The Role

The Head of Income Generation will play a critical role in bringing this mission to life through compelling storytelling, strategic relationship-building, and entrepreneurial fundraising. You’ll create a powerful case for support that inspires existing and prospective funders, while identifying new avenues for growth across trusts and foundations, major donors, and corporate partnerships. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a 3-year fundraising strategy focused on securing sustainable funding and diversifying income streams

Person Specification

• Proven track record of developing and delivering successful fundraising strategies that drive sustainable income growth across high value fundraising streams
• Demonstrable experience securing and managing trust and foundation funding
• Experience working with other high value supporters such as major donors and corporate partners

This Senior Philanthropy Manager (Trusts & Foundations) role will be responsible for securing and stewarding significant philanthropic gifts working in partnership with senior stakeholders of the University. They will use their fundraising experience and communication skills to secure philanthropic gifts at the £50k to £5mil level from Trusts & Foundations (T&Fs), working in partnership with senior stakeholders on their fundraising efforts, and championing the work and priorities of King’s College London.

The postholder will help to enable the University to deliver world-leading research, education, and societal impact, translating complex academic priorities into compelling funding opportunities for T&Fs in the UK and internationally. They will be part of a team playing a crucial role in the delivery of the University’s ambition to significantly scale philanthropy income, as we prepare to launch our next major fundraising campaign in 2027 and mark the university’s bicentenary in 2029.

The successful candidate will lead on cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of high value T&F prospects and donors, developing long term, strategic relationships that result in philanthropic gifts. Working in close partnership with senior academic and clinical leaders, you will shape and articulate funding propositions that resonate with philanthropic partners and align with King’s institutional and campaign priorities.

Responsibilities include identifying and cultivating new prospects; developing engagement plans; leading on the development of funding proposals; and stewardship of existing donors. This role will suit candidates with experience in raising five and six figure gifts from Trusts and Foundations.

Key Responsibilities

• Actively manage a portfolio of T&F prospects (£50,000+ gift capacity) on behalf of the University
• Ensure that effective cultivation strategies are in place to grow the donor community to KCL’s Faculties and the wider University
• Hold regular face-to-face/virtual donor visits and bring prospects/donors closer to the organisation through meaningful engagement
• Meet an annually agreed set of fundraising KPIs (including number of donor engagements/visits, number of asks made/proposals submitted, and income generated)

• Work collaboratively across Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement in particular with the wider philanthropy team. Work closely with prospect research, advancement writing, events, alumni relations, donor relations and gift implementation teams to develop and enhance philanthropic fundraising opportunities
• Accurately record prospect information in the fundraising database

Who are The Outrunners?

The Outrunners are a running and movement charity based in Hackney, on a mission to empower young people through movement. Backed by an incredible crew of volunteers and partner brands like Nike and Moju, we help young people in East London to build confidence, wellbeing, health and leadership skills.

We deliver free, fun, sociable, youth‑led running and movement sessions for 8–18 year olds every week - during term time and holidays. But we’re about more than just running. We create space for young people to explore creativity and culture, go on exciting trips, access wraparound wellbeing support, and develop the skills and opportunities they need to shape the futures they want.

Over the past five years, we’ve supported thousands of young people and helped push greater diversity within the running world.

Our achievements

We’re a small charity but we pack a mighty punch. Our income has grown year-on-year since we became a charity 6 years ago -  allowing us to expand our core team and move into office premises large enough to incorporate a Youth Hub. Last year we worked with over 1,150 young people through our school and communities programs, and this year we’re looking to expand our work even further!

To give you a sense of the kinds of work that we do, over the last year we have:

• Hosted a free Girls’ Festival for 100+ ethnically diverse young girls, allowing them to try running sessions, creative classes and yoga experiences in a safe and empowering environment.

• Hosted free training academies for ethnically diverse women and young people aged 16-21 to train for their very first half or full marathons! We offered physical, emotional and logistical support throughout their training journey and cheered on every single one of them as they ran either the Hackney Half or the London Marathon under the Outrunners name. Since programme launch, we have worked with over 250 people in our Academies.

• Took diverse groups of young people to races and events, such as Hackney School run and Black to the Trails. 

• Offered personalised mentoring to several of our young people who were struggling with school or life.

• Expanded the career horizons of young people by offering them a free work experience opportunity with our partner brands.

What do we want?

We are seeking an experienced fundraiser for a strategic and hands-on role who loves working in a small, ambitious charity and wants to help shape the next stage of growth at The Outrunners (current annual income circa £350k).

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead on income generation, with a primary focus on trusts and foundations, while growing a more diverse and sustainable income mix through corporate partnerships, community fundraising and individual giving.

• Shape clear and inspiring partnership pitches with cases for support that connect partner goals with youth wellbeing, movement and equity.

4. Community & Individual Giving (Growth area)

• Support the growth of The Outrunners’ individual giving base, including regular and mid‑level donors, working with CEO and Admin Lead.

• Develop donor stewardship approaches that support repeat and long‑term giving.

• Explore opportunities with local communities, supporter networks and high‑net‑worth individuals.

5. Impact, Systems & Compliance

• Work with our Admin Lead to maintain accurate records across fundraising and income tracking systems (CRM).

• Contribute fundraising content across our website, donor platforms and communications channels, working closely with Marketing & Comms.

• Support the creation of impact reports and case studies that reflect young people’s lived experience ethically and sensitively.

• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice.

• Stay informed about sector trends and test new tools or approaches appropriate for a small charity.

About the role

This role leads our income generation and communications function, playing a central part in securing the charity’s long-term sustainability and growth.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering our fundraising and communications strategies, ensuring we generate the income needed to sustain and expand our work. A key focus will be building a diverse and resilient funding model, balancing multiple income streams while strengthening engagement with our supporters and stakeholders.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role. It is also a broad brief, and you won’t be expected to be an expert in everything. The Regional Programme & Partnerships Manager plays a central role in leading and growing LTSB’s work across Birmingham. We work with students who, because of their family income, parental history or the postcode they live in, are at risk of missing out on the life-changing opportunities linked to higher education.
We are excited to be recruiting a School Partnerships Officer to join the School Partnerships Team.
Your job will be to raise awareness of our programmes and transform expressions of interest into school partnerships. If you are passionate about communicating with different audiences, quickly building relationships, and meeting ambitious targets that have a huge social impact, this could be the perfect role for you.
This role will require you to become an expert on our programmes so that you can confidently discuss their features and benefits with key stakeholders. You will be comfortable in winning the confidence of head teachers and senior school leaders of prospective schools who have expressed an interest in partnering with us. This isn’t just about administering a process, it’s about understanding the needs of individual schools and how our programmes can support their priorities. You will be tenacious and empathetic in equal measure. Alongside meeting with schools and securing partnerships, you will be involved with generating interest in our programmes, via marketing campaigns and network building. You will also work to improve the efficiency of our internal systems, so teachers have the best experience communicating with us.
The role will report to the School Partnerships Manager. It can be based at either of our Brilliant Club offices, located in London and Leeds.

• Experience of partnership building or selling a programme, product or service to schools, trusts or other education sector stakeholders
