Senior Young Dads Worker (Neurodiverse)
About NEYDL
North East Young Dads and Lads (NEYDL) was founded in 2017 and has grown rapidly to become one of the UK’s most recognised organisations supporting young dads, men aged 25 and under in a fathering role. Our vision is for young dads to be valued and supported as parents. In 2024/25 we supported 217 young dads directly and achieved 100% satisfaction among the young dads we work with.
We are a non-judgmental organisation built on mutual trust, respect and honesty. Many of our staff are young dads themselves or have lived experience relevant to the communities we serve.
About this role
We use the term ‘young dads’ to refer to young dads, expectant dads and non-birthing partners aged 25 and under. This includes people within this age bracket who self-identify as father figures, including kinship carers and non-birthing partners.
We use the term ‘neurodiverse’ as an inclusive term covering young dads who are autistic, have ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other forms of neurodivergence, whether formally diagnosed, self-identified or awaiting assessment. We recognise that neurodivergent young dads can face additional barriers in accessing parenting support, including in how services are structured, communicated and delivered, and that these barriers are often compounded by stigma, exclusion or a lack of appropriate adjustment.
This is a dedicated role to ensure neurodivergent young dads can access the high quality support NEYDL offers, and that our wider service offer is genuinely accessible to them. You will provide direct, adapted support to neurodivergent young dads, while also building NEYDL’s organisational understanding of how to work effectively and inclusively with this group.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a motivated and experienced worker with a genuine understanding of neurodivergence and its impact on young fathers, and the ability to adapt support, communication and activities accordingly. You will be a confident networker, able to build relationships with both young dads and the services and organisations that support neurodivergent people across the North East.
We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of neurodivergence, either personally or as a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child, and from people with lived experience of young fatherhood.
What we offer
NEYDL is a close, inclusive and supportive team that actively invests in the development of its staff. We are a non-judgmental organisation built on mutual trust, respect and honesty. If you join us, you will be part of a team that genuinely believes in what it does.
In addition, we offer:
• 7.2 weeks’ annual leave per year (pro rata), inclusive of statutory and public holidays
• 5% employer pension contribution
• A flexible hybrid working arrangement
• Regular supervision and fortnightly team meetings
• Funded professional development and training
• Mileage paid at 55p per mile for business travel
How to apply
To apply, please send your CV (no more than four pages, including two references who can be contacted if successful) and either:
• A covering letter of no more than two sides of A4 (Arial, size 12)
• Or a video of no more than four minutes
In your application, please address:
• What excites you most about this role and how it connects to your skills and experience, bearing in mind the person specification
• What relevant lived experience you would bring to this role
• What experience of engaging with neurodivergent young people, families or communities you would bring to this role
Applications must be received by midnight, Sunday 16 August.
Shortlisting: 17 & 18 August. Interviews: Friday 21 August.
NEYDL is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from people with lived experience relevant to the communities we serve.
Job purpose
To grow DigiDAD's reach and impact by building relationships with professionals who can introduce the platform to young dads; showing those professionals how to use DigiDAD confidently with the young dads they support; and gathering feedback from professionals and young dads that informs ongoing improvement of the platform and NEYDL's outreach approach. This role works closely with the DigiDAD Programme Manager to support DigiDAD's growth, sharing feedback and helping to inform planning around outreach, platform and content development.
Hours - Full-time (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, with some evening and weekend working expected to meet the needs of the project
Location - Hybrid, home-based with regular travel to NEYDL’s Gateshead base and professional meetings in the North East, with some national travel

1. Professional outreach and relationships

•Identify and strategically prioritise the outreach opportunities most likely to lead to new registrations
•Represent DigiDAD at a small number of carefully selected events or conferences each year, where the audience is a strong match for DigiDAD’s goals
2. Onboarding and engagement
•Deliver onboarding sessions and demonstrations to professionals, showing them what DigiDAD offers and how to use it with the young dads they support
•Deliver and/or support regular webinars for current and prospective DigiDAD users, covering both professional and young dad audiences as needed
•Support professionals through the registration and onboarding process, and help them confidently introduce DigiDAD to the young dads they work with

3. Feedback and evaluation
•Hold structured conversations with young dads who use DigiDAD to gather feedback on content, design and user experience
•Gather feedback on outreach materials and messaging, and share insights with the DigiDAD Programme Manager to inform evaluation, reporting and improvements
4. Working with the Business Development Manager
•Maintain regular contact with NEYDL’s Business Development Manager, including a simple shared tracker to record and follow up leads
•Refer any commissioning or training sales opportunities identified through DigiDAD outreach to the Business Development Manager
•Follow up DigiDAD-interested contacts referred by the Business Development Manager
5. Recording and reporting
•Record outreach activity and registration data accurately and in a timely way, in line with NEYDL’s data management and evaluation systems
•Contribute ideas for campaign activity, content and service development based on direct engagement with users and professionals
6. Standard clauses
•The post holder must carry out their responsibilities at all times with due regard to NEYDL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, policy and statement, and Safeguarding Policy
•The post holder is responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures relating to health and safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times
•The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means, in line with NEYDL’s Data Protection Policy
•This role requires satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance prior to appointment
This job description is not exhaustive. NEYDL reserves the right to reasonably add to or revise it at any time in agreement with the post holder.
Future opportunity: there is potential for this role to develop a training product for professionals on making the best use of DigiDAD. There are no immediate plans for this, but it may form part of the role’s future development.

We’re dedicated to raising aspirations and creating opportunities for young people, especially those facing disadvantage, through exciting activities, outreach, and outdoor adventures. Our approach champions youth voice, inclusion, and building confidence and resilience. We offer outdoor education, including residentials at our own Ormside Mill site in Cumbria and other sites nationwide.

Working closely with the Centre Manager, the postholder coordinates sessions, leads delivery in practice, and provides guidance and support to youth workers during activities.
This is a hands-on practice leadership role, combining direct youth work with responsibility for session planning, staff co-ordination during delivery, pastoral support, and contribution to residentials and projects. In the absence of the Centre Manager, the Youth Work Co-ordinator acts as the senior on site lead for day-to-day centre operations and youth work delivery, while not holding line management or strategic authority. Team Co-ordination and In Session Support
- Co-ordinate and support youth workers and volunteers during sessions, providing clear guidance and practical leadership.
- Deliver session-based briefings and debriefings, ensuring staff are clear on expectations, roles, safeguarding responsibilities, and session focus, and that key information, incidents, and outcomes are accurately recorded and handed over when the Centre Manager is not on site.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and reflective support to staff to strengthen practice and confidence.
- Support the Centre Manager with staff development and performance processes through practice-based feedback and reflective support during delivery, where required.
Safety, Safeguarding and Inclusion
- Act as a key operational safeguarding contact on site, supporting the Centre Manager and following GMYF safeguarding procedures.
- Record, report, and escalate safeguarding concerns promptly and accurately.

- Provide in-session pastoral support by shaping the environment and staff responses so young people feel safe, included and able to participate, using restorative and de-escalation approaches to support wellbeing and relationships.

- Work with external agencies and partners to support young people’s needs where appropriate.
Centre Operations and Activities Support
- Support the Centre Manager with daily site checks, risk assessments, and health and safety requirements, escalating issues as required.

- Work collaboratively with Youth Work Co-ordinators and teams across GMYF centres to support consistency of youth work practice, coordinate provision linked to forecasted activity, residentials, and external events, and contribute to shared learning and best practice.
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes, including funding and quality frameworks.
- Support the centre’s self-evaluation and continuous improvement processes.

Safer Recruitment
Depaul UK is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If a role requires it under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, we will carry out the appropriate Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. We only look at information that is relevant to the role, and a criminal record will never be treated as an automatic barrier to employment. All DBS information is handled sensitively, confidentially and in line with the DBS Code of Practice, and we encourage applicants to discuss any concerns with us openly.
About Depaul UK
In the 1980s, high unemployment and steep inflation was contributing to a shocking rise in youth homelessness across London. Thousands of young people were sleeping rough every night, with many areas notoriously dubbed “cardboard cities” due to the visible rise in street homelessness. Appalled by the scenes playing out across the capital, a group of people came together to tackle the challenge head on. Led by Cardinal Basil Hume and Mark McGreevy OBE, in 1989 Depaul UK was born.
What began as a single housing project in North London soon expanded across London, Greater Manchester and the North East of England. Today, Depaul UK provides accommodation, prevention and support services to thousands of marginalised young people across the UK each year.
As our name suggests, the work of Depaul UK has been inspired by St. Vincent de Paul – a man who devoted his life to helping vast numbers of people throughout the 17th century. St. Vincent de Paul’s belief in the intrinsic worth of all people and his commitment to taking bold action remain central to our values today. Depaul UK now forms part of a family of Depaul charities around the world. We each focus on the specific challenges in our own countries, but we’re united by our shared values and mission to end homelessness.
Please note this role is advertised by the recruitment agency acting for the client – Not For Profit People.
