Role: Trustee – Fundraising Specialist
We are looking for a new Trustee with significant fundraising experience to help us grow and diversify our income and contribute to our overall strategic direction.

Jabalie is a UK registered charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence. Our vision is a world in which people of all genders are economically empowered, free from violence and abuse, and lead full lives with freedom and autonomy.
We are currently developing an education and empowerment programme for survivors of gender-based violence, to be delivered in the UK and Kenya.
Our name is derived from the word “Jabali” meaning “strong as a rock” in Swahili, symbolising the strength of all those we work with.
Role description
The Board of Trustees plays a vital role in making sure that Jabalie achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Jabalie has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
As a small and newly registered charity, our Trustees have an active role in the organisation relating to their area of expertise, beyond the Board meetings.
General Trustee Duties
The duties of a Trustee include:
- Attending and contributing at quarterly Trustee Board meetings.
- Ensuring that Jabalie pursues its stated objectives (purposes) defined in its Constitution, including helping to develop a long-term strategy to achieve them.
- Ensuring that Jabalie complies with its governing rules laid out in its Constitution.
- Ensuring that Jabalie complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring the financial stability of Jabalie.
Philanthropy and Development
In addition to the general duties of a Trustee, duties of the Philanthropy and Development Trustee include the following:
- Developing and overseeing fundraising strategy with action plans, ensuring they align with Jabalie’s strategic goals and financial needs.
- Cultivating relationships with donors, funders, and key stakeholders to secure financial support and long-term commitments.
- Identifying opportunities to collaborate with businesses, foundations, and institutions for sponsorships, grants, and major gifts.
- Managing and maintaining data and information on potential opportunities and relationships for generating funds in a systematic way, such as using a CRM system.
- Working with the Marketing and Communications Trustee in developing initiatives and campaigns for fundraising and generating donations.
- Managing the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives, events and campaigns to engage the community and attract new supporters.
- Working with the Strategy and Impact Analysis Trustee in establishing and overseeing impact evaluation and performance metrics in alignment of funders’ requirements.
- Evaluating the level of success of the fundraising and donor engagement efforts, and providing feedback and data analysis that could shape future initiatives, events and campaigns.
- Ensuring fundraising efforts comply with relevant regulations and ethical standards, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Acting as an ambassador for Jabalie, championing its mission and fostering philanthropic support through networking and public speaking (as required).

Fathercraft
We want to change the perceptions of male caring and fatherhood and support more partners to get involved because it creates value for everyone.
Supporting men to be equal and active parents from the start is key for gender equality. Research from Sweden suggests that every additional month of paternity leave taken by fathers increases the mother’s lifetime earnings by 6.7% (Johansson, 2010).
80% of the gender pay gap is attributed to the motherhood penalty (World Economic Forum, 2022)
The gender pay gap more than doubles for women over 40 (ONS, 2022)
Yet despite increasing willingness and interest in taking an active parenting role, in 2022, dads spent, on average, just 55 minutes per day with their children (ONS, 2023).
This is largely due to the fact that one in three working dads don’t feel comfortable talking to their employer about family commitments and/or are not adequately supported to be the best dads and partners they can be.
We have developed an affordable, comprehensive online platform called "Father's Ed" that provides guidance, support, wellbeing services and a community for new or expectant fathers. This includes peer support between dads, science-based online, digital well-being courses covering a range of strange and anxiety triggers, e. g. financial well-being, loneliness, insomnia, etc.). We are also working on providing mental health services for new fathers through partnerships.

Community researchers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park ensure our community-owned park is inclusive and welcoming for all.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
We are looking for community researchers specialised to contribute to our community-led working circle who are working on on a listening project to ensure often underrepresented voices in conservation and environmental projects are heard and centred.

Role Summary

Endometriosis UK is the largest UK charity for those with endometriosis. Endometriosis UK works to:

Time commitment:

We are currently recruiting for ONE NEW TRUSTEE to join the board. We are particularly looking for significant experience of charity governance, management and best practice. Examples of how this might have been gained include having worked at a senior level in a charity, or previous trustee experience.

Personal experience of living with, or having a close family member with, endometriosis, is vital on our Board. Meetings
The Board aims to hold around four Board Meetings per year (generally 1.5 hours per meeting, although subject to change, as necessary). Meetings are usually held virtually, although we now aim to hold one in-person meeting per year, and it is expected that Board Members read the necessary board materials prior to each meeting.
Board positions carry no remuneration but travel and other out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. The Role of the Board
In line with ProVeg International's Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles, the ProVeg C.I.C. Board is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of ProVeg in the UK, and monitoring delivery by the Director and their staff. The Board members of ProVeg C.I.C play a critical role in acting as a check and balance for the organisation, giving strategic direction, and acting as a sounding board for strategy and priorities as required. Board members can typically help an organisation with their skills and experience, their networks and/or by other means. The Board member will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team of ProVeg C.I.C. and work closely and harmoniously alongside the International Board to support joined up and unified global strategic delivery of objectives.
Duties
Board members are bound by a combination of statutory duties and organisational duties:

Ensure that ProVeg C.I.C. complies with its governing document, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations

Board members agree to contribute the necessary time to effectively govern ProVeg C.I.C. in the UK. (The total commitment tends to be around 4h per quarter, but is subject to change in line with necessary duties)

Ensure that ProVeg C.I.C. pursues its objects as defined in its governing document

Ensure ProVeg C.I.C. uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: ProVeg C.I.C must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are

Contribute actively to the Board in giving firm strategic direction to ProVeg C.I.C, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets

Safeguard the good name and values of ProVeg C.I.C.

Manage conflicts of interests

Ensure the effective and efficient administration of ProVeg C.I.C.

Ensure the financial stability of ProVeg C.I.C.

Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds

Monitor the performance of the Director, UK (and if required, appoint the role)
Board Member Person Specification
Essential:

Educated to degree level or equivalent with relevant business, Community Interest Company, or Charity experience
-
Commitment to and willingness to work in accordance with ProVeg International’s principles and values
-
Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to effectively fulfil the role of Director

An ability to have strategic vision in line with available market factors and resource

A history of proven good, independent judgement

Ability to think creatively

Willingness to speak their mind professionally and respectfully

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels, such as Board, Senior Leadership Team, Staff and Volunteers

Knowledge of good governance practice

Solid understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Directors.

Willingness to adhere to ProVeg International’s Director’s Code of Conduct

Do you have fundraising, communications, HR, IT or other skills and wish to become a trustee of a pioneering and ambitious charity which funds and develops girls’ education in South Sudan? Friends of Ibba Girls School (FIGS) works to support a girls’ boarding school which provides free high-quality education for over 300 primary and secondary school girls, providing both education and a source of inspiration for the country. Boarding provides safety and security for girls in a country emerging from war. FIGS works closely with Windle Trust International, a highly experienced UK charity which provides the practical support on the ground in South Sudan. FIGS must raise £400-500k each year to keep the school thriving, while longer-term plans are put in place for greater self-sufficiency within the country. The trustees are both strategic and operational, as the charity only has 2 employees (1.5 FTE). Fundraising skills and experience are particularly sought and the trustee will need to be prepared to give about eight hours a week to the work. Communications is also important and needs about four hours a week. HR and IT are both valuable skills but do not have particular time requirements.
