, development, and stewardship of high value supporters for CUF, both individual philanthropists and non-statutory grant-making bodies. You will develop and strengthen relationships with existing donors, as well as identifying warm prospects currently not supporting CUF financially. A key part of your role will be meeting and engaging major donor prospects to grow the pool.

You will engage with Trustees and senior leaders, to identify and nurture Christian philanthropists and grant body decision-makers within their spheres of influence.

You will lead on developing cases for support and writing grant applications, helped by the wider staff team.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with high levels of motivation, and the ability to both develop and operationalise strategy as a member of a small team. You will have a track record of successfully initiating, managing and developing relationships with High-Net-Worth individuals and grantmaking bodies, and securing donations and grants, via proposals or through face-to-face meetings, as required.
