Hours: A minimum of three days per week up to full time 

Contract: Permanent 

Location: Home-based with occasional travel to our office in Vauxhall, London (approximately four times per year), occasional travel to visit projects and approximately two overnight stays per year

About Housing Justice 

Housing Justice brings together communities and finds solutions to homelessness by building personal connections, a sense of belonging, and creating justice in the housing system. We train and support volunteers to offer various accommodation options while building a network of local support. This includes providing personalised assistance to help individuals access relevant local services and address their other needs. Through compassionate, courageous, and collaborative action, we implement innovative solutions to tackle housing injustice, enhance the quality of housing, and elevate the voices and experiences of groups affected by housing injustice to both local and national governments. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and recognise the value of lived experience of homelessness. 

About your role 

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Fundraising Co-ordinator to join the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising team at Housing Justice.As Fundraising Co-ordinator, you will identify both statutory and grant funding opportunities to fund our projects, and craft compelling bids and proposals that clearly articulate our vision, services, and value to commissioners and funders. You will also be responsible for applying for relevant accreditations to support your applications and will have experience of building corporate partnerships.

Following a strategic pause to reset the organisation with the help of an interim senior management team, we are now ready to recruit our long-term Chief Executive Officer. 

Self Help UK (SHUK) provides holistic support and knowledge via close interaction with local communities, peer groups and volunteers to a) prevent long-term health conditions and b) help those with existing conditions to feel more confident, informed and supported in navigating their health journey in a way that works best for them.

We are looking for a Chief Executive Officer to take us into the next phase of growth, with the following responsibilities:

• Forming relationships with local charities and funders in Nottinghamshire and wider East Midlands region, and building relationships within the Deaf community, locally and nationall
• Representing SHUK across relevant forums, networks, and platform
• Bringing funding into core/central functions and securing ongoing funding for existing and future projects
• Managing the operations of SHUK via a senior leadership team of managers and function leads
• Ensuring SHUK is compliant with charity and employer regulations, ensuring high standards of governance, transparency, and integrity
• Ensuring overall financial control of the organisation, supported by the Finance Manager, keeping a regular eye on the core and restricted cashflow
• Supporting the Board of Trustees by ensuring they are making decisions based on accurate information and context
• Ensuring all members of staff and volunteers are supported and developed
• Ensuring SHUK’s services are of high quality and have a positive impact on those who use them
• Driving continuous improvement in quality, standards, image, and reputation

• Demonstrable understanding of charity finances, with strong budget management, financial planning skills and the ability to diversify income
• Experience of working in the voluntary sector, with direct experience of fundraising
• Knowledge of the current NHS plans, and the significance of health inequalities – able to make a case for its importance during bids
• Knowledge/understanding of the Deaf Community
• Experience of managing change and stabilising an organisation
• Business development/networking skills
• Able to pivot between strategy and transactional or work with others to provide those skills, leading through empowerment
• Active interest in and knowledge of the Nottingham/Nottinghamshire locality.
• Able to work in Nottingham at least one day per week

Background:

SHUK is a leading peer support organisation with over 40 years of experience in developing and delivering peer-led services. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by embedding peer support principles into health and wellbeing initiatives. We have created a range of innovative programmes that help people living with cancer and other long-term health conditions to navigate challenges and take control of their health and wellbeing.

We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on projects that make a real difference. These include national and local initiatives for the Deaf community, volunteer-led support for anyone affected by cancer, and prehabilitation services for those facing complex treatment. We are collaborating with our Integrated Care Board (ICB) on cancer projects, and work within our Integrated Care System (ICS) to strengthen partnerships and synergies with local health and care delivery, improve health literacy and increase cancer screening uptake among underserved communities in Nottingham. Looking ahead, we are exploring a new direction to position SHUK as a holistic, person-centred support provider, embedding peer support and volunteer-led activity at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is to challenge health inequalities and enable people to feel confident, informed, and supported in shaping their own health journey.

Business and Human Rights Manager

Are you an experienced human rights & business professional able to engage and drive impact with businesses from a variety of sectors to drive continuous improvement on embedding responsible recruitment, fair work and tackling modern slavery?

Do you have technical subject matter expertise and experience sharing insights with a variety of audiences? And do you enjoy training and supporting businesses and developing new business opportunities?

Then this could be the position for you.

We are looking for an experienced Business and Human Rights Manager to join our committed team as a maternity cover, who will hit the ground running.

The role is diverse including developing and delivering training and services with a variety of businesses, with opportunities to generate new funding to drive impact and sustainability, to project manage a collaborative programme and to try out new ideas. You will work remotely, but in close cooperation with the Co-CEO, Head of Business Development, and rest of our committed team across the world.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

• You will deliver interactive training workshops and deliver premium quality services to businesses to support them to embed responsible recruitment and fair work and tackle modern slavery in their operations and supply chains.
• You will be responsible for ensuring high quality technical content across our organisation and sharing technical insights internally and externally.
• You will manage and grow Stronger Together’s business relations in a variety of sectors, both in the UK and globally to drive impact and generate funding.
• You will project manage client projects from start to finish and, dependent on candidate experience, manage our UK Construction and Property collaborative programme.

Who you are:

• An experienced professional with an in-depth understanding of and subject matter expertise on working with businesses on responsible recruitment, ethical labour practices and modern slavery, and significant experience in business engagement/developing and managing senior management corporate sponsor relations (min. 5 years’ experience)
• An excellent trainer, with experience of developing and delivering training to businesses 
• The ideal candidate should have experience in a business development role, a track record in building and developing business relations, and strong experience of giving presentations, delivering pitches and closing deals 
• Experienced in maintaining and developing corporate sponsor relations including writing client and grant proposals
• A strong project manager and great organiser, with the ability to set and meet demanding targets and deadlines, and to hold others accountable to those
• A professional who has worked with or within the construction, manufacturing, consumer goods, apparel, finance or care sector on responsible business behaviour
• An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, with experience of developing and building new successful working relationships with a range of stakeholders, as well as confidence in representing the organisation professionally at a variety of events 
• A motivated and enthusiastic worker, able to work independently and with remote colleagues/stakeholders 
• Someone with a good eye for detail, whilst retaining sight of the bigger picture. 
• Knowledge of social compliance audit and certification methodologies and audit quality management would be a bonus.
• UK-based with eligibility to work in the UK.
