Helping volunteer volunteer roles

Be part of something special and volunteer at MS Walk Glasgow. Join an incredible team of volunteers who will be helping to make MS Walk 2025 bigger and better than ever.

The 2025 event will have around 350 participants who will be walking through Glasgow on either the 1km, 5km,10km or 20km route.

Together these participants will be hoping to raise over £40,000 for the MS Society to help support the MS Community.

There are various roles available on the day from making some noise and encouraging our walkers, to looking after the route and handing out medals at the finish.

Join our team of MS Walk volunteers and support everyone who is walking, rolling and strolling to stop MS.

You'll be required on Saturday 13th September 2025 for one day and there are various times throughout the day. Shifts will be from 2-5 hours depending on role and location.

There are no specific skills required just enthusiasm and a can-do attitude.’

This collections volunteer role involves managing all static collection tins within your local area including identifying opportunities to place a collection tin, emptying the tin and banking the money.

There is no minimum time commitment, but the role requires a level of regular commitment to ensure that tasks are completed.

Canine Partners is a registered charity that transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with assistance dogs. Our amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering support, security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks.

We are looking for friendly drivers to join us!  

You will meet some amazing people, whilst making a positive impact to their lives by helping them get to the activities they enjoy and appointments that are important.  
 
We are looking for drivers who will be happy to drive our house vehicles.  

  
Activities will include:  

• Driving the people we support between their homes and services in a safe manner, in accordance with UK law.  

• Driving around the Yeovil area, which will be the start and end point of the majority of journeys  

• Assisting people we support in and out of vehicles and locations – with assistance from trained Discovery staff.  

• Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the people we support.  

• Driving vehicles owned by the people we support

Activities will NOT include: Personal care, medication or financial assistance.   

We are looking for drivers who:  

• Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience  

• Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent)  

• Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to journeys  

• Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff  

• Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (times and days can be discussed)  

A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.   

What you’ll gain from being a Discovery volunteer:  

Discovery supports people with learning disabilities and autism, helping them to live more independently at home and in the community.

What is the purpose of this role?

To provide administration support for the Men in Sheds service

What impact does this role have?

Administration assistance to the Men in Sheds Team will ensure the continued effective and efficient running of this service

What activities might you be involved in?

1. Data entry onto the Charity’s electronic database system

2. Typing standard letters 

3. Shredding confidential documents

4. Photocopying and printing leaflets, fact sheets, forms, as and when required

5. Helping with large mail outs and preparing for events

6. Sharing Shed news on our Facebook page

7. Filing documents using relevant systems

8. Recording the shed income from subscriptions and sales

9. Answering phone calls and taking messages at shed.

10. Any other tasks as and when required, as agreed between the Men in Sheds Volunteers and Coordinator

11. Monitoring the Men in Sheds email account

12. Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct

What are we looking for?

• A genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people
• Good standard of literacy and numeracy
• An honest and reliable person with a friendly personality
• Ability to follow instructions
• Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
• IT & internet skills (further training can be provided)

When would you be needed to volunteer?

This role requires administration support for one day a week (days can be flexible).

We are looking for one administration volunteer at the following location:

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough departmental induction to the Men in Sheds.
