Independent Mental Capacity Advocate

Home Based – Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland

Job Reference: 76

Contract Type: Fixed term for 12 months

Part-time – 29.6 hours, 4 days per week, days of work to be confirmed at interview

Salary – £18,000 - £20,498.00 (Full time equivalent £22,500 - £25,623.00) per annum dependent on experience and training, + Benefits

POhWER is a registered charity that provides a range of services across England.

POhWER has an exciting opportunity in our East Midlands team for a part time Independent Mental Capacity Advocate to work across our Leicestershire Leicester City and Rutland contracts.  The role will be home based although you will be expected to work across the respective service areas.

You will be supporting a wide range of vulnerable adults often with profound and multiple needs, so you will have experience of this type of work, along with a good working knowledge of public and voluntary organisations.

Ideally, you will have an good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including the Deprivation of Liberty safeguards; strong experience working with vulnerable adults who are affected by significant health and social care issues and unable to speak up for themselves; and experience providing persuasive verbal and written representations.

You will be a confident positive team player, able to work professionally with clients and other professionals, gaining an understanding of issues by listening, exploring options and representing clients’ views, wishes and beliefs. Our ideal candidate will have worked in either advocacy, information and advice or similar role before, or will otherwise have a background in health or social care and experience working with vulnerable adults.

You will be a confident positive team player whilst able to work well independently and confidently on behalf of others. Strong written and communication skills and time management skills will be required and you will need to be computer literate. As this will be a busy role, working across the service area, candidates must be within reasonable commutable distance to the contract areas have a full driver’s licence and access to their own transport.  Travel expenses will only be paid once in the Leicestershire area.
