ABOUT US
The Economist Educational Foundation is a fast-growing charity on a mission to ensure that every child is empowered to think critically and communicate effectively about the world’s most complex current issues.
In 2025-6 our core programme, Topical Talk, more than doubled its reach to over 1 million young people across 99 countries. We are at a time of great opportunity, in England and internationally, and have ambitious plans to keep growing and deepen our impact further.
Topical Talk helps children join inspiring discussions about the news by providing:
- Topical Talk Headlines – award-winning weekly lessons for classroom discussions about global news stories
- Leadership for Change Prize – child-led solutions to complex global issues
- Community partnerships – support and training for teachers via partnerships with Multi-Academy Trusts in the UK and School Districts in America
Our programme has received international recognition, including from HundrED as one of the top 100 education initiatives, from UNESCO as a winner of the Global Media and Information Literacy Awards 2022 and from the Money And Inclusion Awards (MAIA) for best content in 2025.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly organised, agile and structured Senior Programmes Manager to lead the operational planning, project management and execution of our flagship educational programmes. In this role, you will be the operational engine behind multiple cross-departmental projects, with a focus on meeting the needs of our global teachers and students, as well as funders.
In this fixed-term role you will work closely with our educational content leads, designers and external stakeholders to ensure our high-impact classroom resources and live events are delivered seamlessly, on time and to the highest standard. Rather than drafting the pedagogy yourself, you will manage the project lifecycles, coordinate workflow across internal and external teams and optimise the systems that allow our world-class educational programmes to reach over 1 million young people globally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project and operational management
- Manage the Topical Talk Leadership for Change Prize, Live Lessons, curriculum modules and student workshops end-to-end: from roadmaps and capacity mapping through to impact and evaluation
- Project manage the filming required for our content delivery, including the booking and management of experts, production teams and Economist colleagues
- Track and coordinate progress across content creators, graphic designers, proofreaders and editors to ensure all deliverables meet tight production deadlines
- Balance team workloads across concurrent educational projects and plan capacity for incoming projects
- Continuously refine workflow processes to streamline resource creation and evaluation
Programme governance and evaluation
- Partner with the Director of Programmes to track key performance indicators (KPIs), evaluate audience reach and maintain rigorous data collection for monitoring and evaluating our programmes
- Proactively identify bottlenecks, content risks or scheduling delays, implementing swift mitigation strategies to keep delivery on track
Live Lesson and workshop operations
- Manage the end-to-end operational execution of student workshops and our Live Lessons – handling scheduling, platform setups and logistics
- Coordinate school visits for content testing and observation, ensuring all safeguarding and operational requirements are fully met
Stakeholder and relationship coordination
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for external topic experts, guest contributors, and editorial contributors from The Economist Group
- Maintain clear lines of communication between the programmes team, marketing, operations and external partners to ensure projects are aligned with strategic aims
- Manage external freelance contractors and vendors, with support from the administrative officer
SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS
Whether you come from a project or educational management background or are a leader in charity operations, you possess the following:
- Outstanding ability to build, manage and maintain complex multi-phase project plans with precision and accountability
- A relentless eye for detail, operational rigor, and a knack for creating clean, efficient workflows out of complex tasks
- A proactive, self-starting mindset capable of foreseeing risks, resolving bottlenecks quickly and keeping cross-functional teams moving forward
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively coordinate across diverse stakeholders – from freelance producers and internal creative teams to senior editors and external experts
- A collaborative nature. You motivate project contributors, keep teams aligned and foster a supportive working environment
- Discipline with deadlines, whereby you act as a dependable anchor for the team, managing requests consistently
EXPERIENCE
You have…
- Proven project management experience where you have demonstrated success in managing content creation, publishing workflows or educational delivery pipelines from conception to completion
- Experience using project management and collaboration platforms to drive team accountability and workflow tracking
- A track record of coordinating multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. writers, designers, subject-matter experts) under tight production schedules
- Experience implementing monitoring, reporting and evaluation frameworks to track project success metrics and user engagement
- Practical experience running hybrid, in-person, or large-scale virtual workshops and webinars
You might have…
- Formal project management certifications or training

The opportunity:
This is a senior role with responsibility for the strategic direction, quality and impact of We Belong’s youth development portfolio. Reporting to the CEO and working as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead programmes spanning early intervention, educational attainment, further and higher education, employability, skills development, youth leadership and progression into positive opportunities.
You will oversee the Let Us Learn Programme, Emerging Young Leaders Programme, Schools Excellence Programme and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze programme. You will also strengthen young people’s influence within We Belong through the Core Group, ensuring that lived experience informs organisational priorities and programme development.
The Context:
Following the landmark Supreme Court judgment in the Tigere case, which helped secure fairer access to higher education for young migrants, We Belong has continued working to ensure that young people can progress into higher education. This has included successful campaigning to increase scholarship opportunities and building strong relationships with educational institutions across the UK.
However, more work is needed. Young migrants can experience significant barriers to educational attainment, further and higher education, employment and personal development because of their immigration status.
These barriers can arise long before a young person reaches the point of applying to university, beginning an apprenticeship or entering employment. We recognise that university is not the only pathway to success and that young people should be supported to explore a range of routes that reflect their ambitions, strengths and circumstances.
Early intervention is therefore essential to ensure that young migrants understand their rights, receive accurate information and appropriate support, and are able to make informed decisions about their education, training, employment and future.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people, supporting their development and creating pathways for them to achieve their ambitions.
If successful, the applicant will be joining an award-winning youth charity and a staff team dedicated to improving outcomes for young migrants between the ages of 16-25 years old and empowering young people to create change.
Please submit your application by sending your CV and a cover letter explaining how your experience and background make you suitable for this role. Applications submitted without both a CV and a cover letter will not be considered.

GoodWork is a youth employment and social mobility charity, creating fairer opportunities for young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Founded in 2022, we’re a fast-growing organisation with real impact and big ambitions to drive systemic change for the community we serve.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for a Programme Officer to join our team to support and manage the delivery of our programmes. You’ll report to our Senior Programme Officer and work closely with our programmes team to coordinate and deliver high-quality employability programmes, manage volunteers, and support our young people. This role is an opportunity to add both delivery capacity and complementary expertise to our team as we grow.
In the role, you’ll be working on:
- Programme Management.
- Once you’ve learned the ropes, you’ll move on to end-to-end management of programme delivery. This includes workshop development, supporting programme recruitment, operations and logistics, and working closely with volunteers and partners to ensure that programme delivery is impactful.
- You’ll start by supporting existing programmes team members and, over time, take on responsibility for leading on cohorts, while supporting colleagues with delivery across our programmes.
- You’ll need to be able to combine strong delivery with solid preparation behind the scenes, while thinking carefully about both participant experience and the operational detail needed to deliver high-quality programme activities.
- You’ll also help collect and interpret data, reflect on feedback, and contribute to improving our programmes over time.
- Volunteer Management.
- You’ll help recruit, onboard, and support our volunteers, ensuring timely communication and a positive experience for the assessors, mentors, and facilitators who work with us.
- You’ll help create a positive and engaging volunteer experience by building strong relationships with our volunteers through regular check-ins, community touch-points, and thoughtful communication.
- You’ll also support the coordination and administration involved in volunteer management, helping volunteers understand what’s needed and ensuring things run smoothly behind the scenes.
- Stakeholder Engagement.
- Your role will include stakeholder engagement at all levels, from scheduling volunteering days with corporate partners, to checking in with employer partners about how our young people are doing on their placements and supporting youth engagement and outreach.
- Support to Young People.
- A large part of your role is to provide direct support to young people through regular 1:1 check-ins, taking the time to get to know them and their goals so that you can signpost tailored support, opportunities, and resources.
- You’ll also use tools like email and Slack to keep young people informed, share opportunities and resources, and help build a sense of community throughout their time on the programme.
- You don’t need previous experience of helping young people navigate the jobs market, as we can support you to build your knowledge and understanding of best practice.
- Facilitation.
- You’ll design and deliver training for the young people on our programmes, as well as information sessions and training for our corporate partners and volunteers.
- We’re looking for someone who is confident facilitating sessions, or motivated to continue developing their facilitation skills, with support from the team.
Like any growing charity, our work is constantly evolving and this is a great opportunity to be part of shaping our organisation for the future. We’ll encourage you to share your feedback and suggestions regularly.
What we're looking for
We’re not necessarily looking for one particular professional background, and you don’t need to have a degree. However, we’d be especially interested in candidates who can bring relevant experience or strengths in areas that deepen our team’s existing offer, such as community outreach, volunteer management, programme management, or monitoring and evaluation.
This is not an entry-level role, and we are looking for someone who can bring some professional experience and apply sound judgement in a fast-moving environment.
- Organisation, proactivity and adaptability.
- We’re looking for someone with strong coordination and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work proactively.
- You’ll need to be comfortable managing multiple priorities at once, adapting as things change, and delivering to a high standard in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem solving.
- We’re looking for someone who can think creatively, solve problems, and respond positively when things don’t go to plan.
- Communication and facilitation.
- You’ll communicate with everyone from young people to corporate partners, so you’ll need strong written and verbal communication skills. As this role will involve providing feedback on CVs, job applications, and cover letters, strong written English and attention to detail are important.
- You should be comfortable facilitating sessions or feel motivated to build your confidence in this area.
- Relationship building.
- We’re looking for someone who is comfortable building relationships with a wide range of people (including partners and volunteers) and representing the organisation in a warm and professional way.
- We’d particularly value someone who can bring confidence or experience in external relationship-building and community outreach.
- Many of the young people we work with have experienced substantial barriers to work, education, or other areas of their lives. We’re looking for someone who can build trusting relationships with young people and who approaches others with empathy, warmth, and good judgement.
- Resilience and a growth mindset.
- Adaptability and perseverance are crucial to the success of the young people on our programme, and it’s important that our team models these behaviours too.
- We need someone who can operate well in uncertainty, learn as they go, and stay motivated through challenges.
- Commitment to our mission.
- You don’t need experience in the early careers, youth, or education sector. However, we do expect the successful candidate to show a clear understanding of and commitment to our mission, and a genuine desire to help drive our work forward.
We work with a diverse group of young people from underserved communities. We particularly encourage applications from minoritised ethnic candidates and those who have lived experience relevant to our programme, particularly non-graduates and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
