By supporting our amazing volunteer facilitators and our highly valued partnership organisations, you’ll help drive growth of SMART Recovery programmes and meetings across 2 distinct geographical areas making our 4-Point Programmes even more accessible to those wanting to manage any type of addictive behaviour.
North East: The counties of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham.
Yorkshire & The Humbers: The counties of North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire.
To thrive in this role, you'll need hands-on experience of facilitating groups or meetings and an understanding of what great facilitation looks like. Whilst already being a qualified SMART Recovery Facilitator and/or having engaged with our meetings as a previous participant is a distinct advantage, we also accept applications from individuals with a general awareness of addiction recovery or our 4-Point Programme. Importantly, you’ll be someone who brings people together, listens deeply, and creates a safe, empowering space for growth and recovery.
Your presentation skills should engage, inspire, and inform with clarity and warmth, whether you’re speaking with a room full of volunteers, delivering training via Zoom, or presenting to our partnership organisations. You’ll be required to help grow our footprint, increase and diversify our partnerships and encourage the uptake of our programme. You will represent UKSR at community events, recovery walks and conferences and get involved in defined projects.
We welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of addiction, whether that’s your own recovery journey or being close to someone else’s. Previous delivery of training is essential, and if that experience has been gained in a peer-support or recovery setting, all the better. This role requires emotional intelligence; you’ll be working with people who have faced adversity, and your ability to support them within clear, professional boundaries is critical. Giving and receiving feedback, gathering data and other evidence to inform service development, and exercising reflective practice are all essential attributes.
You’ll also contribute to key projects that move SMART Recovery forward, adding your voice and insight to help shape what comes next. The role therefore requires project mangement skills as you will work on specific projects that develop our publications, training, communications and marketing. If you have a special interest and expertise in certain areas of our business such as social media and campaigns, training, volunteer management or copywriting we can develop this skill and interest as an enhancement to your role. Developing areas of expertise within our Co-ordinator team is something we are keen to do.
As this is a home-based role, you’ll need to be comfortable forming meaningful relationships online, building trust and connection via email, phone, and video calls. We’ll provide the equipment you need, but you’ll bring the energy and adaptability to make remote working feel personal and productive. Regular travel across the defined regions is a vital part of the role, visiting SMART Recovery meetings in the community and within partner organisations, and offering continual support to facilitators, are all essential in helping our network continue to grow with the quality we strive for.

The Organisation
The Chartered College of Teaching is a charity and the professional body for teachers. We are working to empower a knowledgeable and respected teaching profession through membership and accreditation.
We are dedicated to bridging the gap between practice and research and equipping teachers from the moment they enter the classroom with the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their pupils.
Our activities mainly focus on four key areas:
Since opening membership in 2017, we have grown rapidly. In total our work reaches over 40,000 teachers and more than 3.6 million young people. We are a growing and multi-skilled team of 30 people, supported by a Board of Trustees with a significant track record of experience in a range of fields. Our business plan focuses on growing membership and Chartered Status, strategic positioning of the College in the education sector, and providing meaningful professional learning opportunities for the teaching profession.
The Opportunity
Our publications and online learning resources support teachers to make a difference to the lives of millions of children across the country. Our peer-reviewed practitioner journal is used by teachers and educators to develop their evidence-informed practice.
We are recruiting within the content and publishing team to welcome an Editorial Assistant who believes in our mission to support the work we do.
Over the coming months, the Editorial Assistant will keep the journal's peer review cycle on track, provide high-quality support to authors and reviewers and contribute to wider publishing activity across the Chartered College.

You will send articles out to reviewers with the relevant guidelines, track response deadlines, and follow up as needed. Once reviews are received, you will format the reports to a consistent standard and save them to the shared Google Drive. We currently organise our workflow around Asana and Google Drive, and you'll work closely with the Content Editor to keep the review cycle on track. You will need to be someone who can manage several articles at different stages simultaneously and take pride in keeping things well-organised and on time.
Author support and proofreading
You will spend some of your time on proofreading and editorial tasks, including marking up corrections on PDFs and supporting the Content Editor with copy amendments during the production process. You will also act as a first point of contact for authors, providing clear and friendly communication to support them through the publication process – from submission through to final publication. You will be expected to respond to author queries professionally and promptly, escalating where needed, and to help maintain a positive experience for contributors to the journal.
Wider publishing support
You will spend some of your time supporting wider publishing activity across the College, including uploading and updating content on WordPress and carrying out other publishing-related tasks as and when required. Beyond your core responsibilities, you will also participate in team meetings and be encouraged to take part in professional learning activities and training to maintain and develop your knowledge and skills.
About You
Editorial support for us means keeping our peer review process running efficiently and providing a positive, professional experience for the authors and reviewers who contribute to our journal.
You do not need to have expertise in absolutely all areas, let us decide! We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and encourage you to apply. A little bit about you
We are looking for a People Partner who builds strong relationships across the organisation and can turn business priorities into practical people solutions. You should work independently, using sound judgment to manage complex employee relations cases, while partnering closely with managers on recruitment, workforce planning and talent development. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities, bringing a coaching approach that knows when to challenge and when to step back. You should understand risk well enough to know when to escalate, and stay grounded in employment law, ideally with a CIPD qualification. You should be genuinely invested in creating an inclusive, high-performing culture, with charity sector experience a bonus and an appetite for a role that grows and changes with the organisation.
We have a fast-moving culture within the team and organisation, so we’re looking for someone who is who is well organised, details-focused and can use their initiative to do what works. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to build relationships with people and be willing to learn. There are lots of opportunities for growth and development in this role – and for the right candidate to make the role their own.
If you feel you have the skills to make a real impact and contribute to creating lasting social change for children and families, we would love to hear from you.
Important information
We have increased the diversity of Frontline’s workforce in the last 12 months, but we need to do more to have greater global majority representation in our senior roles. We know the value global majority voices bring and therefore, we are strongly encouraging applicants from these backgrounds to apply. We are also a disability confident employer and welcome applicants with disabilities.
We recognise that artificial intelligence (AI) such as ‘ChatGPT’ etc can be useful for applicants e.g. to shorten an initial draft, so we do not attempt to have an absolute ban on AI in applications. However we would caution applicants not to rely too much on AI in drafting answers to application questions. We want to hear your authentic voice arising out of your experience, and we will be looking for answers that use examples and experiences that are specific to you. You are more likely to be able to produce that kind of content yourself than an AI will.
We reserve the right to close this role ahead of the deadline once we reach a suitable number of applications, so please apply as soon as you can!
