The Helpline Advocacy Co-ordinator – London (HAC) provides short-term, targeted advocacy to victim/survivors of domestic abuse based in London, who present with complex or additional barriers to accessing safe accommodation and support services.

The role builds on initial helpline contact to deliver enhanced, focused support, including proactive follow-up and advocacy with statutory and voluntary agencies to secure safe outcomes. This includes working closely with housing departments across London boroughs, refuge providers, and specialist services to overcome barriers and facilitate access to accommodation and support.

This post is restricted to women due to the nature of the role. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies.

Wintercomfort works with people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or with a history of homelessness. We provide services to aid every stage of recovery - from immediate basic welfare needs to long term help in identifying and dealing with the problems which are undermining their stability, and enabling them to engage with education, employment and specialist health services.  National statistics rank the numbers of rough sleepers in Cambridge within the highest 20 UK local authorities.

Wintercomfort is the only day-time service in the city, providing year-round advice and support for homeless or vulnerably housed people. Over the past three decades Wintercomfort has continued to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the homeless community.

Our specialist Housing Team provides expert advice and support to help people successfully navigate the search for housing and crucially, support them to sustain life away from the street.

About you and the Role 

The Tenancy Sustainment Project Worker will provide targeted, practical and relational support to individuals who have recently secured accommodation or who are at risk of losing their tenancy. This is an outreach-focused role, working proactively with people in community settings, partner agencies, drop-ins and other accessible locations to maintain engagement and offer support where it is most appropriate.

The role may occasionally involve contact in or around accommodation settings, but this would usually be planned and supported alongside other services where appropriate. The role will focus on preventing repeat homelessness by helping people stabilise their housing, understand and manage the responsibilities of a tenancy, and build the confidence and skills needed for independent living. Working in trusted community settings and in partnership with statutory and voluntary sector services, the postholder will act as a critical bridge between vulnerable individuals and the support systems available to them.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide outreach-based casework and practical tenancy support, working one-to-one with people who have recently moved into accommodation or who are at risk of tenancy breakdown, including proactive engagement in community settings, partner agencies, drop-ins and other accessible locations. Where accommodation-based contact is required, this would usually be planned in advance and supported alongside other services where appropriate.
• Support clients with the practical responsibilities of sustaining a tenancy, including rent payments, benefits, income, household bills, budgeting, financial planning, accessing furniture grants, home furnishing schemes and other resources needed to establish a safe and settled home.
• Develop clients’ independent living skills and confidence, helping them build routines, manage their home, solve problems, understand tenancy expectations and gain the skills needed to live independently over the longer term.
• Provide housing information, homelessness prevention support and advocacy, supporting clients to understand their rights and responsibilities and liaising with landlords, relevant local authorities and local authority housing services where there is a risk of eviction or difficulty navigating housing systems.
• Connect clients with wider welfare, specialist and community support, including benefits guidance, financial information, employment and training opportunities, Wintercomfort’s wider services, and specialist partners such as legal aid services where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively and maintain effective outreach casework practice, building trusted relationships with people experiencing housing crisis, poor mental health or disengagement from services, using proactive and flexible engagement methods to maintain contact, while keeping accurate records and contributing to monitoring the impact of tenancy sustainment support.
• To ensure that accurate records are kept, documenting the support services provided to Wintercomfort’s service users on Inform. Ensuring that record keeping meets the requirements of internal and external monitoring of outcomes, assisting with reports and deliver impactful case studies to funders.

About the role:

This is an ideal post for someone with experience and interest in bereavement work, looking to join a forward thinking, new service. This is also a great chance to be working alongside the Healthcare & Education Department within HMP Bronzefield and be part of a prison services team in Advance.

Using a trauma informed approached, the Loss & Bereavement Specialist will conduct a person-centred assessment to understand the extent of the client’s emotional needs and the impact of loss due to imprisonment or contact with the criminal justice system whilst also identifying practical and specialist needs. They will work with women to develop a support plan, ensuring they are equipped with information and knowledge about how to navigate possible changes in circumstances related to her children’s care and offer crisis intervention and support during acute phases of loss/bereavement.

The Loss & Bereavement Specialist Worker will liaise with the Prison Healthcare team, OMU, visits team and the Family Support Officer to facilitate interactions between women and their children/family members, particularly considering support is in place after visits and that the women’s emotional needs are met in custody and community via our Women’s centres.

The Specialist Worker will create a link between prison and the community, helping women to navigate support services and to positively re-integrate into their community upon release. The role will combine a casework- based approach, along with a signposting and advice service for the women. They will be based in the community and will provide a drop-in service in HMP Bronzefield to support women who are close to release.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential.

About You:

To be successful as the Loss & Bereavement Specialist Worker you will need the below experience and skills:

• Experience of working with bereaved individuals and providing grief counselling including knowledge of various therapeutic modalities relevant to grief counselling
• Comprehensive understanding of the grieving process and experience of working with bereaved and loss as well as knowledge of traumatic and complex grief/loss
• An understanding of violence against women and girls and its links to women in the criminal justice system
• Proven ability and experience as a caseworker delivering trauma responsive interventions which support resettlement and rehabilitation of vulnerable people in the criminal justice system whether in the community or in prisons
• Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of managing a caseload including maintaining and updating records, remaining focused on action plan goals, and keeping to deadlines

About The Team

Our Legal Service provides specialist legal knowledge across Shelter through four teams covering Community Legal advice, Strategic Litigation, and Legal Support Team. You will be part of our Community Legal Team, who are based across our 11 hub locations and work alongside hub colleagues every day to fight housing injustice and deliver systemic change relating to housing practice in our local communities.

Shelter Sheffield has a housing legal contract as well as a contract to deliver the County Court Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service at Sheffield and Doncaster. You will be based in the Sheffield community hub which has the overall aim of preventing homelessness and improving homelessness services for the people of South Yorkshire.

The advice and support team in Sheffield has been established for over 20 years, taking a holistic approach and focuses on emergency homelessness, support for children, families and people experiencing domestic abuse, as well as those with multiple and complex needs.

Role: Dads’/Partners’ Peer Support Worker
Location: Birmingham wide / Hybrid working

What will the role involve?

The Dads’/Partners’ Peer Support Worker will play an important role in helping us reach and support more fathers and partners across Birmingham. The role will be community-based and will involve regular travel across the city, working closely with Family Hubs, community organisations and other local partners.

A key part of the role will be establishing and facilitating dads’ stay-and-play groups across Birmingham’s Family Hub areas. These groups will provide opportunities for dads to spend quality time with their children, meet other fathers, build supportive relationships and access support in a welcoming and informal environment.

The postholder will also provide one-to-one peer support, drawing appropriately on their own lived experience to build trust, offer encouragement and help fathers and partners feel less alone. They will support individuals to access relevant mental health, wellbeing, family and community services where needed.

The role will also help to raise awareness of fathers’ and partners’ perinatal mental health through community events, online resources and social media. Working alongside Family Hubs and other local services, the postholder will help dads and partners develop coping strategies, strengthen their support networks and feel more confident about moving forward.

Travel expenses incurred as part of the role will be reimbursed in line with Acacia’s Expenses Policy.Due to the post requiring regular travel across Birmingham, the applicant should ideally have access to a car for work purposes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trusts and grants fundraiser to lead the Charity's trusts, grants and foundations strategy. The role aims to secure multi-year four, five and six-figure grants and build a reliable, sustainable income stream. Reporting to the Fundraising Lead, you'll develop and manage a robust pipeline end-to-end (research, cultivation, application, reporting and renewal), write compelling cases for support and tailored proposals, and work closely with service delivery and finance colleagues to shape fundable projects with clear, measurable outcomes. Service User Support and Casework 

• Manage an allocated caseload of Service Users, taking responsibility for progressing work and responding appropriately to changing circumstances.

Hybrid working

Project Coordinator – Mobile Dignity Hub, South-West England 

Job description 

This is a role based in the South-West of England, working across the region to deliver a new mobile refugee clinic. The Project Coordinator is responsible for setting up and running the pilot project: coordinating a rented van, a small cohort of trained volunteers, and a rolling programme of visits to areas where people seeking asylum have been dispersed. The primary services will be dependent on the availability of other services in the local area but are non-specialist advice and referrals, and the distribution of welcome packs, clothes and hygiene items. The Project Coordinator can be based anywhere across the South-West.

The mobile model exists because widening dispersal is moving people seeking asylum further from city-centre services, often to rural areas with little existing support infrastructure. Fixed premises are a poor fit for many people's reality – low incomes, limited transport, childcare, language barriers and poor health can make a city-centre appointment practically inaccessible. This project takes support to where people are, building trust through co-hosting with local organisations and the use of refugee peer supporters. 

The Project Coordinator will work closely with the CEO and Back Office, collaborating on volunteers, budget management, partnerships and the development of the project. This role starts part-time (3 days per week) and is expected to increase to full-time (5 days per week) from January 2027. Extension beyond the pilot period will be based on performance and funding, and decided by mutual agreement between the Project Coordinator and the CEO. 

Role specification 

Setting up and running the mobile clinic: 

• Lead the practical set-up of the pilot: sourcing and maintaining a rented van, developing a network of partners across the South-west to coordinate operations and facilitate storage 

• Plan and deliver a rolling weekly/monthly rota of visits to different areas where people seeking asylum have been dispersed, working towards the target of 200 members served in the three-month pilot (800 in the first six months). 

• Oversee day-to-day delivery of non-specialist advice and referrals, and the distribution of welcome packs, clothes and hygiene items, ensuring services operate efficiently, safely and in line with organisational procedures. 

• Create and keep up to date a directory of local support services (health, legal, housing and other) so members can be referred accurately and quickly. 

• Identify and monitor the evolving needs of members and suggest new or improved ways of working to best serve the communities the project works with. 

• Identify and realise purchases needed to run and develop the project. Pay suppliers or ensure the Back Office knows when to pay. 

• Undertake any additional ad hoc tasks or responsibilities as directed by the CEO to support the effective running of the project. 

Member support: 

• Assess member needs and identify local service gaps to ensure relevant and suitable support is provided. 

• Support members to access and enrol with appropriate service providers through effective referral pathways. 

• Collect monitoring and evaluation data on what and how the project is delivering, including member feedback.

• Recruit, welcome, train and manage a small team of volunteers, ensuring everyone is well supported and clear on how to help members within eligibility criteria. 

• Ensure all volunteers, visitors and any other relevant party understand and adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, including photos/media. 

• Manage safeguarding, including reporting concerns, incidents and disclosures immediately. 

• Ensure a safe environment for members, volunteers and visitors, maintaining appropriate health and safety standards on the road and at any partner venues. 

Partnerships and stakeholder management: 

• Develop partnerships with local organisations across the South-West (including hosting arrangements at hubs and other venues) to build trust and extend the project's reach. 

• Maintain and nurture relationships with partners through clear, timely communication and attendance at relevant meetings. 

Budget management, reporting and accountability: 

• Manage and keep to the project budget. 

• Ensure careful management of financial resources and account for all expenditure on Xero. 

• Maintain regular communication with the CEO and Back Office, responding to queries and carrying out tasks as required, including participating in regular meetings. 

• Contribute to a full evaluation of the pilot project to inform decisions about extension or expansion to other areas. 

Essential Criteria 

• At least two years' experience (paid or voluntary) working with displaced and/or marginalised people. 

• Ability to stay calm and work under pressure in a highly emotional environment. 

• Very clear communicator, able to lead and motivate a team of volunteers and clearly enforce rules. 

• Understanding of professional boundaries. 

• Ability to stay emotionally resilient and practise self-care while remaining compassionate to the needs of others. 

• Proven ability to improve services within limited resources. 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and tech literacy in general, most importantly with Excel, Teams and digital file management. 

• Eligibility to work in the UK. 

• Strong spoken and written English is essential. You must be confident working in a multilingual environment where not everyone shares the same language. 

• A full, valid UK driving licence, and confidence driving a large van. 

• Willingness to travel regularly across the South-West of England and to work outside the formal hours of 9am–5pm occasionally, as the work demands. 

• Understanding of the UK asylum system and dispersal policy. 

• Knowledge of the South-West of England, particularly Dorset and Bournemouth. 

Desirable 

• Interest and knowledge of the NGO sector and humanitarian movements in the UK and Europe. 

• Existing network of or knowledge of various services and providers across the South-West 

• Additional language skills are desirable but not required. 

• Passion, initiative and creativity to constantly improve what we do. 

• Experience starting a business/charity or of working in a start-up would be a distinct advantage 

Offered Benefits 

• Salary of £30,000 per annum (FTE). This role is part-time (3 days per week) for four months, potentially rising to full-time thereafter (5 days per week), with salary pro-rated accordingly.
