About Us

Safer Waves was set up in 2019 to provide support to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment or gender discrimination on board.

Safer Waves provides an anonymous email support service, run by volunteers who are trained in responding to disclosures of sexual violence, and who understand the specific challenges experienced when these events happen onboard a vessel.

We work with shipping companies, industry leaders, law enforcement and maritime training providers to raise awareness of sexual violence within the maritime industry, and to improve the support that is available to seafarers who experience it.

Job Purpose

For the first 5 years, Safer Waves has been a volunteer-led organisation. We are now in the exciting position of being able to recruit a CEO, and we are looking for an individual who has the passion to see this new organisation thrive in the maritime welfare sector.

As the head of a small and rapidly developing organisation, the CEO role will be extremely varied, with the opportunity to shape the organisational structure as needed. The CEO will work closely with the trustee board and Operations Manager to deliver the strategy, improve sustainability and financial resilience, manage risk and deliver high-quality services to our beneficiaries.

We are a growing organisation, and this is a unique opportunity to grow and innovate with the organisation and to contribute to our future success. Applicants will need to be prepared to take on a wide range of tasks at the outset including compliance, accounting, training, public speaking, banking, leading volunteers, engaging with external partners and funders, overseeing the website and email service and many other tasks.
 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities 

The CEO reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

• Strategy: Shape and deliver the charity's strategy over the next five years, whilst also ensuring the day-to-day running of the charity remains effective.

• Finance: Maintain and develop relationships with funders, and find new funding streams for the charity. Prepare budgets and control spending accordingly.

• Risk management and compliance: Work with the trustees to ensure strong governance, including effective management of risks and compliance with current legislation.

• Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with international organisations including charities, shipping companies, law enforcement and government agencies among others.

• Line management: Manage staff and volunteers

• Communications and Outreach: Work with the Operations Manager, Trustees and volunteers to raise the profile of the charity and increase the number of seafarers reached

Person Specification

Essential 

• Experience in being self-sufficient and driving progress, ideally in a business or charity setting.

• Knowledge and understanding of supporting survivors of sexual violence

We are looking for a part-time administrator to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for a first job or for someone looking to return to work. You would be working within our membership services team and need to be computer literate using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel on a Windows PC). Experience in using an online database, such as Civi-CRM, is also advantageous but not essential. We will provide full support and training as needed. 

We need good verbal and written communication skills as you will be public facing handling a range of telephone and email enquires. You'd be undertaking a range of administration roles and this would include dispatching goods from our online shop as well as dealing with new membership applications and services relevent to our members. We'd also love you to join our team at our annual conference assisting with administration, this is 3-4 nights away (all expenses paid) and so you need to be confident in presenting yourself and us on the registration desk and in other duties as necessary. 

We would require you, as a minimum, to work for some of your hours in our Ipswich based office but there is opportunity to work from home for some of your hours if that suits you. Alternatively, if you'd rather work at all times from our office thats fine as well.

Your starting salary is £25,526 pro rata and we provide a pension scheme. We provide an annual incremental rise (for 5-years recognising service and increasing knowledge) as well as any pay award as determined by our trustees. We have a AL allowance of 20-days (pro-rata) plus bank holidays as well as the 3-days off between Christmas and New Year when our office is closed.

Communication and Reporting: 

• Prepare regular reports on activities, outcomes, and impacts for internal and external stakeholders. 

• Maintain clear and consistent communication with a network of service users/charities to ensure their needs are met and feedback is integrated.

Qualifications and Experience: 

• At least 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, grant management or not-for-profit management. 

• Proven track record or strong knowledge of successful grant writing and fundraising initiatives. 

• Strong understanding of the funding landscape and the unique challenges faced by charities serving Muslim communities. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. 

• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective training and capacity-building programs. 

• Proficiency in using digital tools for remote work and virtual collaboration. 

• Commitment to AWN’s mission and values, with a proactive and results-oriented approach. 

• Excellent written skills.

The new Director of Place for Hope will continue to develop Place for Hope as they work with Trustees, Staff and Volunteers to shape and finalise the next 5-year strategy that ensures Place for Hope is fit for purpose in a changing UK landscape for charities and faith communities. They will provide leadership and to be responsible for the overall management and administration of the charity within the strategic and accountability frameworks agreed by the Board of Trustees. 

Previous experience essential to the role includes: values-based leadership; peace, conflict transformation and/or mediation; collaborating and communicating effectively with different Christian denominations and other faiths, excellent organisational and communication skills, and experience in income generation (including through building diverse partnerships).The ideal candidate would also have an interest in supporting faith communities to transform conflict, navigate change well and be able to support an internal CPD programme and culture of reflective practice.

1MM Mentor Recruitment Lead main tasks include:

●      Build, lead, own and execute 1MM’s mentor recruitment strategy

●      Source enough mentors to ensure 1MM has an oversupply (c.15% higher than demand) of fully trained, location relevant mentors available

In this key role, you’ll lead on engaging individual supporters, nurturing long-term donor relationships, and driving income from one-off and regular giving. You’ll bring creativity, insight, and a supporter-first mindset to help grow and steward our donor base during an exciting phase of our development.

Labour Behind the Label is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Individual Giving Fundraiser to plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate an ambitious and effective individual giving programme for individual donations, cash appeals and regular giving. You will be responsible for the coordination of these areas of fundraising across multiple channels, as well as the administration and stewardship required to ensure engaging supporter journeys.

The successful candidate is likely to bring a strong understanding of how we can recruit and retain supporters as well the latest digital trends and demonstrate creative and technical skills to deliver a digital fundraising strategy. You will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of boosting individual giving for small organisations, write compelling communications and have a particular flair for digital fundraising. You will collaborate with the team to optimise lifetime value from potential and current supporters. You will feel comfortable handling data sets and feel confident knowing how to make the most of data. You will be results driven and enjoy analysing your fundraising campaigns to ensure maximum success for the next.

Labour Behind the Label (LBL) supports garment workers' efforts worldwide to improve their working conditions, wages, and ensure their basic rights are respected. We do this through lobbying retailers, brands and political leaders; raising public awareness; promoting campaign action; and exploring legal possibilities for improving conditions.

Key areas                               

Fundraising

• Develop and implement LBL’s individual giving fundraising strategy (including one off, cash appeals and regular giving)
• Be responsible for driving up overall regular giving numbers
• Identify new ways to ask for funds; plan, implement and evaluate
• Manage one off appeals including our end of year Big Give appeal
• Manage LBL’s Challenge Events including the Six Items Challenge, Bath Half Marathon London Marathon and Brighton Marathon  
• Be the first point of contact for supporters – send out materials if required and build relationships
• Create Meta ads where appropriate
• Oversee our grant fundraising pipeline by identifying new grant opportunities, tracking application deadlines, and coordinating with team members to ensure timely and strategic submission of high-quality grant proposals.       

Communications

• Continue a regular giving strategy to generate growth in income and acquisition/retention numbers
• Continue to develop and implement a robust supporter journey
• Create social media assets for fundraising using Canva
• Social media use and update the website (including fundraising pages/posts and donation forms)

Database Management

• Manage the organisation’s database: Beacon
• Take a lead on ensuring data is properly processed, clean and useful for the team
• Manage data entry and updates on our CRM database to maintain up to date records on supporter contact information, attributes, relationships and donations
