Job Title: Compost Coordinator

Responsible to: Community Delivery & Development Lead

Hours of Work: 2 days or 10 hours a week

Location: Flexible working will be required across evenings and weekends Our Compost sites and main office; Hay Hall, Tyseley All Saints Church, Omnia Medical Practice

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract

Salary: Circa £7,000

Compost Culture is a five-year project taking place in Birmingham, supported by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund (NLCAF) and led by Incredible Surplus, that seeks to change the narrative on compost and support behaviour change, following a two- year initial project. This project will involve practical compost and growing initiatives alongside creative media and storytelling to show the relevance and importance of compost in how society moves forward. The project will build a resilient, self-sustaining network of composting and growing activity across Birmingham. It will inspire and support individuals, community groups, organisations and businesses to try composting and embed it as part of their daily activity and press the local authority and other agencies to support hyper-local composting as a valuable element of food waste management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop a “Compost Village” approach across project sites by building strong relationships with households, community organisations, churches, local groups and schools.
• Facilitate community knowledge-sharing around composting, soil health, waste reduction, and the role composting plays in climate action and local sustainability.
• Support the development of local composting loops, encouraging communities to reuse organic materials effectively and reduce waste.
• Deliver a strong schools-focused programme, including educating pupils and school staff on composting, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility.
• Support the installation and ongoing use of Ridan composting systems within schools alongside other composting methods appropriate to each setting.
• Work collaboratively across project delivery, supporting wider engagement activities and site-based practical work. 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• A genuine passion for nature, sustainability, composting, and environmental education.
• Basic understanding of soil health, composting processes, growth cycles, and the organisms that support healthy ecosystems.
• Interest in biodiversity, wildlife, and “mini beasts” that contribute to healthy soil systems.
• Confident communicator with the ability to engage positively with schools, community groups, and volunteers.
• Good level of physical fitness, with the ability to undertake practical outdoor work while following safe lifting and manual handling guidelines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small delivery team.

Desirable:



• Experience working with schools, young people, or community engagement projects.
• Experience in composting, horticulture, environmental projects, or outdoor education.
• Knowledge of climate action, circular economy principles, or community sustainability initiatives.

Head of Media Relations

Upto £55,000 per annum

Homebased with easy access to our Newark Office

This role is predominantly home-based with regular travel to locations across the UK. Office facilities are available at our Newark office (Tuesdays to Thursdays) for those within easy travelling distance. There is a requirement to attend in-person the monthly team meeting at the Newark office.

We create compelling, authoritative stories for broadcast, print and online national media outlets and generate billions of opportunities each year for people to see, hear and read about The Wildlife Trusts’ important work to restore wildlife and reconnect people with nature. Our work spans a wide and ambitious agenda. We respond to and comment on Government policy, we champion bold solutions for nature’s recovery, and we spotlight the impact of our work across issues as varied as peatland restoration, nature for mental health, and whale and dolphin conservation. You are an experienced and credible media professional with a track record of leading and supporting high-performing teams in a fast paced, high-profile environment.

You will have demonstrable expert knowledge of the media landscape, with a wide network of trusted media relationships that you use thoughtfully and effectively to achieve impact. You are equally confident developing and placing softer news stories as you are managing complex or high-stakes situations, exercising sound judgement and acting decisively when it matters most.

You will have substantial experience of reputation management, including advising senior leaders and stakeholders on sensitive or contentious issues. An understanding of the issues affecting UK wildlife and nature recovery is highly desirable, alongside a commitment to using the power of media to inform, engage and drive positive change

Role Purpose

This new role within the Advice & Training team will support the development, coordination, and growth of the organisation’s training provision. We are proud to be a respected and trusted source of information for our members and international students, and the work undertaken by this role will seek to strengthen these relationships.

You will be responsible for the recruitment and administration of freelance trainers to work alongside the Advice & Training team in developing and delivering world-class training. You will play a key role in identifying trends in the needs of our membership and international students, contributing to the direction and growth of our training output. You should be able to convey UKCISA’s values and methods to potential freelance trainers and embed processes to ensure quality assurance of any training output.

Engaging with diverse stakeholders, negotiation, and being able to represent UKCISA with integrity and passion should be in your repertoire of excellent communication skills. You are confident in your administrative skills and will lead on writing and standardising contracts for and establishing workflows for new freelance trainers. The role will involve different strands of work, and so you will be required to balance concurrent tasks confidently, seeking advice and guidance where needed. You will work towards and seek to surpass targets and be willing to proactively assess and review those targets as you progress in the role. You will have an initiative-taking approach and make recommendations for the direction of targets and key performance indicators to the Advice Officer and Training Lead as you progress in the role.

In your first few months, you will have:

• Developed good working relationships with UKCISA’s wider team.
• Analysed our current training offer and begun to identify opportunities for growth.
• Begun to identify and recruit freelance trainers.
• Scoped out how quality assurance processes between freelance trainers and the Advice & Training team can be implemented.

Core responsibilities

Training recruitment and administration

• Recruitment of freelance trainers to broaden the capacity of UKCISA’s training provision.
• Writing, standardising, and administering, standardising contracts for freelance training staff in conjunction with Finance and HR.
• Liaison with the Finance team to standardise invoicing procedures for freelance training staff.
• Key liaison point between existing and new freelance trainers and UKCISA staff.

Analysis and trend mapping

• Seek to identify gaps in UKCISA’s training offer and the delivery of new services to meet those unmet needs.
• Expanding UKCISA’s offer of new training opportunities, including relating to Student Sponsor compliance, to ensure members have the technical knowledge and support needed to carry out their roles and responsibilities towards international students.
• Collaborate with freelancers and in-house staff to develop training content, in line with UKCISA quality and expectations as the UK’s main provider of training relating to supporting international students.
• Gain a deep understanding of current core training to ensure seamless integration of new courses to support learning journey of members.
• Support the Advice Officer and Training Lead in responding to trends, identifying potential improvements to the training workflow, and supporting UKCISA trainers.

Quality assurance

• Working with UKCISA’s in-house trainers to establish and embed processes to ensure quality assurance of freelance delivery and the delivery of course aims and objectives.
• Collaborate with current freelance trainers and newly recruited trainers to establish robust quality assurance processes with the Advice & Training team.
• Facilitate and monitor quality assurance of UKCISA training output.
• Coordinate the production of resources to inform and support UKCISA trainers to ensure consistent delivery in line with UKCISA values and expectations.
• Monitor the effectiveness of new training and adapt as appropriate.

Key criteria

Essential

• Excellent communication skills with a focus on negotiation, interpersonal skills, and clarity.
• Ability to form excellent relationships with diverse groups.
• Ability to plan, strategise, and deliver against key performance indicators.
• A proactive approach to seeking improvements in workflows and identifying opportunities to broaden our training output.

• Confidence to lead on contract administration for freelance trainers.

• Proficient in SharePoint and other cloud-based Microsoft apps
• Experience supporting the delivery or coordination of training and/or events.
• A commitment to UKCISA’s vision and mission; representing and communicating these to external stakeholders.

• Project management experience or qualifications.
• Student route/Tier 4 compliance experience.
• Previous experience working in a charity or membership organisation
• Previous experience working with international students in the UK.
• Experience working with CRM systems (ideally MS Dynamics).

The role

The post holder will work alongside our Co-Executive Director, Head of Legal and Legal Administrator in developing and managing Foxglove’s legal work. You will develop and drive forward a significant number and range of cases, including the development of case theories, investigating and collecting evidence, drafting correspondence, evidence and submissions. You will also be responsible for coordinating and managing external legal teams, in multiple jurisdictions. This will require you to have the comfort and ability to navigate diverse settings, while also having the insight to weigh up the benefits and challenges of pursuing cases in different jurisdictions. You will serve as an external representative for Foxglove’s work, writing and speaking on topics of relevance. You will also be a sparring partner for others in the team, bringing a creative mindset and political savviness. UK and international travel are required. Flexibility with working hours will sometimes be needed.

Person Specification

Essential

• Substantial experience in legal practice and conducting litigation and a demonstrated understanding of litigation strategies.
• Creative thinking and imagination.
• A strong interest in using the law to hold governments and companies to account.
• Qualified lawyer in any jurisdiction with at least 10 years of legal experience.
• Significant experience in legal practice in the UK.  
• Demonstrable commitment to supporting marginalised communities to access justice.

• Good political antennae and excellent relationship building and management skills.
• Experience conducting cases from initial advice through to trial.

Length and Salary

The role is permanent. The annual salary is £88,400 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

Our team works remotely, and this role can be based anywhere. We would prefer you to work within or close to UK office hours, but this is flexible. Our team travels every two months for team days and twice a year for team retreats. This role will include significant UK and international travel. Only candidates with the right to work in their location will be considered.

This city is home to people whose everyday experience can be one of rejection and helplessness or who come from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds where they have no friend who can share the gospel or take them to church. Our vision is to see both churches and individuals equipped and empowered to reach the communities around them. This means equipping and mobilising churches to be more intentional and effective in their mission.

In the Mission Catalyst role, you will work as part of our teams to:

• Collaborate with and equip churches in evangelism to those who are marginalised or least likely to hear the gospel in their local area
• Contribute to the development of sustainable, structured, innovative missional teams in local churches
• Do mission research and mapping of the mission needs and opportunities in a local area
• Contribute to networking with churches in a local area by, for example, building a list of churches and connecting them with the right LCM colleagues with a view to mission partnership.

All Mission Catalysts will join us for an initial Activation Year. In this year our professional and established internal training team and your line manager and others, will train, develop and support you in your role so that you develop your own missional skills and evangelism experience. An onward and permanent career pathway at London City Mission will be available to you as you come to the end of the Activation Year, for you to continue your work in mobilising churches for mission and receive further training and development.

The successful candidates will minister in – but not restricted to - the following locations:

• Harrow and North Brent team with a specialist focus on Diaspora churches and groups and an interest in Islam and Other Religions. We are seeking someone whose passion and experience is oriented towards engaging with Hindu communities.
• Lambeth and Wandsworth team with a specialist focus on Children, Youth and Schools. We are seeking someone with a passion for schools ministry and the patience to build relationships in this setting.
• Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest team with a specialist focus on Islam and Other Religions. We are seeking someone with cross‑cultural mission experience, particularly in working with South Asian communities or other faith contexts.

You would be joining LCM at an exciting time as we take forward our new five-year strategy. Our aim over the next five years is to see 150 new missional teams established in churches across London. These missional teams are groups of church members who “own” outreach to a particular group, are recognised by the leadership, and pray for each other, using their varied gifts regularly to minister to that group. We pray that, together by 2029, these teams will be part of 25,000 gospel conversations within communities where Jesus Christ isn't known.

Our Mission Catalysts are wholly committed followers of Jesus who bring their passion and skills to contribute to the work of our teams, helping to research the mission needs of an area, supporting networking with churches, helping to train and equip church volunteers in practical evangelism, or helping churches develop their mission work. Successful candidates will be able to prove their ability to contribute to our field teams in these ways.

There is an occupational requirement that the people appointed to these roles will be evangelical Christians. The Occupational Requirement provision of the Equality Act 2010 applies. The appointed candidates will be required to undertake a DBS check.

This role is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one year with the opportunity for progression into a permanent role within the first year.

This is a varied and fast-paced role for an outstanding Senior Press Officer. The successful applicant will be fluent in English and Spanish, with a proven track record of impactful journalism and/or securing high-level media coverage as part of a press office.

We are looking for someone with a passion for our work and the drive, experience and skills to build our audiences, raise the profile of our campaigns and get our perspectives in front of key decision-makers. This role would suit someone who would look forward every day to placing impactful stories which drive real-world progress for a more sustainable planet.

You will have a demonstrable ability to understand our audiences and develop communications strategies to reach them. You will enjoy meeting and briefing journalists, enthusiastically reaching out to 'sell' our key stories. You will gain significant media coverage for EJF’s messages in key, influential international media outlets such as the Financial Times, New York Times and El País.

The successful candidate will work independently to ensure a steady flow of high-quality press outreach, as well as pitching and writing articles and op-eds to promote our perspectives. You will know which outlets key political decision-makers read, and how to place material with them.

You will be an outstanding writer, and possess superb adaptability and inventiveness to respond to a rapidly changing policy landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement integrated communication plans and campaigns to support EJF’s campaigns around the world

• Ensure impactful and consistent coverage of our campaigns, and the issues they cover, in high-profile ‘gatekeepered’ media outlets

• Prepare press releases and media packs for report launches and external developments, ensuring both proactive and reactive coverage

• Respond swiftly to media enquiries

• Research and actively engage media contacts and outlets, remotely and in person, to increase EJF’s reach, building a database to record and evaluate this outreach

• Work with our communications team around the world to develop coordinated media strategies across geographies and languages

• Evaluate and report on our press performance, making recommendations for ongoing improvement

• Create engaging and impactful content for our various communication channels. This includes writing op-eds and blog articles on core EJF campaign areas

• Uphold the highest standards of scientifically rigorous but engaging writing at all times

• Host press briefings at events with external stakeholders

Essential skills and attributes

• Professional fluency (including excellent writing and editing skills) in English and Spanish

• At least 3 years of experience working in communications, a press office, journalism or similar, with a particular focus on placing stories with, or writing for, high-level traditional media outlets

• Knowledge of media relations, developing communication materials, writing content for different channels and developing social media campaigns

• Experience of and confidence in dealing with journalists from different types of media to ensure effective coverage

• An effective knowledge of the media outlets read by political decision-makers internationally, and how to place articles in them

• Excellent copywriting skills, including under time pressure, and the ability to identify a good story, linking current affairs to EJF campaigns

• An exceptional level of creativity and drive to seek out new opportunities to promote EJF’s work

• Outstanding attention to detail and factual accuracy

• Reliable, determined, self-motivated, resourceful and able to work effectively with a small, dynamic, and international team
