Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the Senior Leadership team, the Director of Finance and Operations post is a key role within WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation.  Responsible for providing strategic leadership across finance and operational functions, the post holder will ensure WDC has the resources to deliver our mission, ensure WDC meets reporting and governance standards and ensure timely and efficient reporting to all levels of WDC employees, trustees and relevant external bodies and will ensure resources are deployed to maximise operational benefit.  Alongside this, this new position will lead core operational functions of Supporter Services (including leadership of the CRM), facilities and IT.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To support programme-level financial accounting, grant stewardship, reporting and oversight-ensuring accurate reconciliations, cost recovery, budgeting, forecasting, donor reporting, and risk management, while acting as a proactive business partner to drive informed decision-making and value for money. This role will also support the Financial Reporting & Systems Manager in delivering accurate internal reporting and ensuring finance systems meet organisational needs.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The successful candidate must have experience of supporting financial process related to donor reporting and project accounting across a diverse portfolio of projects and possess the confidence and collaborative skills to work effectively with senior management.

The successful candidate must be able to combine technical expertise with strong business partnering skills to support decisions that improve organisation efficiency, protect organisational sustainability, and build confidence in colleagues across the organisation.

The candidate must also have experience of project accounting and charitable donor reporting. Knowledge and experience of inventory accounting would be highly regarded, as would exposure to the management or implementation of a project accounting finance system.

MAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strengthening financial knowledge and confidence with budget holders through coaching, training programmes and partnership-based support.

• Working collaboratively across the Finance team to design intuitive reports and analysis that meet the needs of colleagues across the organisation.

• Contributing to stronger processes and tools, providing clarity around performance, and acting as a trusted advisor to both finance and non-finance colleagues.

• Support the shaping of financial information guidelines for programme delivery, which informs board-level decisions, and supports organisational strategy.

• Collaborating with the Financial Reporting & Systems Manager to improve reporting tools and ensure finance systems support programme and organisational requirements.

Programme Finance Partnership & Advisory

• Support programme managers by providing financial insight and challenge to improve decision-making.

• Assist with monthly project portfolio reporting and forecasting, ensuring accuracy and actionable analysis.

• Interpret donor requirements and help ensure compliance across assigned projects and grants.

• Advise programme teams on best practice donor reporting and project accounting protocols.

Budgeting, Reporting & Compliance

• Assist in development and maintenance of reports and systems that enable effective financial management of projects.

• Support donor financial reporting, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and compliance.

• Contribute to the development and usage of project budgeting templates; provide guidance to programme teams.

• Collaborate with finance systems and other colleagues to ensure systems meet programme finance needs, especially for project accounting and donor reporting.

• Support Fundraising department on income projection and integration in project funding gap.

• Assist the Financial Reporting & Systems Manager with preparation and review of departmental budgets, forecasts, and input relevant information for the monthly management accounts.

• Support administration and optimisation of finance systems to meet reporting needs.

Grant & Partner Management

• Assist programme teams with partner due diligence assessments related to project delivery.

• Attend programme coordination meetings providing adequate intelligence on project financial status.

• Support financial management of partner grants, including payment facilitation and compliance checks.

• Review partner financial reports and ensure alignment with donor requirements.

Controls & Oversight

• Monitor project-level financial performance, highlighting risks and variances.

• Monthly reconciliation of funding forecast, ensuring that income received are recognised when due.

• Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and donor compliance.

• Review departmental budgets with relevant budget holders.

Other responsibilities

• Participate in cross-functional projects as required.

As Finance and Operations Manager at Fight Bladder Cancer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and building our finance and operational functions at a strategic level.

You will support all aspects of the charity’s work and development through the provision of strong financial assistance - ensuring accurate financial reporting, sales and other invoicing, bookkeeping, grant management and payroll management.

You will also take day-to-day responsibility for organisational administration. 

This role will involve close collaboration with our small team (currently 7.5 FTE) to ensure our day-to-day finance and operational requirements are met, working closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to build greater financial resilience and strategic financial awareness within the charity.

The opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Finance and Resources to help ensure the Trust is financially strong, operationally effective, and strategically equipped to deliver maximum impact for people with cystic fibrosis.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be a key strategic partner to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees. With oversight of a £15m budget, you will lead a multidisciplinary directorate encompassing Finance, IT and digital transformation, People and Organisation Development, Strategy and Business Intelligence, Facilities, and Company Secretariat functions.

Your leadership will enable the Trust to:

Responsibilities ​
Financial Leadership and Strategy ​

• Lead and deliver the financial strategy for Belgrade Theatre to ensure long term financial sustainability. ​
• Support the COO in shaping financial planning and risk management. ​
• Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow plans aligned with strategic priorities. ​
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support organisational decision making and business planning. ​
• Deputise for the COO when required. ​

Financial Operations and Systems Optimisation ​

• Oversee and continuously improve financial processes and systems​
• Work with external contractors and internal teams to support integration projects between EPOS, CRM, and accounting systems, reducing manual processing and improving data accuracy. ​
• Proactively identify opportunities for further automation, system improvements, and app integrations that enhance control, reduce costs, or increase capacity. ​
• Ensure efficient month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and reporting. ​
• Maintain oversight of ledgers, payroll, VAT and banking arrangements. ​
• Ensure compliance and accuracy in grant and restricted fund accounting. ​

Reporting and Analysis ​

• Produce monthly management accounts for the COO and work with the COO to produce quarterly reports for the Finance Committee and Trustee Board meetings. 
• Report on performance against budget, forecast, and prior year, including cash flow and balance sheet commentary. ​
• Provide clear and concise analysis and recommendations to support decision making. ​
• Oversee preparation of detailed project and grant reports for funders and assist the development team with the financial aspects of fundraising bids. 

Governance, Compliance, and Risk 

• Manage the audit process, ensuring delivery of compliant and timely statutory accounts in line with Charity SORP and Companies Act requirements. ​
• Act as key point of contact for external auditors, HMRC, and other regulatory bodies. ​
• Work with senior colleagues to ensure appropriate financial controls, risk management, and business continuity plans are in place. ​
• Maintain awareness of developments in charity finance legislation and best practice.​

Leadership and Team Development ​

• Line manage and develop the finance team.​
• Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development, building a collaborative and accountable team culture. ​
• Work closely with colleagues across departments to improve financial literacy and promote robust financial management across the organization​

General ​

What We Are Looking For

EXPERIENCE​

Essential:​

• Significant, proven experience in a senior finance role, including both strategic and hands-on delivery (qualified accountant ACA, ACCA, CIMA). ​
• Experience working with modern cloud-based accounting systems. ​
• Proven ability to design and embed effective financial controls and processes. ​
• Experience producing management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports. ​
• Experience liaising with auditors and preparing consolidated statutory accounts under Charity SORP. ​
• Strong financial and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail. ​

• The Belgrade operates a House Agreement based on the UK Theatre (formerly TMA)/BECTU (Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union) Agreement and its Staff Handbook outlines the terms on sick pay, maternity leave and pay, paternity leave and pay, grievance and discipline and other relevant staff matters​
• Employees’ health and safety is of paramount importance, and Management insists that an employee obtains written express permission to take on any paid work or other employment during periods of TOIL (Time Off In Lieu) or holiday. No permission will be given for the first 28 days of holiday as this is a statutory requirement​
• On appointment the successful candidate must be able to provide the correct documents as proof of their right to work in the UK.​
• The candidate’s contract of employment with the Belgrade Theatre does not come into force until the first day of work​
• Staff are entitled to tickets for shows at the Belgrade Theatre, subject to particular conditions and 10% discount at the Theatre’s Café and Bar

The Head of Finance is a full-time, on-site/hybrid role based at Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. The role will lead robust financial governance, reporting and risk management frameworks that ensure probity, transparency and compliance, while enabling confident, informed decision-making. You will be responsible for developing and reporting financial KPIs and cashflow forecasts, supporting managers to understand performance and implement improvement plans where required.

Reporting into the senior finance leadership, you will act as a trusted partner to budget holders across the organisation, leading on budgeting, forecasting and management reporting for your areas of responsibility. You will deliver clear financial analysis, support effective resource planning, and ensure robust financial controls and compliance with funding requirements.

Working closely with senior stakeholders and teams based both in the UK and internationally, you will help ensure that financial information is meaningful, accessible and supports organisational strategy. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of financial processes, tools and reporting, helping to strengthen financial capability across the organisation.

As part of a collaborative and values-led finance team, this role offers real scope to influence how financial insight supports programme delivery, organisational performance and long-term sustainability.

Key Priorities in the First Six Months

• Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles for designated departments
• Produce timely and accurate management accounts with clear commentary and analysis
• Partner with budget holders to understand financial performance, risks and variances
• Oversee funder reporting and ensure compliance with funding and contractual requirements
• Support multi-year financial planning and performance tracking
• Contribute to improvements in financial reporting, modelling and accounting processes
• Build financial capability among non-finance colleagues

About You

You will be a qualified or qualified-by-experience accountant with strong experience in finance business partnering or management accounting, ideally within a charitable, not-for-profit, or grant-funded environment.

You will bring:

• Proven experience delivering budgets, forecasts and management accounts
• Understanding of externally funded projects, including reporting and compliance
• The ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-finance audiences
• Experience working with multi-currency and/or multi-entity environments
• Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail
• A collaborative, proactive approach with the confidence to support and challenge senior stakeholders

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you’ll be responsible for the charity’s day-to-day financial and operational management. You’ll lead and develop a dedicated team, oversee robust financial processes, and play a key role in improving systems — including contributing to the implementation of a new fundraising database that will support sustainable income generation.

This is a part-time, primarily office-based role offering a varied and hands-on remit, combining financial leadership with operational oversight and the opportunity to shape how the organisation works as we grow. For the right person, there is scope to take on additional responsibilities and progress within the organisation over time.

We’re looking for someone with strong financial expertise, excellent organisational and IT skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues across the charity. Talking Money is looking for someone with a deep understanding of charity finance who can provide robust financial management for the charity. You will manage all Talking Money finances, from banking, invoicing, and payments to end-of-year reporting and funding management. You will also have a strategic overview of our organisational finances, and work closely with our Chief Executive and Board of Trustees on Talking Money’s financial planning.

Importantly, you will be passionate about and be able to work at a strategic level, providing support and guidance to the Leadership Team whilst also working flexibly within a small organisation taking care of all day-to-day finance tasks.

Hours: 15 hours a week (0.4 FTE). The postholder may be required to work additional hours at certain key points in the accounting year cycle to complete end-of-year statutory accounts preparation and occasionally attend meetings out of office hours.

Contract term: Permanent

Location: Hybrid working negotiable but some time in office is required to keep in touch with the team - team sessions are currently Thursdays.

Salary: Grade 6 SCP 25-28 (approx. £36,000 - £39,000 for FY26-27)

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Holiday entitlement: 25 days FTE pro rata (rising to 30 days after 5 years) + bank holidays.

About the role
We are excited to be recruiting a Finance Coordinator to support the Finance team to fulfil day-to-day objectives and help the wider organisation to deliver the goals set out in Join the Club 2021-2026 and beyond.

The Finance Coordinator position will report to the Finance Manager. The role will manage a varied workload that includes checking and approving expenses, bank reconciliations, purchase invoices, maintaining purchase orders, support credit control, managing the Finance inbox and phone, responding to staff and supplier queries and supporting the Finance team with the departmental targets. The role requires an enthusiastic individual with an eye for detail and good interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will champion the charity’s values and embody them in interactions with colleagues and external stakeholders. To ensure excellent working relationships are maintained, they will be effective communicators with staff and external stakeholders. They will continually improve in their areas of responsibility, looking at how the Finance department can be more efficient and implementing new ideas. They will be positive and proactive, with a commitment to delivering excellent standards.

While this role can be based in our London or Leeds offices, some travel will be required to London for events and to attend in-person meetings.
