With almost 700 members, AdviceUK is the biggest network of advice services in the UK. Since 1979, we have been supporting advice providers with training, information, and advocacy to help them create greater social impact. In 2024 alone, our members helped 2.8 million people with issues including debt, housing, employment, immigration and asylum, welfare benefits, and consumer rights.

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, we are constantly exploring new and innovative ways to strengthen the advice sector. Our vision? A society wherein every individual, regardless of means, is able to access the advice they need to exercise their rights and deal with any legal and social welfare problems they may face.

So what does the HR Trustee role at AdviceUK look like?

Are you looking for a voluntary role that is rewarding and offers you the chance to provide leadership with your human resources expertise? 

The Board is responsible for our strategic direction and governance, ensuring we achieve our charitable objects and are well run. Day-to-day management of the organisation is delegated to the Chief Executive and staff, while the Board focuses on general direction and oversight. 

We are currently looking for an experienced HR professional to join our Board as a Trustee. The HR Trustee plays a key role in providing strategic oversight of our people strategy and ensure effective people management and support.

The role can fit around existing commitments, both professional and personal. Previous trustee experience isn’t required, and you will be supported into the role through an onboarding and induction process.

The Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust (the Trust) is looking to appoint a new Chair to join its high-performing Board of Trustees.

The new Chair will be an individual of standing, with a background that complements the activity of the Trust. The Chair must have a deeply held appreciation of the importance of The Historic Dockyard Chatham, its historical significance and the critical role it plays in inspiring audiences young and old, local, national and international.

The Trust is looking for a strategic leader to chair our vibrant Board and to act as a powerful advocate for our work.

As Chair, you will provide an inclusive approach to the governance of the charity and help us to advance our charitable purpose, truly delivering our twin charitable objectives of Preservation and Learning. You will optimise the relationship between the Board and staff and, as a Board, ensure we are focused on fulfilling our strategic role.

It is essential that the Chair has experience of excellent governance, strategic leadership, sound business credentials and ideally either a Naval background or keen interest in at least one area of the cultural, heritage or education sectors. A natural ambassador, you will promote and represent our interests externally, acting as a spokesperson where appropriate.

Our current Chair, Admiral Sir Trevor Soar, following a highly successful tenure as Chairman since 2016, will be stepping down as a Trustee in November 2026 after completing the maximum of three terms at the Trust.

The current trustee group is highly skilled, dedicated and committed to the work of the Trust. Having established a new ten-year strategy, you will be tasked to support the CEO in ensuring its delivery.

Radcliffe Housing Society is a small, registered provider based in Sevenoaks, Kent, with properties across the Southeast. We are more than just a financially strong Housing provider, we are making an impact on the housing crisis, supporting sustainable communities, and providing life-long homes for our customers.

Our Chair is due to stand down in July 2026 and we are therefore seeking a new Chair of the Board to help us shape the future. This is an opportunity to lead an organisation with a clear social purpose, working alongside a committed Board and Executive to make sure the voice of our tenant’s guides everything we do.

In a new Chair, we are seeking someone who understands the current expectations placed upon the sector.   A Chair who can help us deliver on our ambitions and strengthen our role as a trusted partner across South London, Kent and Sussex.

Given the nature of the role, we are keen to attract candidates who have a proven track record in a Non-Executive (NED) role and can drive the delivery of our strategic objectives whilst working collaboratively to ensure our business runs effectively and that our residents continue to receive good quality services.

Could you make a significant contribution to an important and hard-working body in the Methodist Church?

We are seeking new members to join our Audit & Risk Assurance Committee, which plays a vital role in supporting good governance within the Church. The Committee reports to the Connexional Council, which is the trustee body of the MCB.

About You

We are keen to recruit a member with operational experience of the church – this could be a minister or a lay person with significant experience of the day to day workings at church, circuit or district level. We are also looking for a member who has IT experience and can assist the committee with issues relating to AI, Cyber Security and Digital.

Working collaboratively with other members of the committee, you will bring your professional skills and experience to bear across the committee’s responsibilities. Not only will you have an understanding of the Church, you will also bring a ‘critical friend’ mindset to scrutinising the accounts and governance framework of the Connexional Council. As the Church continues to develop its mission, maintaining effective governance is a vital task.

Expressions of interest are invited from lay and ordained members of the MCB to complement the skills and background of other members of the Committee.
