Job description

Who we are

Adoption UK is the leading charity providing support, community, and advocacy for all those parenting or supporting children who cannot live with their birth parents. Our vision is for an equal chance of a bright future for every child unable to live with their birth parents.

Connected offers monthly activity groups, digital sessions, one-to-one support and family days for adopted children and young people between 7 and 25 across Wales, to name just a few. The group offers a space for children and young people to come together with others who are adopted, to feel safe, be themselves, make connections and have fun.

What you’ll be doing

Working 18.5  hours a week (some evenings and 1 or 2 weekends a month) you will have an exciting opportunity to lead the development, delivery and promotion of Young People Service across North Wales, whilst also ensuring adopted young people and their families understand how to access the adoption support services available.

You will

  • Deliver in person monthly activity groups for adopted children and young people across the North Wales area and assist with facilitation of an online youth council.

  • Support with Family days

  • Lead on the processing of referrals and initial engagement with young people and their parents.

  • Deliver an annual programme of group sessions and activities.

  • Champion young people who wish to have their voices heard in national and regional forums

  • Gather outcomes and monitoring information to inform the development and promotion of the service and contribute to wider adoption support development.

Who you are

Having excellent communication skills, and the ability to relate to children and young people, you will,

  • Have a working knowledge of youth work principles and practice and be committed to delivering this service accordingly

  • Have experience of supporting children of primary school age up and young people in a group setting.

  • Have an understanding towards issues of concern for adopted children, young people and their families.

  • Be motivated and creative in engaging children and young people in the service.

  • Have good communication skills, including conversational Welsh, and engage with partners to deliver this service in true collaboration.

What we offer

The post is 18.5 hours a week, with a flexible working pattern and some evenings and weekends are required. Group sessions are held on Saturdays once a month

We offer generous annual leave which accumulates with service, Christmas Closure, Development Days, Enhanced Family Leave Policies and enhanced sick pay.

Adoption UK positively embraces flexible working recognising that employees may wish to balance work and family/home life. We are happy to discuss your circumstances at interview stage.

We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that celebrates and values diversity. We welcome your application whatever your background or situation. Under-representative groups such as ethnic minorities and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to build a career with us. We don’t want you to ‘fit’ our culture, we want you to enrich it.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect everyone working with us to share this commitment.

If you have a passion for making a difference and share in our vision for adoptive and kinship care families, we would love to hear from you.
