Fife Shopmobility is a local, user-focused charity providing free and low-cost mobility equipment loans — such as powered scooters, wheelchairs, and walking aids — from key town centre locations across Fife, including Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, and Glenrothes.
Every year, they help hundreds of people with disabilities, long-term health conditions, and temporary injuries to get out and about, shop independently, attend appointments, and stay connected with their community.
Their service isn’t just about transport — it’s about freedom, confidence, and equality. They also advocate for accessible public spaces and inclusive design, working in partnership with local authorities, shopping centres, and community groups to improve accessibility across the region.
What You’ll Do as a Trustee
As a Trustee, you will be part of a small, supportive Board responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. Working closely with the staff team, you’ll help ensure Fife Shopmobility remains sustainable, impactful, and responsive to the needs of our users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Shaping and supporting the strategic direction of the organisation
- Overseeing governance, risk, and regulatory compliance (including OSCR obligations)
- Championing accessibility and inclusion across Fife
- Advocating for the charity in the wider community and supporting fundraising initiatives
- Supporting our dedicated staff and volunteers in achieving their goals
The Board meets around four times per year, with occasional involvement in subgroups or specific projects between meetings.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Board of Trustees.

e) Bring a particular skill, experience or insight that helps develop Asylum Welcome as an organisation.

Person Specification
Prospective Trustees will:
a) Be committed to the rights and welfare of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants and to Asylum Welcome’s vision, mission and values and determined to use your skills and experience to make a difference for others.
b) Have experience of developing good relationships with people and organisations, stakeholders and supporters.
c) Be able to work in a team, recognising and respecting the difference between the Trustees’ role and that of staff or volunteers.
d) Be able to contribute to and ensure Asylum Welcome’s future plans and strategic development and/or financial stability.
The prospective Treasurer will have:
a) A recognised accounting qualification.
b) Significant experience of financial management, budgeting and reporting.
c) An understanding of the financial, strategic and operational risks and their mitigation in a charity context.
d) Be familiar with charity accounting and statutory reporting requirements.
As Chair of the Finance Committee, the Treasurer leads on all financial matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for making budget recommendations and financial reports for the Board and for agreeing and overseeing financial and related policies. They liaise closely with the Finance Manager to provide quarterly financial reports, the annual budget and annual
statutory accounts to the Board. Input is also required during the annual audit process.
The Board
Asylum Welcome is governed by a Board of between 5 and 13 (currently 11) Trustees, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September. Trustees normally serve for at least 3 years. Additional Trustees may be co-opted between AGMs.
Trustees are not paid but travel expenses may be claimed for attending meetings.
The Board meets (via Zoom and in person) 5 - 6 times a year, usually early evening on a Thursday. Regular dates are agreed a year in advance.
Individual Trustees also join or lead the Board’s Committees. There are currently a Finance Committee (which meets 5 times a year, a week or so ahead of Board meetings) and a People and Governance Committee. We also have occasional task groups for short-term items.
We support asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants to settle and thrive in the U.K.

The role and what we are looking for in a new Treasurer
Our Treasurer works closely with the Chair and other trustees, our Administration and Clinical Managers, and leads liaison with the External Examiner for our annual accounts. Although all trustees are equally responsible for our finances, our Treasurer maintains the overview and leads the Board in our discussions of financial matters.
Our Board includes people with understanding of our counselling services, and we require all new trustees to have strong empathy with our cause and our delivery.
Your experience of managing finances or bookkeeping is important. We’d welcome a financial qualification, but that’s not a prerequisite, as our finances aren’t complex. An understanding of how charity finance works would be beneficial, and the ability to clearly communicate our financial information to other trustees is very important. Support from our Administration Manager is always available, as they deal with day-to-day matters.
We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles alongside our values to govern our organisation. We are looking for fresh expertise and experience from a variety of backgrounds to our charity. We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible, they play an essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day.
As a trustee of a branch you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals. We are looking for people from all social and cultural backgrounds, with a variety of experience and skills to draw on, whether these have been formed through life or work situations.
You'll be passionate about animal welfare and alongside other trustees, will manage the affairs of a local RSPCA Branch to promote and provide animal welfare within the branch area.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary dependent on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties such as the role of chairman, treasurer or secretary.
Trustees are elected for a 12 month term each year.

What you will be doing
- Familiarising yourself with and supporting the aims and policies of the RSPCA
- Familiarising yourself with the branch rules and following them at all times
- Working with your fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly acting in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- Ensuring the branch meets all the minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS). Where they are not met, working with national RSPCA staff to meet them as soon as practicably possible
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Support Specialist (BSS), writing, adopting, monitoring and reviewing a branch development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch
- Actively participating in branch committee meetings and attending the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
- Having an awareness of the outcomes of regional board meetings and supporting regional initiatives.
- Actively promoting and advertising to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers.
- Welcoming new trustees and volunteers to the branch.
The skills you need
- Aged 18 or over
- A current member of the RSPCA (please see RSPCA website for details on how to become a member)
- Able to work with people from all backgrounds and have good interpersonal skills
- Specific skills such as finance, legal, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however they are not essential.
- Commitment, common sense and the ability to be objective is vital
- Creativity, innovation. A person who can bring different experiences and fresh perspectives to the Board and help put those ideas into action

Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and that they accept the post.
Tetanus is a life threatening bacterial disease caused by an infection in an open wound. All volunteers must be suitably protected. We recommend that volunteers check their vaccination history with their GP. If a volunteer has not had the required doses, the GP should offer them free of charge as part of the UK vaccination schedule.

Mid and North East Essex Mind works in partnership with other local Minds, NHS and local health services, as well as key community organisations and service providers, to reduce health inequalities by enhancing the offering for people impacted by mental health and suicide.

Our Board of Trustees
A strong Board of Trustees oversees the work of the organisation, setting the strategic direction and ensuring good governance and practice is embedded in everything we do and in an ever-evolving world, we are always looking to strengthen the skill set of the Board.
Trusteeship offers both personal and professional benefits and as a trustee of Mid and North East Essex Mind you will be contributing to the growth and development of a local charity committed to meeting the need for mental healthcare services in our area. Working at a strategic level you will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your skills and experience and build professional networks within the voluntary sector.
The duties of a trustee are as follows:
- Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy
- Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (ie its trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (ie the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public
- Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets
- Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place
- Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation
- Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds
- Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the chief executive (if the charity employs staff)
In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions.
This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Our governance volunteers (school governors) have direct impact in the community through:
- decision making in the best interests of pupils to improve their education, wellbeing and future prospects and raise community aspirations
- shaping school policies and aims, allowing teachers to focus on delivering high-quality educational experiences
- stakeholder engagement to ensure that the voices of staff, parents, pupils and other stakeholders are heard
Most LGC members have a four-year term of office, except for co-opted members who are appointed for one year. They attend around four meetings each year, which are usually held late afternoon/early evening during term-time. LGC members are also involved in scrutiny activities in school, which usually happen once or twice a term during the school day. LGC members also participate in decision-making panels (for admissions and exclusions) for schools in the Trust. The average time commitment for our LGC members is 8-12 hours per month.
NEAT takes safeguarding seriously, and all governance volunteers are required to undertake a vetting process (including DBS check) during appointment to best safeguard our pupils and schools.

About South Hill Park
Set up in 1973, South Hill Park Trust manages two theatres, a dance studio, creative spaces and a cinema within the grounds of an 18th century mansion house in Bracknell, Berkshire, with a long history, now as a prominent centre for arts within the South East.
South Hill Park hosts over 300 artistic, musical and theatrical events a year, featuring a range of personalities from internationally renowned to emerging new talents. SHP offer a busy programme of over 250 courses, workshops and events, and attracts an average of 250,000 visitors a year to the park.
The charity is independently governed by a Board of trustees and has an income of more than £2m p.a
The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience in the arts and in our community, and we’d expect new trustees to have strong empathy with our cause and what we offer as our services and facilities.
You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as support from local charity-support organisations is always available. Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee including access to external training, as needed.
We are looking to add a range of skills from several trustees we hope to appoint to our Board, although we don’t expect any one trustee to have all of these abilities, experience and understanding:
- Finance
- Fundraising
- Marketing, PR, social media
- Legal, regulatory, compliance
- Customer experience
- People development, people management
If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees; you’ll also need to be able to work collectively with other Board members. Support from our paid employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day running of the organisation.
We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.
The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.
We ask for about four hours of your time per month, which includes six Board meetings per year, trustee discussions, etc. You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.
Location & time commitment
Our Board meets every two months, on a weekday evening at 6pm (days/dates agreed in advance), for up to three hours, at South Hill Park mansion, RG12 7PA.
Our trustees are our Ambassadors, are expected to also meet with stakeholders, our staff and to join appropriate sub-committees as needed.
You are asked to dedicate a minimum of four hours per month to the role, preferably more; including preparation for and attendance at Board and other meetings; some of your duties may be carried out online and by phone/video, as well as face-to-face.
It would be expected that during your first few months as a trustee, the time needed for your familiarisation, induction and training my exceed those suggested hours, and at other times of year, such as our AGM, or in representation at events, etc., more time may be asked of you.
All trustees are expected to have contact with and meet people who use the services and facilities at SHP.
Trustees’ Term of Office is four years, with an option to be elected for an additional Term.
The focus of this role is strategic and you will not be managing the organisation on a day-to-day basis; however, regular contact and liaison with the CEO is expected.
