We’re looking for a creative and hands-on communications all-rounder to support Climate Spring across digital, brand, marketing, events and general communications.

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the Head of Communications and Events as well as the Development and Events Coordinator, helping to deliver and evolve the organisation’s communications strategy. The post holder will also support communications and content creation for Climate Spring's Climate Fiction Prize, a new literary prize celebrating novels tackling the climate crisis.

This is a broad and varied role ideal for someone with a strong visual eye, excellent copywriting skills and experience across digital, social media, website and brand management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

‍Digital and Content:

• Maintain and update the Climate Spring website (Webflow).
• Draft, edit and publish content across a variety of channels, including website, social media, newsletters and events copy.
• Support the management of Climate Spring's social media channels and calendars; create and post content.
• Lead on compiling and gathering content for Climate Spring’s monthly community newsletter.
• Support social media output for the Climate Fiction Prize as needed.

‍Brand and Marketing:

• Act as brand guardian alongside the Head of Communications and Events, ensuring consistency across all communications outputs and materials.
• Support the design and production of assets for Climate Spring and the Climate Fiction Prize using Canva (social posts, invites, presentations, event materials).
• Keep up with branding and marketing trends and suggest fresh approaches to drive engagement and community building across channels.

Events Communications:

• Support the promotion and communications around Climate Spring events (in-person, online and partner-led)
• Working with the Development and Events Coordinator to manage and send out event invites, manage RSVPs and event follow-ups.
• Support the promotion and marketing for Climate Spring’s workshops and training offerings.
• Help identify and coordinate new event opportunities.
• Attend Climate Spring events (in-person and online), take photos and cover on socials as required.

Reporting and  Admin:

• Track and report on communications activities, including press coverage, social, newsletter and website analytics to optimise impact and reach.
• Assist with general communications, events and marketing planning.
• Manage and maintain mailing lists (newsletter list, press lists).
• Maintain and share the communications and events calendar.

MINIMUM ROLE CRITERIA AND SKILLS:

• Proven experience in a busy comms, digital, marketing or public affairs role (agency or in-house).
• Excellent copywriting skills across web, social and editorial.
• Strong visual eye for branding and attention to detail.
• Experience of creating engaging social media content tailored to different platforms.
• Experience with CMS management (Webflow preferred).
• Highly organised with strong project and time management skills.
• Confident communicator who can work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent administrative and IT skills.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLY DESIRABLE SKILLS:

• Design experience (Adobe Creative Suite/Canva).
• Video editing skills (especially for social media formats).
• Experience with e-marketing tools (e.g. Campaign Monitor).
• Familiarity with social and web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, social media analytics platforms like Hootsuite/Buffer).
• Experience in digital marketing and running and tracking paid social media ads.

Working hours

There are two separate roles, one with each team.   You will work 18.125 hours per week, days/hours to be agreed on appointment.

Hybrid working

This role will operate on a 'Work from Anywhere' basis, meaning that you can work both from home and/or from one of our 'hubs' that's nearest to where you live. In the North hubs are situated in Leeds and Newcastle; in Scotland, hubs are in Edinburgh and Glasgow; in Northern Ireland the hub is in Bellfast.  However, Barnardo's services are situated throughout both areas and there may be an opportunity to base yourself part time alongside one of our local services.  Some travel may be required.

This new role supports the delivery of our ambitious plans to develop and grow income from corporate partners including pharmaceuticals and major donors.  You will proactively lead on identifying, developing and delivering high and mid value partnerships. Utilising your excellent relationship management, you will think creatively and strategically to develop compelling proposals.

The role holder will work closely with the Senior Fundraising Manager and Chief Executive as we establish, develop, and retain these valued relationships.

Location

We have offices on London and Huddersfield, both of which are easily accessible by public transport or road. We support hybrid working but attendance in the chosen office is required for a minimum of 1 day per week.

Job Overview

The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for developing and delivering the Society’s communications strategy to enhance its visibility, influence, and engagement with key audiences. The role ensures that the Society’s voice is clear, consistent, inclusive, and aligned with its strategic aims across all channels—web, social media, email, press, and publications. The role combines planning and budgeting with hands-on communications activity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

• Develop and implement an annual communications plan to support the Society’s strategic objectives, including member communication and marketing of the Society’s activities events and programmes.
• Work with the CEO, senior staff and officers to shape key messages and deliver campaigns that enhance the Society’s visibility and reputation.

Digital and Print Content

• Manage the Society’s website, ensuring it is current, accessible, user-friendly, and engaging.
• Oversee the production and distribution of newsletters, bulletins, blogs, and reports.
• Write, edit, and commission content for various audiences, including members, academics, policymakers, students, and the general public.

Social Media and Brand Management

• Manage the Society’s presence on social media (e.g. X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube), creating engaging and timely content.
• Develop multimedia content (videos, infographics, animations) as needed.

Media and Public Relations

• Monitor performance against income and other targets and report regularly to the Chief Executive and Board.
• Prepare briefings, proposals and reports for Board and committee meetings.

Internal Support

• Provide communications advice and support to staff colleagues and committees across the organisation.
• Collaborate with staff colleagues to ensure clear and effective promotion of RES activities and outputs.
• Develop communication toolkits, templates, and training to support wider staff and volunteer contributions.

Other

• Carry out any other tasks and responsibilities commensurate with the role and as reasonably requested.

Person Specification

Essential Skills

1. Significant experience in a communications role, ideally within a professional body, academic institution, or non-profit organisation.
2. Excellent written and editorial skills, with the ability to produce compelling, accurate, and audience-appropriate content across different formats and channels.
3. Strong skills in managing digital platforms, including websites (e.g. WordPress), email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp), and social media (e.g. LinkedIn, X/Twitter, YouTube).
4. Proven ability to develop and implement communication plans, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
5. Experience in applying and maintaining brand identity across a wide range of communications outputs.
6. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including experience working with internal teams, senior leaders, and external stakeholders.
7. Ability to monitor performance metrics (e.g. website, social media) and adapt communications accordingly.

Desired Skills

1. Knowledge of economics or higher education landscape.

The Challenge & Community Fundraising Manager will be responsible for managing our challenge events and community fundraising portfolio to acquire new C&C supporters and steward our pool of loyal fundraisers, with the aim of increasing our unrestricted income. You will be responsible for the event and campaign management of our national challenge events and community campaigns. You will improve KPIs, maximise net income and be reactive to opportunities to ensure the programme achieves its full potential. You will oversee fundraiser journeys for onboarding, active and lapsed C&C audience segments, updating and creating useful and inspiring fundraising resources and building strong relationships with our fundraisers.

The Events & Fundraising Manager will work at the heart of our public events programme, helping to organise fundraising walks and other events across London and the South East, and raising funds to support the provision of free legal advice. Our events include the London Legal Walk -- an annual event which raises over £1 million each year -- regional Legal Walk events, and other fundraising events such as the Great Legal Quiz and the Great Legal Bake. LLST also purchases places for third party events such as the London Marathon, Brighton Marathon, and Big Half. We also raise money through individual and corporate donations.

The Events & Fundraising Manager's principal role is to manage these events and promote our fundraising in support of free legal advice charities in London and the South East. Your main duties and responsibilities will include the following:

• Managing staff and volunteers 
• Marketing and communications

We are looking for a candidate with demonstratable and relevant experience working at a senior level in mass participation and third-party challenge events. The person will be organised with experience managing projects, budgets, partnerships with funders and key stakeholders, suppliers, volunteers and staff.
