Job Sumnmary for Director of Charitable Impact
As the Executive Director of Charitable Impact at Bowel Cancer UK, you will play a pivotal role in driving forward our mission: ensuring that everyone with bowel cancer is diagnosed at the earliest stages, receives the best possible care and that more people survive the disease and thrive beyond their diagnosis.
You will lead the charity’s research programmes, policy and influencing, patient services, healthcare professional education, and health information functions. You will ensure these programmes deliver measurable impact on early diagnosis, equity of access, and better outcomes for people with bowel cancer, particularly focusing on reducing health inequalities and addressing the growing incidence of bowel cancer in people under 50.
Working closely with the Strategy & Insight unit, you will embed robust evaluation and evidence into all our work and lead the development of new patient-facing services and digital innovations – including the use of AI – to expand our reach and improve outcomes.
You will bring strategic vision, sector expertise, and an inclusive, collaborative leadership style, guiding a team of around 40 passionate professionals to maximise Bowel Cancer UK’s charitable impact across the UK.

How will I be working?
We operate a flexible, trust based working model that gives colleagues autonomy over how, when and where they work, while recognising the value of in person collaboration. You will be assigned a base office, with hybrid working offered as standard. This role does however involve regular visits to our head office based on business needs.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen as an Empowered Living Team (ELT) Coordinator at St Joseph’s. You will work as a key member of a committed and creative Therapies team, which offers innovative, holistic and person-aligned care and support to people with palliative and end-of-life care needs, and to their families and caregivers.
The post holder will provide coordination for, and service development of, the Empowered Living Service. This community-based service provides outstanding person-centred rehabilitative enablement for people living with a palliative diagnosis. Following a joint professional assessment, a detailed programme of patient-led goals is enabled and supported by a trained ELT volunteer in the patient’s own home. Volunteer recruitment, training, patient matching and regular support group/1-1 supervision is led by the ELT coordinator.

About you
We’re looking for someone who is:
Experienced working with people experiencing homelessness and/or other disadvantages or in
employment services
Compassionate, patient, and calm under pressure
Passionate about empowering and motivating people to move forward
Experienced in supporting people facing barriers
Highly organised, proactive, adaptable, with great communication skills
Able to build trust and communicate well with a wide range of people in person
Experienced in admin and using systems (MS Office essential)
Bonus (but not essential):
Hospitality experience
Knowledge of trauma-informed or person-centred practice

Recruitment Process
If shortlisted, we’ll invite you to a short telephone screening call (20–30 minutes) to learn more about you, answer any questions, and explain the next stage.
Following that, selected candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at The Hotel School in central London. This includes a panel interview, a scenario task, and the opportunity to meet one of our graduates.
