The Talent Set is delighted to be partnering with Mencap to recruit a new Head of Fundraising Strategy & Operations. This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK's leading disability charities at a pivotal moment of investment and renewed ambition.
Head of Fundraising Strategy & Operations
Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 dependent on experience
Location: Hybrid (London HQ)
Mencap is seeking an exceptional fundraising operations and strategy leader to join the organisation as Head of Fundraising Strategy & Operations. This is a newly created and highly influential role at the centre of Mencap's fundraising transformation journey. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Fundraising, the successful candidate will act as a key strategic partner, helping to build the systems, processes, insight and infrastructure required to support sustainable fundraising growth.
This role will shape the future of fundraising strategy and operations at Mencap. Working across a directorate with clear ambition for growth, you will lead the planning, performance, insight, systems and case for support activity that helps their fundraising teams work with clarity, consistency and confidence.
Mencap’s fundraising teams need strong foundations to build trusted relationships, grow income and deliver lasting impact for people with a learning disability and their families. You will work closely with senior fundraising leaders and colleagues across Mencap to turn the ambition of Mencap 2030 into joined-up plans, strengthen reporting and forecasting, and improve how data, systems and evidence are used to support decision making.
We are looking for a confident fundraising strategy and operations leader who combines strategic thinking with strong planning, reporting, systems and stakeholder management experience. You will be able to bring structure to complex work, improve ways of working and support sustainable fundraising growth across the directorate.
You will directly lead key roles across fundraising operations, case for support, stewardship and strategy, creating the leadership, confidence, systems and ways of working needed for fundraising strategy and operations to support growth. This role is for someone who can connect strategy with delivery, build the conditions for teams to succeed and help the directorate scale income and deliver lasting impact.
Over the last year Mencap has made significant investment in fundraising capability, including the implementation of Salesforce. As the organisation enters the next phase of its development, the focus is shifting from implementation towards optimisation, embedding best practice, building capability and creating a more strategic, data-led fundraising culture. This role will be instrumental in helping Mencap realise the full value of that investment.
This is not a traditional fundraising role. Rather than leading frontline income generation, the Head of Fundraising Strategy & Operations will be responsible for building the engine that enables fundraising success. You will identify risks, strengthen processes, improve ways of working and create the conditions that allow fundraising teams to perform at their best.
This is a highly collaborative leadership role requiring strong relationship-building skills, excellent project management capability and the ability to influence across organisational boundaries. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, helping to drive continuous improvement across the fundraising function and supporting the wider transformation agenda.
Potential Early Objectives / Success Measures

Above all, we are looking for a collaborative and solutions-focused leader who is passionate about fundraising excellence. We’re recruiting a Data Compliance Officer! You’ll be joining our Data & Insights team and be our data compliance subject matter expert (SME) in support of the successful delivery of the Blue Cross Data Strategy. In this position you will help us continue cultivating a data-driven culture across our organisation, building a charity-wide community focused on data. This is a hybrid role and you must be able to work from our Burford office in Oxfordshire twice a week.
More about the role
We are looking for a Data Compliance Officer to join our Data & Insights team within Information Services, working in close collaboration with our Head of Legal and Data Protection (DPO). In this role, you will be the day to day subject matter expert ensuring our data practices, marketing activities, and fundraising operations are compliant, robust, and aligned with current regulation. If you want to use your regulatory knowledge in a supportive, purpose-driven environment, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact.
This role focuses on delivering clear, practical compliance guidance across the charity rather than taking a theoretical or box-ticking approach. You will act as the go to contact for advice on the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) code, PECR, and HMRC Gift Aid compliance, while supporting the DPO to maintain alignment with the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Your day to day work will range from assisting with Subject Access Requests and data incident responses to reviewing targeted communications, ensuring valid permission statements are in place, and auditing third-party supplier standards.
You will collaborate closely with marketing, fundraising, and digital project teams to understand their goals and help them design compliant, effective processes from the start. Working alongside colleagues in Information Services, you will help develop data quality KPIs, establish standard operating procedures, and identify areas for automation and process improvement. You will also have the opportunity to advise on emerging challenges, including the responsible and transparent use of data in Artificial Intelligence, and deliver straightforward training and guidance that helps colleagues handle data with confidence.
This is a hybrid role and you must be able to work from our Burford office in Oxfordshire twice a week.
About you
You have a solid foundation in data protection and direct marketing regulations, with a knack for translating complex legal rules into simple, practical advice that colleagues can readily apply. You take an analytical, considered approach to your work and feel comfortable balancing multiple projects, queries, and statutory deadlines without losing sight of detail.
Collaboration is key to how you work. Rather than simply highlighting obstacles, you enjoy working alongside different teams to find workable solutions that achieve their objectives while keeping the organisation fully compliant. You bring sound judgment, the confidence to escalate risks when necessary, and strong communication skills that allow you to build positive working relationships across all levels of the charity.

Help strengthen the organisation behind the UK’s professional voice and trade union for midwives and maternity support workers.
Location: Hybrid, with travel to London and across the UK as required
Applications close: 9 a.m. Monday 12th October 2026
Who we are
The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) is the membership organisation, professional association and trade union for midwives and maternity support workers across the UK.
We support our members throughout their careers, from education and training through to the day they leave the profession. Our work is guided by members and focused on improving their working lives, amplifying their voices and building our midwifery community.
The RCM plays an important role in maternity services, workforce issues, professional leadership, campaigning and public policy. Our members need an organisation that is influential, responsive and trusted, with the systems, insight and confidence to support them well.
About the role
The Chief Operating Officer will help the RCM turn its strategy into disciplined, inclusive and member-focused delivery.
Working closely with the Chief Executive, Board, Executive Team and colleagues across the four nations, you will strengthen the business engine behind the RCM’s purpose. This includes financial planning, governance, risk, compliance, digital, data, CRM, operational performance, supplier management and organisational improvement.
The role comes at an important stage in the RCM’s development. We have made significant progress in working as One RCM, bringing together our professional association, trade union, membership and business functions around a shared commitment to members. The next COO will build on that work by improving financial grip, strengthening data and insight, developing clearer systems and helping teams work with greater confidence and accountability.
What we are looking for
You will bring significant senior leadership experience in a broad organisational role, such as COO, Deputy CEO, Chief Executive, Director of Corporate Services, Director of Resources or a comparable position.
You will understand how to build strong business infrastructure, improve systems and lead change through people. An accounting qualification is not required; however, you will have experience delivering strategic financial management. Importantly, we need someone confident with governance and risk, who is interested in how data, CRM and insight can improve member experience and decision-making.
You do not need to have worked in an organisation exactly like the RCM. Experience in a membership organisation, professional body, trade union, charity or values-led organisation would be helpful, but we are also interested in leaders from other settings who bring the judgement, curiosity and humility to understand our distinctive role.
If you connect with the RCM’s purpose and can help strengthen the organisation that supports midwives and maternity support workers across the UK, we would be pleased to hear from you.
