Lead and develop the charity’s HR and Volunteering functions (People) to foster a positive, engaging, and inclusive work environment, in line with the organisation’s values and EDI objectives

Key Tasks

Leadership

• Work with the People Sub-Committee (PSC) and SMT to develop and implement organisational people strategies and plans to support the delivery of our organisational strategy for older people.
• Have responsibility for our progress against these plans; measure and report this to PSC and SMT, including by administering our annual people survey, volunteer survey and trustee survey. Identify areas that require improvement and make recommendations for change.

People management

• Oversee People-related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and best practices.
• Support the development and implementation of Learning and Development (L&D) initiatives.
• Provide support and guidance to those in line management roles within the organisation including on performance management issues and processes.
• Provide line management and support to the Community and Volunteer Manager, ensuring 6 their work aligns with organisational priorities.
• Manage complex employee relations cases, including grievances, disciplinary actions, and change management.

Administration

• Ensure all employee compliance requirements are met, including DBS checks, right to work documentation, and up-to-date staff records.
• Work with the DFO to ensure accurate and timely monthly payroll processing)

Quality

• Ensure that AUKEL’s People policies and procedure are in compliance with the Charity Quality Standard.
• Strive for excellence through the people in the organisation.

Liaison

• To participate to the National Age UK HR network to exchange insight and learn good practice.
• To liaise with our Solicitor team to ensure compliance when managing complex cases.
• To represent AUKEL and participate in appropriate external meetings and events in order to remain aware of local, regional and national issues affecting quality and compliance issues affecting charitable companies.
• To attend relevant HR/ Employment Law seminars or work groups as the AUKEL HR ambassador.

General

• To meet regularly with the CEO for support, supervision and appraisal.
• To attend team and staff meetings, as required.

An exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of a growing adult literacy charity as it expands across North England

One in 20 adults in the UK has never learnt to read at all. This can have a serious impact on their confidence and wellbeing, limiting access to training, employment, and everyday opportunities that many take for granted. Being unable to read as an adult can be isolating and dangerous, reinforces social inequality, restricts economic growth, and worsens intergenerational disadvantage - but it is never too late to learn.

Read Easy helps adults transform their lives by learning to read. It does this by supporting its growing network of locally run, volunteer-led affiliated groups that offer free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching—both in person and online to adults - aged from 18-88. 

With its free, flexible, confidential approach, Read Easy encourages people who are too embarrassed to join a class to come forward for one-to-one support. Each new reader is provided with their own personal Reading Coach, so that they can learn in private and at their own pace. Learning to read transforms their lives in many other ways as well, including enabling them to support their children’s and grandchildren’s reading, and so transfers the benefits to the next generation.

There are currently 80 affiliated Read Easy groups across England, together involving more than a thousand volunteers. Read Easy UK is the registered charity and umbrella organisation which supports this network of affiliated volunteer groups and provides the structure, training and support to enable volunteers to establish groups in new areas.

As our North Regional Adviser, your role would be to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure that all volunteer groups in your region consistently deliver high-quality services aligned with Read Easy UK’s strategy.

You will support local volunteer leaders to strengthen group performance, and foster collaboration across affiliated groups, so that that they deliver coaching to Readers with consistent quality, and a positive and worthwhile experience is had by all.

You will also find volunteers to ‘pioneer’ four new groups in the counties where there is no Read Easy presence and provide them and our 17 existing groups and pioneers in the region, with high-quality support. Your quality support will ensure that they provide the same for their volunteers and new Readers. From meeting (mostly online) with Team Leaders to provide one to one support, and hosting online and annual in-person volunteer forums, to delivering presentations and occasional training for small groups of volunteers, this is a dynamic and rewarding role.

This is a home-based post requiring flexibility, some early evening working and occasional travel to visit groups. The role is available on a part time basis (22.5 hours p/w, 60% of 37.5 hours p/w FTE).

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Live within one of the following areas: York, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire or Greater Manchester (Due to the location of our groups in the region, and to ensure efficient travel);
• have been employed to work with volunteers for at least two years;
• have strong people management and interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; and the confidence to run meetings and deliver presentations.

Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) is a human rights charity that supports tropical forest peoples to protect their lands and livelihoods. Travel & Logistics

• Coordinate international and domestic travel for staff, consultants, and partners (including travel, flights, visas, accommodation, insurance).

The Policy and Public Affairs team works to ensure that national laws, policies and guidance across the UK are fit-for-purpose in preventing cruelty to children. We develop and maintain the NSPCC’s positions on key public policy issues, drawing on research and policy analysis and feed in organisational insight and expertise gained through our services. We use our evidence-based positions to shape and influence national policy discussions on issues affecting child protection and manage the NSPCC’s political relations and work with governments, legislatures and stakeholders across the UK.

Job purpose

We are recruiting a Policy and Public Affairs Officer to contribute to the work of the Wales Policy and Public Affairs team in delivering real change and reform in the best interests of children.

The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will be responsible for undertaking policy work to achieve the NSPCC’s strategic goals, using their skills and experience to strengthen the NSPCC’s impact on public policy, and in doing so make a significant contribution to keeping children safe. • Utilise Re-engage's CRM (OPUS) to inform evidence-based, data-driven decision-making to develop effective engagement plans.
• Working closely with the service delivery team ensuring that the right people are recruited and engaged into the right roles, in the right place, and at the right times. 
• Collaborating with the communications team ensuring the widest possible publicity for the region’s needs through media and social media opportunities, local press, radio, TV, and online forums.
• Liaising closely with the fundraising team delivering against recruitment targets linked to grants.
• Working with the fundraising team on proposals and grant applications using regional knowledge, identifying local need, and collecting case studies.
• Identifying speaking and presenting opportunities ensuring that Re-engage's work is promoted to referrers.
• Working effectively as part of a regional team, maintaining, and growing all Re-engage services. 
• Joint accountability, with colleagues in the region, for the engagement of older people and recruitment of volunteers into Re-engage's portfolio of services 
• Carrying out any other reasonable tasks assigned to you by your line manager.

As a Professional Adviser for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), you can achieve this and more. We have an exciting opportunity to work with members, services and stakeholders in Northern Ireland for someone who wants to broaden their experience, influence decision-making and contribute to shaping the profession.

You will be a UK-resident, have recent or current experience of working within the health system in Northern Ireland, and ideally be based in, or within easy travelling distance of Northern Ireland to meet the requirements of the role and engage in member-facing activity.

This is a totally different role where you will use your professional knowledge, skills and experience, working with the physiotherapy workforce and other stakeholders across the UK to improve and transform practice and service delivery. You will have a specific focus on strengthening our professional activities within Northern Ireland. You will work with colleagues across the CSP to develop resources and approaches that will facilitate and empower members to demonstrate the impact and value of physiotherapy to the populations they serve.

This role has both national and regional responsibilities. You will play a key role in the progression and delivery of innovative national projects and lead specific areas of work related to our strategic objectives, with an emphasis on activities from a Northern Irish perspective. In collaboration with national stakeholders, you will play an active role in identifying and influencing developing policy, looking for opportunities to enhance service provision and improve patient outcomes and experience through better provision of physiotherapy.

The CSP has a network of regional and country teams across the UK to support our members wherever they live, work or study.  You will join a country multi-disciplinary team with CSP colleagues from policy, communications and the trade union to develop robust networks and engage members. This role therefore requires excellent communication, influencing and networking skills to enable members to understand, evidence and articulate the value and impact of physiotherapy to influence local decision-making.

It doesn’t stop there. You will be part of a team of professional advisers who provide peer support and a professional advice service to CSP members. There are numerous development opportunities to work as part of other corporate teams, giving you access to a range of experiences such as lobbying government, influencing press and media coverage and working with local physiotherapy services to shape commissioning strategies and decisions.
