RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate annual calendar of volunteer training events

· Work in partnership with the Volunteer Development Manager to understand volunteer recruitment needs across services and the wider team.

· Liaise with services teams to plan and develop the calendar of volunteer training events, both in person and virtual.

· Manage relationships with training venues ensuring desired dates are secured early in line with event requirements and budgets.

· Proactively research new training venues which meet accessibility requirements.

· Work with team members taking a lead on volunteer training delivery to ensure all training materials are up to date and relevant training packs/goodie boxes are distributed to trainees.

· Liaise with trainees to ensure confirmation paperwork is completed in a timely manner and needs relevant to training are met.

· Keep accurate records and maintain database records to ensure services teams are kept up to date with trainee information and any changes to event attendance.

· Circulate post-training communications to help ensure new volunteers are onboarded in a timely manner.

· Collect and distribute feedback from trainees to ensure quality of delivery is maintained to a high standard.

· Lead, sustain and develop strong and effective working relationships across the Back Up team.

Manage volunteer applications and requests

· Work with Volunteer Development Manager to ensure application process is kept up to date and is easily accessible to prospective volunteers.

· Liaise with potential volunteers, following up on expressions of interest, providing triage, answering queries and providing information relating to roles which may be relevant and of interest to encourage applications.

· Maintain database records ensuring swift distribution of applications to services team

· Support the Volunteer Development Manager to identify areas of potential efficiency and improvement in working practices in the recruitment, training and onboarding processes.

· Work across the wider team to understand and support volunteer requests, proactively approaching active volunteers with projects and opportunities for them to get involved.

· Coordinate volunteer request opportunities with volunteers and volunteer managers to ensure requests are fulfilled to raise awareness of Back Up’s services.

Other duties and responsibilities

· Maintaining accurate records on the database, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.

· Be a ‘Data Champion’, leading by example on the importance of good data practice and hygiene, and using the system to its best efficiency.

· Raise awareness of volunteer opportunities via external websites e.g. GoVo, NHS Volunteering.

· Work as a team, consulting with others to ensure you give and receive high quality support.

· Other duties as required by the Volunteer Development Manager.

As one of our two Lead event stewards you will be responsible for our team of paid, casual Cathedral Stewards. The Cathedral Stewards are an essential part of our life at the Cathedral – making possible the busy and engaging programme of services and events that we hold. You will organise the duty rota for the paid Cathedral Stewards, lead the Cathedral Stewards on the Cathedral floor during events and special services and take a lead on the recruitment, training and development of the stewards in collaboration with the EA to the COO. 

You will work closely with the Head of Engagement, the Engagement Coordinator and the Head of Events – assisting them with their delivery of events. You will also be a key member of the Health, Safety and Security Committee at the Cathedral. At its core, this is a role which offers the Lead Event Stewards the chance to be at the forefront of our relationship with our visitors and play a key part in the success of our special services, large-scale commercial and Engagement events.

• Significant experience of event stewarding
• A keen awareness of health, safety, and security challenges for large public sites
• Experience of line managing volunteers or paid casual staff

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Organise monthly rotas for the Cathedral Event Stewards to ensure all events are adequately and appropriately staffed;
• Working alongside the HR team, develop and maintain a training programme for Cathedral stewards
• Work alongside the Head of Engagement and the Engagement Coordinator to take part actively in planning, set-up and delivery of Engagement events such as talks, theatre, music, comedy nights and art installations;
• Undertake stewarding shifts for special services, large scale commercial events and Engagement events;
• Work alongside the team to undertake Risk Assessments and Method Statements for special and Engagement events; 
• Assist the Audience Development Coordinator in collecting feedback from Engagement events
• Demonstrate outstanding customer service at all times;
• Attend the fortnightly Health, Safety and Security Committee: help to develop and implement new initiatives and responses to legislation and other guidelines, and assist with developing ways of working and steward handbooks;
• Attend various internal meetings including the weekly diary meeting, project and event planning meetings, all-staff meetings and the Health, Safety and Security Committee meeting.
• Ensure we are compliant with meeting our duty of care to members of the public.
• Compile steward timesheets and submit to the Finance Department for payroll

Challenge Events and Community Fundraising Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Working Pattern: Remote with attendance at meetings in Cannock/London (approx 2 per month) and attendance at events across the UK as required.

The Special Events team is responsible for the management and delivery of unique festivals partnerships and special events.

About the role

As our Special Events Manager – Volunteering you will lead volunteer management across all of WaterAid’s festival and special events activity and manage teams of staff and volunteers onsite at some of the UKs biggest and most loved public events.

In this role, you will:

• Recruit, train and manage over 700 volunteers across festivals
• Develop and deliver volunteer training, safeguarding and wellbeing processes.
• Support the special events team with operational plans, including volunteer schedules, logistics and volunteer welfare.
• Lead teams onsite at festival events as required including Glastonbury festival, and other WaterAid events.

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

• Proven experience of recruiting, developing, motivating, and managing large teams of volunteers at mass public events.
• Excellent knowledge and experience of safeguarding and welfare practices for volunteers and experience in delivering these in a live events environment.
• Proven experience of leading, managing and supporting volunteers and staff.
• Ability to manage cross-team projects and establish excellent stakeholder relationships at peer and senior levels to deliver against shared objectives.

About the role

Reporting in to the National Events Manager, the Events Fundraising Officer will recruit and engage supporters, building trust and collaboration to strengthen Christian Aid’s event and DIY fundraising activity and maximise participation in challenge events. Supporting the planning and delivery of impactful fundraising and stewardship initiatives, while working flexibly to contribute to wider team priorities and key fundraising moments.

The post-holder will develop meaningful communications with Christian Aid’s supporters, churches, and volunteers to maximise engagement and create consistent, high-quality experiences.

Some of the main areas of responsibility for the Events Fundraising Officer include:

• Manage and develop the challenge events portfolio, including key events such as the London Marathon and Great North Run, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and budgets and effective collaboration with stakeholders.
• Support the National Events Manager in planning and delivering Christian Aid’s owned event portfolio, contributing to successful delivery against agreed timelines and budgets.
• Develop and deliver tailored plans for event volunteer recruitment, recognition, and retention, fostering meaningful engagement and a positive volunteer experience.
• Take lead in growing DIY church fundraising, contributing to the acquisition of new supporters, deeper engagement with churches, and increased impact.
• Respond to enquiries relating to challenge events, DIY fundraising, and event volunteering, providing clear, timely, and solution-focused advice to stakeholders.
• Contribute to the growth of Christian Aid’s movement-building presence within church communities, supporting stronger connections and increased supporter engagement.
• Work in a collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-focused way, with a commitment to continuous improvement, high-quality delivery, and the flexibility to respond to evolving team priorities.

We're looking for two Events & Marketing Assistants to join our small, busy team at Portsmouth Cathedral. It's a varied, practical role that sits right at the heart of our commercial operations - coordinating venue hire bookings, setting up for evening concerts, supporting licensed events, and everything in between. Alongside this supporting the marketing for our events and the wider organisation as a whole.

No two weeks look quite the same, and roughly half the role takes place during evenings and weekends. The pattern of hours will vary week to week in line with the Cathedral's events programme. In weeks where no events are scheduled, the postholders will work standard office hours.  There are two posts available with a proposal to work three days each of 21 hours.

About the role

As an Events Fundraiser you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of third-party challenge events, delivering marketing plans to boost participation and creating first-class stewardship journeys. You’ll be data driven, using insights and sector trends to inform improvements and highlight opportunities to grow our challenge events portfolio.

You will attend key events as required to support with on-the-day logistics and volunteer management. Please note, due to the nature of our work you will be required to attend some events and meetings which can be during weekends, early mornings or evenings.

Please note - this is a hybrid role involving 3 days in Shooting Star House and 2 days working from home.

With fundraising and events experience, you will be a motivated and organised individual who communicates confidently across a range of channels both internally and with external stakeholders.
