About us
Advance is an award-winning and innovative women-only organisation, established in 1998, providing emotional and practical support to women and girls survivors of domestic abuse and supporting women with short-term sentences to reduce offending. We believe in empowering women and girls to lead safe, non-violent, equal lives so that they can flourish and contribute to the community.
We are a community-based organisation who lead in best practice approaches to supporting women in their local community. We achieve this by being available to meet and support women in local settings and at our women’s centres, and by working in close partnership with other agencies.
Our values are to listen and support, to empower and respect, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Job Summary
Advance’s Minerva service works with women involved in the Criminal Justice System offering safe, targeted support and advocacy to women to help them address their complex needs in relation to the 9 pathways to offending, such as substance misuse and financial difficulties, aiming to reduce re-offending, encourage desistance amongst repeat offenders, and empower women to live safe, crime free lives.
The Minerva Diversion programme began as a two-year pilot programme launched in July 2019 and funded by MOPAC (Mayor’s Office for Policing & Crime). The aim was to drive multi-agency working between the police, Voluntary Community Sector (VCS) service providers and other statutory partners and was part of a wider programme of work to develop a whole system approach to identifying and addressing the needs of women involved in the criminal justice system in London. The Diversion programme integrates a short-term, holistic package of support for women with an out of court disposal, to improve outcomes for the woman and offer officers and the Crown Prosecution Service a robust alternative pathway other than prosecution through the courts.
The Keyworker will aim to divert women from the traditional criminal justice process, motivating them to engage in positive community activity to allow them to leave safer lives, free of crime through a range on in-reach and community-based options. You will advocate in the custody suite for police to caution women instead of charging them and coordinate appropriate community interventions to enable the woman to meet the objectives set out in their tailored Support Plan.
Key responsibilities
Provide an in-reach service to women in the custody suite, advocating for the police to caution women instead of charging them.
Conduct an initial rapid assessment of women’s needs and develop an Individual Support Plan for clients given an out of court disposal, that seeks to address their mental, physical, and sexual health, housing, substance misuse, relationship, education/training/employment, parenting, financial and cultural needs, and provide signposting and referrals in line with this plan.
Meet women as required face-to-face, providing emotional and practical support, aiming to reduce re-offending and encourage desistance for the women.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with all partner agencies including the Metropolitan Police Service, Health, Housing and Local Authority, and work appropriately within MARAC and Safeguarding Adults and Children frameworks to identify and manage risk.
About You:
To be successful as Diversion Keyworker you will have an in-depth knowledge of issues facing women offenders and those at risk of offending; both in and out of the criminal justice system and the ability to see how violence against women and girls interlinks to women in the criminal justice system.
In short, you will have: -
You will bring proven practice of working with women experiencing issues related to offending (e.g. homelessness, substance misuse, domestic abuse, mental health or other relevant work area) preferably within criminal justice setting. You will be able to demonstrate your experience of conducting needs and risk assessments and of risk management crisis management skills and an ability to cope in stressful situations. You will show forth your ability to manage a caseload and a top-quality skill set with prioritising and organising your own workload.
You will be a self-starter uniquely able to undertake working independently and at times be managed remotely. About Fine Cell Work
Fine Cell Work delivers a proven, scalable model of rehabilitation by giving people in prison and post-release high-quality textile skills, combining paid work, creative engagement, and structured support to enable long-term desistance from crime.
As a charity working in criminal justice since 1997, Fine Cell Work has supported nearly 9,000 people in prison.
By providing purposeful activity, we address some of the most pressing challenges within the prison system—mental ill-health, lack of opportunity, and high rates of reoffending. Creative activity and the arts reduce reoffending because they change how people think, feel, and behave in ways that traditional prison programmes often can’t reach. We deliver a proven model of rehabilitation through high-quality needlework classes delivered in prison by committed volunteers. Prisoners produce beautiful, hand-stitched products, gaining both financial independence and a sense of pride.
Our vision is for prisoners and prison leavers to rebuild meaningful, independent, crime-free lives.
Closing date 14 August 2026. We review applications on a rolling basis to invite people to interview ahead of this date.

💡 About the Role
You’ll join our cross-functional team to build and improve the digital platforms that teachers and pupils rely on every day. Working closely with product managers, software engineers, designers, researchers, and curriculum specialists to ensure our products are high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly.
This is a hands-on role focused on validating features from a user perspective, refining definitions through a QA lens, and exploratory testing across our digital platforms. You'll also help champion a culture of quality and contribute to Oak’s values and wider success.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
Validating product behaviour of new features from a user perspective and improving feature definitions by providing a QA perspective.
Communicating and promoting quality as a culture across the engineering, design and product functions.
Exploratory testing of user-facing web apps and internal content creation and management tools.
As a member of the Oak Team, you will contribute to the wider success and culture of the organisation.
Work in cross-functional and product-oriented squads with colleagues from across the organisation, as required.
Support all work across the Product team and take on other general responsibilities as required.
🌱 What We’re Looking For
Knowledge of testing web or mobile-based applications, including exploratory testing, triaging bug reports, identifying common threads in multiple bug reports, and creating well-structured bug reports with appropriate evidence and steps to reproduce.
An understanding of accessibility concerns for web applications and how to assess them.
The ability to design tests and work without test scripts or formal specifications.
Familiarity with agile processes such as user stories, acceptance criteria and working in sprints with colleagues from other teams.
The successful candidate will have a desire to contribute across all areas to ensure Oak's success. You will be comfortable moving quickly and with agility, and be confident working with a range of digital systems (including proprietary ones, as required). You will continually look for ways that the team can keep getting better. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively.
💛 Our Benefits
25 days annual leave, plus one extra day for each year of service (up to 28)
Additional Oak closure days over Christmas/New Year
11% employer pension contribution (with no minimum employee contribution)
A 36-hour working week, with half-days on Fridays or every other Friday off
Fully remote working — we’ll support your home set-up and offer coworking options if preferred
Twice-yearly in-person offsites to collaborate, connect, and have fun
A culture that genuinely supports flexibility, autonomy, and trust
🌈 Inclusion and Belonging
We believe diverse teams build better products. We warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds, particularly those who are underrepresented in the tech and education sectors.
If you're from an underrepresented group, there's a good chance you're discounting yourself before you've even started. That's more common than you'd think, and it means we may miss out on brilliant people. If you're excited by this role but don't meet every requirement, please apply anyway.
We use the Applied platform to help reduce bias in our hiring process. Answers are anonymised and reviewed by a panel of humans.

Next steps
You’ll answer a few admin questions and some about your day-to-day job. Your answers will go through our sift process: all answers will be anonymised, randomised, and then reviewed by a panel of reviewers (real humans), so it's your thinking that gets assessed, not your CV.
If you're shortlisted, we'll invite you to interview. We give everyone feedback at the end of the process.
We love giving feedback, so at the end of the application process, we'll share how well you performed.
