Job Title: Caretaker

Location: Bermondsey. 

Salary: £27,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to be flexible outside this shift pattern as per service requirements.

About the Role

We're looking for a Caretaker to join our team based in Bermondsey. You will support the team to ensure our properties are maintained to a high standard by carrying out a variety of tasks including cleaning and handy person duties. You will deliver a professional, customer service focused service to ensure our properties are safe and work towards our good homes standard. 

You will join our new Independent Approved Premises commissioned by Criminal Justice Service (IAP).The service supports residents who have recently been released from prison who move into our residential accommodation. We support them in their journey to reintegrate into the community, helping to reduce reoffending rates post release. You will play a vital role in supporting our residents to rebuild their lives, communities, and provide opportunities for them to do this. 

Responsibilities Include:

• Clean buildings and rooms including end of tenancy deep cleans
• Keeping garden soil and refuse clear of damp courses and air bricks
• Prepare accommodation for new occupants
• Carry out basic repairs and maintenance which could include furniture upkeep, gardening, replacing bulbs, painting and decorating
• Work closely with teams to carry out risk assessments
• Work with external partners for further repair tasks

About You

We're looking for someone who has a keen interest in Caretaking and has an understanding of health, safety, and environment, with the ability to apply this practically to a residential service. You will be able to take ownership of your role and projects, and can work independently as well as part of a team. You will understand the needs of our residents and able to work flexibly to meet tailored needs for our residents and staff.

• Proven appropriate experience in a similar role, this can include housekeeping, cleaning, or handyperson work
• Proactive nature, with the ability to make decisions and use initiative to provide logical solutions, taking ownership and accountability
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral including relationship building
• Attention to detail and quality, with high level of organisation skills
• Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment laws and practices in accommodation settings

Role Overview: 

Reporting to the Mental Health Programme Lead, the post-holder will be responsible for delivering a 10 week, 1:1 personal training programme to clients with severe mental health illnesses (SMI) which can include: Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Severe Clinical Depression. The post-holder will be responsible for attending initial and final assessment meetings either side of the 10 week programme for each client assigned to them as part of the Active Wellbeing programme.

The post-holder will also be responsible for supporting the Mental Health team with basic administrative tasks when sessions are not able to be delivered, which can include, but are not limited to, processing referrals, supporting engagement activities and organising assessments.

Main Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Design and deliver a weekly physical activity session for each client considering safety and progression with each of the 10 sessions.
• Engage in all client assessments prior to and beyond their 10-week programme
• Active engagement and design of goals and individualised exercise plans for each client
• Monitor clients’ exercise intensity, type, and ability to ensure clients are exercising safely.
• Monitoring clients’ mental wellbeing during sessions to ensure safety and communicating any concerns to the line manager.
• Responsible for arranging weekly sessions with clients.
• High level of communication between instructor and client to confirm session times and locations.
• High level of communication between instructor and line manager to report any concerns with a clients mental and physical wellbeing during sessions.
• Provide motivation and encouragement for clients to engage in sessions and stay engaged in their programme.
• Responsible for the setup of equipment for outdoor or online sessions.
• Responsible for checking in and out of sessions with the Active Wellbeing team to ensure safety of both instructor and client.
• Responsible for checking the safety of equipment. If equipment is faulty and needs to be replaced, responsible for communicating this with the Active Wellbeing programme lead.
• Responsible for administering first aid in the event of an accident and ensuring that safety requirements are met in all areas.
• Complete relevant administrative tasks when sessions are unable to be completed. 

The successful candidate will have 

• Level 3 qualified personal training certification (essential)
• Class based instructing qualifications (essential)
• At least 2 years' experience in a role that involves delivering face-to-face personal training physical activity support
• Experience working in a mental health setting and/or long term health conditions (essential)
• Experience working with vulnerable groups (desirable)
• Mental health first aid, suicide prevention or mental health awareness qualification (desirable) or willingness to undertake training (essential)

Who are we?

The Outrunners are a running charity based in Hackney, on a mission to empower young people through movement. Backed by an incredible crew of volunteers and partner brands like Nike and Moju, we help young people in East London to build confidence, wellbeing, health and leadership skills.

We deliver free, fun, sociable, youth‑led running and movement sessions for 8–18 year olds every week - during term time and holidays. But we’re about more than just running. We also create spaces for young people to explore creativity and culture, go on exciting trips, access wraparound wellbeing support, and develop the skills and opportunities they need to shape the futures they want.

Over the past five years, we’ve supported thousands of young people and helped push greater diversity within the running world.

Last year we launched an exciting partnership with Nike’s Social and Community Impact team. As a Youth Practitioner, you’ll deliver our programmes across schools in East London, aiming to engage more young people in movement and running. 

What do we want?

We are looking for a new sessional Youth Practitioner to work alongside the Youth Programme team to develop and deliver our Nike-funded schools programme across East London. 

You need to be passionate about getting young people moving, in particular girls and young women, and believe in the power of excellent youth work. You'll have a good understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by young people living in East London.

What you’ll be working on: 

Supporting our movement programmes 

• You’ll deliver fun and engaging sessions in schools to young people aged 11-18, alongside teachers and other coaches.

• You’ll work with the Youth Programme Lead and other Youth Practitioners to design movement  programmes, with a focus on running and movement whilst also bringing other sports, games and wellness activities.

• You’ll support the development of our programmes targeted at 8-18 year olds outside of schools.

• You’ll undertake administration tasks such as planning sessions, ensuring evaluation forms are completed and uploading data to our database.

• You’ll complete any other business required by management and pitch in to help with other tasks at busy times during the year. 

Working with young people and their families 

• You’ll develop and maintain relationships with young people and parents.

• You’ll support young people's attendance at approximately 5 races per year (weekends)

• You’ll work with the Youth Programme Team to plan and deliver activities over half-term and summer holidays. 

• You’ll ensure safeguarding procedures are upheld for all young people.

1. RELEVANT GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• To support the Youth Intervention Manager to plan, organise and deliver the Positive Futures Hucknall project, and work towards achieving all KPI targets set within the Holgate Academy Partnership Agreement.
• To support our young people within educational settings, specifically around behaviour interventions and working with those on the edge of exclusion, truanting and developing poor behaviour traits.
• To develop trusted professional relationships with young people to steer them to alternative positive outcomes through interventions, workshops and open access sport and to build aspirations.
• Work in unison with the Youth Intervention Manager to identify new potential partnerships and to manage existing ones through partner delivery and meetings.
• Act as a key contact point for referral partners to ensure regular updates on young people’s progress are shared.
• To provide signposting and advocacy for young people and families needing to access other services.
• To ensure all relevant Health & Safety and Child Protection/Safeguarding policies and legislation are adhered to.
• Work closely with the Safeguarding Manager to gain advice and report any safeguarding concerns relating to young people within the Positive Futures Programme. Support the review of a safeguarding reporting process.
• To deliver and assist in the development of the Positive Futures project, with the overarching aim of using youth work and sport to engage ‘at-risk’ young people in order to identify and support their individual needs and steer them towards education, training and employment.
• To undertake administrative duties including day to day management of:

- Activity registers.

- Provide regular monitoring and evaluation of delivery.

- Ensure all notes and timeline events are recorded per individual on Upshot.

- Regularly collect surveys that will assist in providing evidence for impact of delivery to funding partners.

- Gathering of ASDAN accreditation evidence to be submitted.

2. SPECIFIC ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

• Support the Youth Intervention Manager to create impact reports throughout the project through collecting relevant evidence and statistics to highlight impact of the project.
•  To work in partnership with Holgate Academy and its feeder Primary schools to work with young people identified by Nottinghamshire Virtual Schools who have, or have previously had social care involvement through Child Protection Plans or Child in Need plans.
• Work in collaboration with Holgate to identify those in need of intervention support and to create bespoke intervention packages for each referred 1:1 individual and support around key concerns / reason of initial referral.
• Support referred young people in both 1:1 intervention and group workshops through transition from Primary school to Secondary school, those struggling to engage positively in school, have formed concerning behaviour patterns and/or safeguarding concerns.
• Provide termly updates on individuals engaging with the project schools / referring agencies.
• Work in collaboration with external supporting organisations attached to individual participants (Social Care, Police etc).
• Plan, coordinate and deliver 3 x days (4 hours per day) of activity per week during school holidays.
• Support in peer and adult relationship repair where necessary.
• Provide suppOrt to young people to engage in further activities external to school within the local community.

As a Senior Support Coach, you will play a pivotal role within the service, as a point of contact, providing advice and guidance to the wider team in support of the management team, and to residents. You will be based within our Offender Personality Disorder Housing Accommodation and Support Service (OPD HASS). The service provides specialist, structured support to high risk and high need men who have recently left the criminal justice system.

The service provides specialist support to help overcome personal barriers to resettlement, reducing the risk of re-offending and supports residents towards independent living. You will deliver flexible, responsive, and person centred support to residents. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to lead by example and positively influence the recovery journeys of individuals with complex needs, including personality disorders and offending backgrounds. About You

We’re looking for an empathetic and resilient individual who understands the impact of trauma and the challenges faced by women with multiple and complex needs. You will have experience supporting people affected by issues such as domestic abuse, mental ill-health, homelessness, and substance use. You will be confident delivering structured support, including one-to-one interventions and group work and be able to engage individuals who may be in distress or disengaged from services. 

You’ll be proactive, organised, and able to manage a varied workload, while working collaboratively within a team. You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and will have alignment with our SIG values. You will be keen to support our residents to achieve their individual goals and support them to be the best versions of themselves.

Age UK Wandsworth is a local, independent charity that works to promote the wellbeing of all older people in the London Borough of Wandsworth. We offer a variety of services with the goal of helping older people to age well in Wandsworth. Our charity is consistently growing and our next step is to open a specialist Gym for older people, people with disabilities, people with dementia and people with chronic health conditions. This brand-new role will suit someone who is professional, customer-focused, energetic and passionate about exercise being inclusive.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join IRMO as our Youth Project Coordinator and lead the Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF) – IRMO’s youth-led group for migrant and refugee young people aged 13–19.

LAYF offers a safe, supportive and trilingual space (Spanish, Portuguese and English) where young people can overcome barriers and begin to find their feet in the UK. Activities are designed to build confidence, support integration and foster leadership. Through the programme, participants can learn English through fun and engaging ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, take part in weekly educational, arts-based and themed workshops, and receive one-to-one support through a targeted coaching programme focused on education, volunteering and employment.

Young people also have the opportunity to join the LAYF Youth Steering Group, where they can develop leadership skills and inspire other Spanish and Portuguese-speaking young people, while exploring London and beyond through cultural trips and residentials.

As Youth Project Coordinator, you will be responsible for registering and onboarding new participants, designing and delivering a creative weekly programme of LAYF Space Workshops, and offering one-to-one mentoring to help young people access opportunities and build confidence. You’ll work closely with IRMO’s ESOL and Advice and Advocacy teams to ensure a joined-up and holistic approach.

This is a varied role that requires empathy, creativity and excellent organisational skills. You will play a key part in ensuring all activities are inclusive, engaging and safe, while monitoring progress and capturing the achievements of the young people involved. You’ll also be a positive role model, helping each participant realise their potential and feel empowered in their journey.

LAYF is delivered as part of Building Young Brixton (BYB), a consortium of ten Lambeth-based organisations working together to inspire and empower young people in the borough. Partnership working is central to the LAYF ethos, and the Youth Project Coordinator will collaborate closely with BYB partners to co-create activities, share skills and strengthen impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit and register LAYF participants by assessing individual needs and matching them with appropriate activities

• Plan, co-produce and deliver a dynamic and engaging programme of LAYF activities – from arts and sport to inspirational talks – designed to build young people’s confidence, life skills and social connection

• Coach and support young people to thrive in their education and personal development through a targeted one-to-one coaching programme

• Plan and deliver quarterly trips and events that promote peer interaction and engagement with the local community

• Signpost and refer young people to relevant services at IRMO, BYB or other external partners

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including registration forms, attendance, surveys, feedback, session plans and coaching logs

• Input and manage baseline and progress data using IRMO’s database and monitoring tools

• Produce compelling case studies and success stories to share with young people, funders and supporters

• Ensure the wellbeing and safety of all participants, following IRMO’s safeguarding policies and National Youth Agency (NYA) guidance

• Communicate with LAYF participants and families in a timely and appropriate way, respecting boundaries and overcoming communication barriers

• Promote LAYF activities through newsletters, social media and IRMO’s communications channels

• Represent LAYF and IRMO in meetings and forums with partners, funders and youth sector networks

• Work closely with IRMO colleagues to ensure the wider needs of young people and families are supported holistically

• Recruit, supervise and support LAYF volunteers

• At least one year’s experience working with young people in the UK

• Ability to manage your workload, meet deadlines and respond to changing demands
