Job description

About the role:

A safe, secure home can change everything. But for people facing poverty, poor health, debt, substance use or other forms of multiple disadvantage, keeping hold of a private rented tenancy can be difficult without the right support.

As our Private Rented Sector (PRS) Floating Support Worker, you’ll work alongside adults living in private rented accommodation, helping them overcome the barriers that could put their home at risk. You’ll build trusting relationships, understand what matters to each person and support them to strengthen the skills, confidence and stability they need to sustain their tenancy and live more independently.

No two days will look the same. You could be helping someone tackle rent arrears or navigate benefits, supporting them to understand their tenancy rights, working with a landlord or letting agent to resolve a housing issue, or connecting them with health, employment and community services. You’ll manage your own caseload and work predominantly in the community, including visiting clients in their homes and working closely with a range of partner agencies.

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity to make a tangible difference at the point where the right intervention can prevent someone from losing their home. You’ll join an experienced and supportive team, with access to regular supervision, reflective practice and opportunities to continue developing your knowledge and skills.

Please note the role sits within our Westminster Floating Support Team, but is based out of an SHP office in Vauxhall, Lambeth.

About you:

  • You are experienced in supporting people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity and/or multiple disadvantage, and know how to build trust while keeping support focused on the person’s own goals.
  • You understand the private rented sector and the pressures that can put a tenancy at risk, including rent arrears, benefits, debt, repairs and relationships with landlords or letting agents.
  • You are confident assessing risk, responding to safeguarding concerns and maintaining clear professional boundaries while supporting people to retain choice and control.
  • You are a strong communicator who can work collaboratively with clients, landlords, local authorities and other services, advocating when needed while helping people build their own confidence to navigate systems.
  • You are organised, adaptable and comfortable managing a varied caseload independently, with the ability to keep accurate records and balance competing priorities.

About us:

We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.

In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.

We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.

Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.

We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.
