Forces Employment Charity is seeking a dedicated Veterans Support Advisor to join our support team in Birmingham.
Role: As a Veterans Support Advisor, you will be the first point of contact to all clients, meticulous to detail and conscientious. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong customer focus, excellent telephone manners and be capable of working within a large team and on their own initiative.
The role reports to the Veterans Support Team Leader. This position is permanent Full-time, 35 hours per week, with a salary of £22,000. The successful candidate will be based at Birmingham Office / Hybrid with 50% Office-50% WFH once the security clearance is received, and training is complete.
Principal Responsibilities:
· Communicate with clients on all channels including social media groups, webchat, e-mail, and telephone. Link to Salesforce and Adapt CRMs as required.
· Make first contact with clients registering with The Forces Employment Charity and TechVets
· Provide Advice and Guidance on registration.
· Support Veterans to obtain Proof of Service using Veterans UK Check Service.
· Support the TechVets Programme delivery to ensure relevant members are engaged at the first opportunity.
· Provide Advice and Guidance on the use of all available online tools.
· Capture the employment outcomes of all clients and for TechVets members gaining careers through TechVets support.
· Record all interactions with clients accurately on the Salesforce CRM where appropriate.

The role
Cruse Bereavement Support is a charity providing bereavement information and support to grieving people across the UK. We are looking for an organised and motivated Marketing and Communications Officer to join our small marcomms team and help increase the reach and engagement of our digital marketing and communications channels.
You will be responsible for helping us reach more bereaved people, volunteers and supporters with our content and digital products. AFH is an NGO that provides aid and assistance to people affected by natural and man-made disasters. Our vision is a world of crises-resilient communities. Our mission is to mobilise and respond to emergencies and critical needs through humanitarian, development and peace-building action, helping affected communities survive, recover and build a better future.
AFH has taken a leadership role on advocacy for the ongoing conflict in Gaza and has a long history of being a thought leader on the humanitarian crisis in Syria. In order to help achieve this goal, AFH is recruiting an Advocacy & Policy Manager, where the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Communications, manage and strengthen AFH’s advocacy campaigns, and develop and build networks to support our advocacy efforts. The Advocacy & Policy Manager will also be the focal point between the organisation and policymakers, in the UK and beyond.
The Advocacy & Policy Manager will advocate the humanitarian needs stemming from the crises in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and other contexts in which the organisation works. They will convey the voice from the ground, to various external audiences, and will build a presence there to promote the organisation’s work, which is rapidly evolving and is entering newer phases.
Your accountabilities as our Advocacy & Policy Manager will include the following:
Building external relations
- Lead on creating and executing an Advocacy strategy and relationship-building plan to ensure AFH is well connected and respected amongst key stakeholders including politicians, policy makers, governing bodies, other NGOs, etc. Regularly seek new opportunities to enhance external relations.
- Represent AFH in advocacy meetings, humanitarian coordination and other forums, conferences, events, and working groups, leading as many as possible.
- Build and maintain AFH’s relationships with influential people and authorities, including politicians and Governing bodies. Facilitate supporting regular and meaningful engagement with them.
- Build and maintain relationships with regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.
- Position AFH as influential in public debates on Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other countries where AFH works, making AFH a resource for journalists and other key stakeholders covering related issues.
- Keep abreast of regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.
Supporting internal stakeholders
- Guide and advise AFH’s head and field offices on advocacy issues and trends.
- Support our field offices with Advocacy capacity building and enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding.
- Support the head office with enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding, through targeted external stakeholder engagement and improving the technical branding of Action For Humanity in the eyes of potential partner institutions.
- Identify advocacy opportunities by working with the wider Communications and Marketing departments in the writing, editing, commissioning and disseminating of press-releases, op-eds, statements etc., to secure coverage of the organisation’s work across the media spectrum.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to create interesting and engaging multimedia content to ensure the organisation’s marketing and brand strategies incorporates our advocacy position.
- Provide analysis to the CEO, Director of Communications and other stakeholders, including inputs and talking points for meetings, as required.

- Closely monitor the evolving humanitarian and political context in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, particularly where AFH currently operates, and disseminate written and verbal updates and analysis in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders.

Education

Experience

World Jewish Relief created the Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) for refugees in 2016 and today we are the largest provider of specialist employment support to refugees in the UK.
STEP provides a bespoke employment programme that addresses the complex barriers that refugees face when preparing for, and ultimately finding work in the UK. We now have an exciting opportunity for Employment Advisors to join the STEP team, working remotely from home, providing employment support to refugee clients across the UK.
You will prepare clients for competitive employment and help them to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives. You will work to a variety of performance targets based on the progression outcomes of clients such as successful completion of training courses, voluntary and work placements and achieving sustaining paid employment.
This is a fixed term contract to March 2025.
About you
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Experience in successfully supporting refugees into sustainable employment
- Understanding the issues and challenges faced by unemployed people to finding work, including those whose first language is not English
- Experience of providing advice and guidance and supervising a caseload of clients
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong IT skills (CRM database, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to work remotely with confidence
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with clients with varying levels of English
- Competency in speaking another language is desirable e.g. Amharic, Arabic, Dari/Pashto, Dinka Farsi, Kurdish, Ormo, Somali, Tigrinya, Turkish

The role will involve ensuring that stock is displayed well and is sorted correctly, ensuring the shop and stockroom is always kept clean and tidy. You will actively encourage donations and saleable goods, and ensure stock is prepared for display/selling, ensuring all goods are appropriately sized and priced.
You will lead a team, developing and training of staff and volunteers, and be responsible for ensuring that appropriate rotas are in place to ensure the efficient running and income maximisation of the shop.
