Job description

GFS seeks an experienced and passionate youth worker to develop and deliver a programme of activities that will help girls and young women examine the pressure they face to look and act in certain ways.

Earlier this year, we worked with girls and young women in the North East to understand their problems, worries and concerns. We learnt a lot about girls’ major concerns, but it really stood out that some of the girls said they don’t feel good about themselves, and couldn’t think of a single thing they love about themselves. This Youth Project Worker role is the first step of our plan to change that.

We worked with the girls and young women to come up with an idea for a campaigning project that addresses pressure on girls and young women to look and act in certain ways and to help them feel more comfortable in themselves and in their bodies.

The Youth Project Worker will be responsible for organising workshops and group sessions that help girls in the Tyne and Wear and County Durham areas, explore these issues and develop skills and knowledge to understand and design their own campaign to effect change. It is our hope that the programme you devise will empower girls and young women to realise that they really can make a difference.

If you are a committed professional with substantial knowledge of the issues facing girls and young women this could be the role for you. You must be able to facilitate the engagement of girls and young women in designing the programme content and to build capacity in volunteers who will carry on your work at the end of this post.

This is an exciting and hugely fulfilling opportunity for someone with passion for challenging gender inequality and providing inspiring opportunities for girls and young women. If you're interested, please read the full job description attached and apply today!

Please note that due to the nature of the post we can only accept female applicants, under the Equality Act 2010.
