Job Opportunity: Trainee Immigration Adviser
Location: St Pauls Advice Centre, Bristol
Salary: £11,439.20 to £12,256.29 actual (£28,598 FTE, NJC 12)
Hours: 14 hours per week (or 15 hours over 3 days)
Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2027

St Pauls Advice Centre is looking for a Trainee Immigration Adviser to help deliver high-quality, free and independent immigration advice to our community.

For over 50 years, St Pauls Advice Centre has supported the people of Bristol through expert advice on immigration, housing, benefits and related issues. We are committed to equality, inclusion and empowering people through specialist legal advice and advocacy.

The Role
Working under the supervision of the Immigration Supervisor and alongside the Immigration Adviser, you will:
- Work towards achieving IAA accreditation at Level 1 or higher
- Provide specialist immigration advice at IAA Level 1 (once accredited)
- Manage a caseload and support clients with immigration applications and enquiries
- Conduct client interviews and gather evidence to support applications
- Deliver advice sessions at our office and in community locations, and provide telephone assistance
- Maintain accurate case records in line with IAA requirements and organisational standards
- Keep up to date with immigration legislation, policy and practice
- Contribute to monitoring, advocacy and campaigning work
- Support the team in meeting funding and service delivery targets
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Committed to achieving IAA Level 1 accreditation (or already accredited)
- Passionate about social justice and migrant rights
- Organised, thorough and able to manage detailed casework
- A strong communicator with the ability to work sensitively with diverse communities
- Able to work both independently and as part of a supportive team
- Committed to anti-discriminatory and non-judgemental practice
Experience of advice work or working with migrant communities is desirable.

The Western Forest is a bold new initiative forming part of England’s National Forest Network—connecting landscapes across Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Together with a wide network of partners, we’re working to restore nature, improve wellbeing and generate green growth.
As a Farm & Tree Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in planning and delivering woodland creation, supporting our ambition to establish 2,500 hectares of new woodland by 2030. You’ll be working directly with farmers and landowners to bring tree‑planting projects to life—ensuring the right trees are planted in the right places, supported by the right grants and funding.
You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive team in Avon or Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, supported by the Western Forest team expertise and embedded in a region‑wide nature recovery network.
�� What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as an on‑the‑ground representative of Avon / Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and the Western Forest
- Identifying new tree and woodland creation opportunities with existing and new farmer and landowner contacts
- Building and developing strong, trusted relationships with farmers and landowners in your area
- Delivering a one‑stop shop advisory service for tree planting, including site visits, planting design support and grant guidance
- Producing tree creation plans that deliver benefits to the farming system and wider land use
- Managing multiple landowner projects simultaneously—mapping, costing, planning and reporting
- Preparing and submitting grant applications and navigating regulatory requirements
- Working collaboratively with forestry agents, farmers, partners, and other environmental NGOs

We’re looking for a methodical and strategic Programme Manager (Award) to manage the end-to-end delivery of University Mental Health Charter (UMHC) Award and act as key spokesperson for the programme.
You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that the Award upholds its standards and values, and continues to develop and scale, supporting positive change for staff and students at universities across the UK.
About the role
- Lead the delivery of the nationally-recognised accreditation for mental health in higher education: the University Mental Health Charter Award.
- The UMHC Award recognises universities that promote the mental health and wellbeing of their university communities and supports them to continually improve.
- You will own the end-to-end management of a complex, high-profile and impactful programme, balancing administrative excellence and strategic development.
Key responsibilities
- Drive the Award lifecycle, from onboarding universities, coordinating our network of assessors and managing the Award panel.
- Scale and continually improve the Award process, ensuring it remains rigorous, impactful and values-led.
- Act as key spokesperson and point of contact for universities and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for budget, risk and line management.
What we’re looking for
- Proven track record of managing complex projects.
- Experience developing, maintaining and improving robust systems and processes.
- A rigorous approach to accuracy and quality control.
- Comfortable holding difficult conversations with stakeholders at all levels.
