We are seeking an ambitious, driven and visionary Head of Fundraising to lead our expanding team at a pivotal moment in our journey. As we launch our new three-year fundraising strategy, this is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a growing charity and play a leading role in delivering sustainable income that directly supports local children and families.
With the backing of an engaged Board of Trustees and a passionate, committed team, you will provide strategic leadership across all income streams. You will guide and inspire our small but high-performing fundraising team to grow and diversify income — strengthening individual giving through innovative donor acquisition and impactful campaigns, while also supporting the development of our corporate partnerships, community fundraising and events programmes. You will work remotely with travel around Herts & Bucks.

Line Manager: Provisionally the Chairman of the board of trustees
Accountable to: Provisionally the Pepper Foundation board of trustees
Primary objectives: The Head of Fundraising manages a small, expanding team to deliver sustainable fundraising income. Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours per week with some flexibility on when hours are worked.
Salary: £46000-£50000 FTE Pro Rata (depending on experience).
Pension: We make a 5% contribution to your pension with a minimum of 3% from the employee based on salary paid. Benefits: Mileage allowance in accordance with HMRC guidelines, provision of laptop and mobile phone for performance of duties, reimbursement of work expenses and an Employee Assistance Programme.
Specialisms: The Head of Fundraising will specialise in increasing income through donor development and legacy fundraising whilst having a good, general understanding of community, corporate, events and challenge fundraising.
Office location: Your primary place of work will be at home, but significant time will be spent out and about meeting supporters and colleagues. Pepper has access to meeting facilities and a small operational base in Berkhamsted.
Area of operation: Fundraising will take place in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. There will be occasional visits and meetings outside this area.
Professional development: The Head of Fundraising will be encouraged to undertake training and professional development activities in line with their duties and career aspirations.
Management: The Head of Fundraising will manage and support:
• the fundraising team comprising a Fundraising Officer and Community Fundraiser
• the communications, marketing and PR agency
• our Database administrator (volunteer, part time)
• our Volunteer Co-ordinator (volunteer, part time)

Key requirements:
• Work with trustees and colleagues to develop organisational and fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets.
• Work closely with the charity’s communications, marketing and PR agency to manage the charity’s online presence including website and social media platforms and extend the charity’s audience reach to generate support for fundraising campaigns and events.
• Work with the fundraising team to deliver events and initiatives and build relationships to raise funds for the charity
• Build fundraising campaigns to gain support through direct marketing
• Deliver agreed fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets
• Drive, monitor and report on the progress of the fundraising strategy and budget
• Ensure that the charity’s case for support is compelling, inspirational and effective
• Maximise, develop and retain records of financial contributions from all sources
• Raise public awareness to position the charity as one of the top three local charities
• Agree objectives, manage and motivate the team and provide the support needed to deliver their objectives including appropriate professional development and training
• Attend meetings and events to deliver promotional talks and presentations about the charity
• Use the charity’s Donorfy CRM database and other sources to mine and prospect for new donors and deliver a donor development programme
• Attend trustee meetings and prepare reports on all fundraising and marketing activities
• Manage the recruitment of new fundraising staff and volunteers

About The Job:
This is a vital role in delivering our fundraising strategy and goals. The role holder will be responsible for raising income from individuals and legacies and increasing the volume and value of our supporter relationships, engaging new audiences and driving sustainable income growth. We will also trust the role holder to deliver fantastic supporter journeys and supporter experiences and contribute to the overall implementation of the Fundraising Team’s objectives.
Main Areas Of Responsibility:
Income Generation
· Lead on raising income to an agreed target, through acquisition, development and retention of individuals and legacy pledgers, as agreed with the Head of Fundraising and Communications.
Strategy
· Work closely with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to build and deliver a highly effective, sustainable, audience-centred public fundraising and supporter experience plan.
· Engage in market and supporter insight to inform decision-making and development of new activity/products.
· Develop a good understanding of our supporter base, their motivations and behaviours. Use our CRM database (Raisers’ Edge NXT) and data analysis and insights to inform the development of new fundraising campaigns and products.
· Take the lead role in the development of effective supporter journeys, working with the Community Fundraising Team to convert community fundraisers and events participants into regular donors.
· Lead the design and delivery of individual giving campaigns (including the Christmas campaign), using direct mail, digital marketing and advertisements to drive supporter acquisition and retention.
· Develop and design our legacy programme, working with Farewill and local law firms to encourage supporters to include Homeless Oxfordshire in their will.
· Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to develop and deliver a mid-level giving programme, driving the major donor pipeline and effectively stewarding donors giving at the £300-£1,000 level.
Operational Delivery
· Be responsible for the setting and managing of budgets, targets and KPIs. Report on progress, trends and take action when required. Analyse results and evaluate activity to inform future plans.
· Act as the lead-user for Raisers’ Edge, supervise the Data Administrator to ensure accurate data entry and reconciliation, and support the team with reporting and data analysis.
· Work collaboratively to ensure that all income generation activity is integrated and opportunities for cross-team working are maximised.
· Develop processes that enhance the team’s capacity, efficiency, and ensure effective fundraising.
· Manage external partners and agencies involved in fundraising delivery, ensuring due diligence, high quality and effectiveness.
· Ensure the highest standard of supporter experience in order to make the most of every interaction.
· Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all areas of the public fundraising portfolio, including the Fundraising Code of Practice, Data Protection and Gift Aid. Model best practice and coach team member as required.
Leadership
· Line manage the Data Administrator, supporting them on reconciliation, data entry and gift processing.
· Provide management information for SMT and the Board of Trustees as requested and attending meetings when required.
· Build positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
· Represent the charity at external meetings as and when required.
· Engage with the wider charity sector, learning from peers and sharing best practice.
General Duties:
· Compliance with Homeless Oxfordshire’s policies and procedures.
· Contribute to a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are valued and staff are enabled to do their best.
· Contribute to the work of the broader team.
· Responsible for the effective use of financial and other resources.
· Be prepared to work evenings and weekends, as the job reasonably demands.

Monitor and Grow Existing University Partnerships

Responsibility for a portfolio of upReach’s existing university partners, ensuring effective stewardship of the day-to-day relationship with high satisfaction, sustainable renewal and growth.

Set and monitor partnership goals and OKRs, leading regular reviews and performance reporting.

Identify opportunities to deepen and broaden engagement with existing partners, including expanding partnership activities.

Collaborate with the Student Attraction and Programme teams to engage the university in identifying & promoting the programme.

Lead on university partnership health reviews and mid-year partner reviews to ensure any issues are dealt with effectively, promptly and collaboratively.
Partnership Visibility and Impact

Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications to co-create high-quality content and campaigns that showcase our strategic partnerships through university guides, case studies, thought leadership, social media, and joint events.

Proactively identify and deliver opportunities for partners to amplify the voice of upReach; through our external events, fundraising opportunities and sharing social-media collateral that promotes our work.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Innovation

Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure timely and accurate invoicing and contracting for all University partnerships, supporting effective financial management.

Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of partnership activity using upReach’s internal CRM and systems, enabling effective reporting, forecasting and stewardship.

Manage and support a rotation of the Future Charity Leaders Programme, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities.

As Deputy Head of Fundraising, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering innovative fundraising strategies across multiple streams—corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, individual giving, and community fundraising. You’ll oversee donor acquisition and stewardship, inspire your team, and ensure we meet ambitious targets. Location: The Orpheus Centre, Surrey
Salary: £45,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working considered) / 52 weeks per year
Contract: Permanent
What you’ll do
- Lead revenue fundraising strategies and secure income through personal efforts.
- Manage and develop a talented fundraising team.
- Build strong relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.
- Design compelling campaigns and optimise performance using data insights.
- Deputise for the Head of Income and Growth when required.
