Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is responding to the largest emergency in our 40+ year history. What is the role about?

You won’t manage the CRM system itself, but you’ll work closely with the CRM Technical lead and Head of Data and Insights to ensure supporter needs are met as we continue to embed a new CRM.

Main responsibilities

Grant Management & Compliance

• Oversee the delivery of the charity’s dedicated grant programmes from pre to post award: Patient Care, Research & Development, Clinical Innovation and Staff Education & Improvement. The post holder will be responsible for circa £2.5M expenditure per annum ensuring they deliver impact for patients, staff and donors (grant values typically range from £2K to <£0.5M).
• Oversee the management of the charity's current grant portfolio; ensuring grants are delivered on time and in accordance with internal processes.
• Ensure compliance with financial obligations (inc. payments, reconciliations and audits) and regulatory obligations (inc. data management, grant award contracts, procurement).
• Ensure grant making processes reflects and champion current best practice.
• Develop and implement a Grants Advisory Committee.

Relationship & Stakeholder Management

• Build relationships with key stakeholders within University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust (UHS), including senior health professionals, executive team members, partners and beneficiaries.
• Work to embed the grants programmes within the hospital environment and work with UHS staff to support them in access funding through working within the hospital and regular visits to clinical areas.
• Act as primary liaison for the Charity’s grant making responsibilities, ensuring alignment with charitable objectives and 2024-2027 strategic mission 
• Provide support to Director of Operations and Resources and the Senior Leadership Team, fostering a collaborative approach to grant programme delivery in tandem with fundraising, communication and art programme goals.
• Represent the organisation at meetings, attending hospital site visits, events and other external facing activities as required.
• Implement hybrid applicant and grantee support functions (e.g. webinars, Q&A events, promotional events, annual learning events).

Strategic Planning & Funding Prioritisation

• Lead the development of the Charity’s grant-making function, working with internal and external stakeholders in identifying key funding priorities that align with the Charity’s mission and future goals.
• Develop strategies for allocating resources effectively and the ongoing review of grant programmes (aiming for continual improvement).
• Develop strategies for working in partnership with UHS for joint decision making, the effective management of capital awards and high value grant requests.
• Identify new grant opportunities and potential partnerships to diversify funding streams.
• Maximise grant impact by contributing to the business planning process.

Evaluation, Reporting & Impact

• Oversee processes for effective grant monitoring, reporting and analysis of grants portfolio.
• Develop and implement an evaluation framework for the charity’s grants programme, ensuring this is embedded and linked to organisation wide reporting mechanisms and measurable outcomes are achieved.
• Use data and insights to inform the continuous improvement of grant-making practices and programme development.
• Utilise information captured to promote grant programmes and support Fundraising and Communications Directorate.
• Support the Grants and Impact Officer.

General

• Support the line management and continuing professional development of the grants team.
• Ensure content and material is in line with Directorate of Fundraising and Communications for marketing, publications, website and social media responsibilities.
• Support the wider work of the organisation, contributing to all staff events/meetings as required.

We're looking for a highly organised and creative Communications Officer to join our busy Communications Department. If you're passionate about clear, compelling communication and want your work to make a real difference across our membership, this could be the role for you. The communications team help champion the value of our members, influence national debate, and support our members. As part of our Creative, Publishing and Production team, you'll help deliver high-quality publications, campaigns and communications seen by nurses, policymakers and the wider public. Your work will support our mission to improve nursing practice, shape health policy, and represent more than half a million health professionals.

As our Communications Officer, you will:

• Be the engine behind our publications and materials.
• Coordinate production workflows across planning, writing, design, print and distribution.
• Maintain project files and schedules, keeping our processes running smoothly.
• Keep our publication's database up to date, summarising new materials and monitoring stock levels.
• Support consistent, high-quality communication
• Proofread and edit copy, ensuring accuracy, clarity and adherence to writing standards.
• Check and protect the visual identity across a range of channels, materials and communications
• Write copy for events, campaigns and marketing materials, working with designers to produce print- and web-ready outputs.
• Help bring our stories to life
• Source appropriate photography, manage permissions and maintain the photo library.
• Support the ongoing development of key campaigns, including updates, proofreading, image research and commissioning designers.
• Play a crucial role in member and stakeholder engagement
• Manage distribution of publications for members, staff and events.
• Work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver a seamless service for our members.
• Represent the team at occasional UK-wide events, including our week-long Annual Congress.
• We're looking for someone who can work confidently in a fast-paced environment, build strong relationships and bring precision and creativity to everything they do.

Experience & skills required for the role

• Experience in a communications or publications role, including writing for print and digital.
• You will have worked in the public sector in communications and, ideally in a health or membership setting.
• A strong copywriter, editor and proofreader - able to follow house style and follow guidelines with meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience of working on publications and a wide range of channels and formats
• Able to understand complex information or policies to create engaging content
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines within a busy team.
• Excellent literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.
• Confidence of working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels
• Educated to an A-level standard or equivalent; a communications-related qualification
• Willingness to travel occasionally (including overnight stays) and attend Congress.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across our global teams to bring our brand to life online — raising awareness, driving engagement, and helping us tell powerful stories of change.

This role sits within our Brand & Communications team. You’ll be responsible for managing digital communities, creating compelling content, spotting trends, and using data insights to optimise our performance. You’ll also play a vital role in building capacity across the organisation, helping others to use social media in a way that’s consistent, impactful, and aligned with our global objectives.

Accountabilities

• Lead the development and delivery of our social media strategy, ensuring alignment with broader communications goals.
• Manage our global social media channels and digital communities — engaging followers, responding to queries, and growing our reach.
• Create and coordinate engaging, platform-appropriate content — including graphics, video, and storytelling.
• Analyse and report on performance, using insights to inform strategy and day-to-day decisions.
• Stay ahead of trends, spotting new opportunities for engagement and innovation.
• Support colleagues and partners with expert advice, toolkits, and training to strengthen their own social media activity.

Your exceptional communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, showing persuasive leadership to foster a culture of creativity and innovation rooted in data-backed insights and strategic brand building.

You are passionate about social justice, sustainable development, and climate resilience, and understand the power of social media to galvanise audiences and achieve organisational objectives. You’re curious, collaborative, and confident in your expertise, and feel equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves to create content or digging into analytics to continuously optimise performance.

You stay informed about emerging digital innovations, always seeking new ways to elevate Practical Action’s work and profile.

You’ll bring:

• Proven experience in social media strategy and management (experience in the INGO or development sector a plus).
• Excellent knowledge of key platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) strengths and opportunities, and how to get the most out of them.
• Strong storytelling skills and experience creating multimedia content, with grounded confidence to adapt master narratives and campaigns to diverse audiences.
• Spotless attention to detail and commitment to the development of high-quality outputs aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
• Solid grasp of digital analytics, social listening tools, and the ability to translate data into insights, creating accessible reports and actionable recommendations.
• Continuous curiosity and understanding of current digital trends, best practices, and emerging platforms.
• Ability to work with and mentor a diverse array of colleagues from different backgrounds and cultures at all levels and experience.
• An inclusive, respectful, and collaborative mindset is a must.
