The structure of the team is set up to support the ongoing progression and growth of its members along the key verticals of Press, Website, Design and Outbound. We are looking for someone to support our Outbound communications (video production and development, supporter engagement, and design), as well as offering support across the verticals. The incoming Communications Officer should feel confident with engaging and supporting people to appear on video.
The successful applicant will have experience of these functions and will need to be a quick learner. They will have a can-do attitude with solid technical know-how and be reliable. Attention to detail is critical, alongside flexibility to evolving demands.
A confident communicator, they will be a self-starter with excellent prioritisation and time management and enjoy working in a highly collaborative setting. They will have the opportunity to deliver communications plans and strategies in line with our overall organisational aim of protecting the right to pursue a nomadic way of life.
Due to the nature of the role, the successful applicant will need to be based in our Brighton office, and we’re able to accommodate a degree of flexible working subject to successful completion of a three-month probation period.
Key responsibilities and duties
The role will be diverse and varied. No two days nor two emails are the same! Key responsibilities will include:
· Engaging audiences through compelling content across communications channels, including our website, video, social media.
· Researching, writing and supplying communications materials in response to briefs from the department Head.
· Working with project Leads to promote outcomes, findings and impact across our various channels.
· Supporting Gypsy, Roma or Traveller people to cut through digital noise, via public-focused opportunities such as guest blogs or video.
· Working to maximise the impact of our communications strategies, and operational plans.
· Maintaining and updating digital content from evergreen pages to news items, as and when appropriate.
· Developing and producing short-form video content, along with other Adobe-based outputs.
· Other such duties as are reasonably appropriate to the job.

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities experience some of the starkest inequalities of any groups in the UK. In this role, you will be working as part of the Policy and Public Affairs Team, to tackle the root causes of inequalities faced by Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.
As Policy and Research Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening our policy, research and public affairs work across our priority areas: accommodation, tackling hate, financial and economic inclusion, health, and education.
The postholder will support work to influence decision-makers, amplify the voices of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, and advocate for fairer laws and policies.
The role involves undertaking research, producing evidence-based briefings, supporting parliamentary engagement, and working with partners to promote equality and human rights.

Key Responsibilities
Policy and Research
- Undertake research, analyse data, and produce high-quality briefings and reports.
- Monitor and respond to government consultations and emerging policy issues.
- Contribute to reports and other external submissions, such as human rights treaty monitoring and select committees.
Parliamentary and Public Affairs
- Support the organisation’s role as Secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Gypsies, Travellers and Roma, including liaising with parliamentarians, drafting parliamentary questions and correspondence, and organising events.

Role Overview:

We are working in partnership with Dravet Syndrome UK (DSUK) a small independent UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Dravet Syndrome. The charity was founded in October 2008 by a small group of 30 families. Today, DSUK is a registered charity helping nearly 600 families with support, education, and research services, underpinned by a world-class Medical Advisory Board.
They are now seeking a Head of Family Services, a newly created senior role to enable DSUK to drive forward with the implementation of their five-year strategic plan, including supporting and empowering families to access the support to which they are entitled in living with a complex and life limiting condition.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation and help guide the next stage of their development, enabling them to make a positive difference in the lives of more people affected by Dravet Syndrome in the UK.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Demonstrable ability to interpret and use current legislation and guidance to protect and/or advance people's rights and entitlements
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the confidence and ability to engage effectively with families, healthcare professionals, social workers and other stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively in written and verbal formats.

The successful candidate will be compassionate, skilled, hands-on and collaborative with significant experience of a working environment involving families with disability and/or complex needs (e.g. social care, health care, special needs education, disability law and/or family support in a similar organisation). You will have good working knowledge of disability law and other relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks, relevant organisations and agencies involved, and experience of an appropriate range of professional interventions. You will have demonstrable expertise and advanced training all aspects of safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults. You have proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support colleagues towards achieving shared goals.

The organisation offers a flexible working environment, with a fully remote working pattern and salary between £35-40k dependant on experience. This role will require occasional travel for engagement activities.
