Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced business development leader to join Victim Support as Head of Business Development.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Business Development and Fundraising, this role will provide day-to-day management of Victim Support's business development function, ensuring the team is equipped, supported and focused to deliver high-quality business development activity across the organisation.

Victim Support is an independent charity for people affected by crime in England and Wales. We work towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and respect they deserve.

This role is home based (within England and Wales) with some national travel and overnight stays.

What we offer:

At Victim Support we believe in attracting and retaining the best people and offer a competitive rewards and benefits package including:

  • Flexible Working Options: Including hybrid working.
  • Generous Annual Leave: 28 days plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 33 days plus Bank Holidays, with options to buy or sell annual leave.
  • Birthday Leave: An extra day off for your birthday.
  • Pension Plan: 5% employer contribution.
  • Enhanced Allowances: Enhanced sick pay, maternity, and paternity payments.
  • Exclusive Discounts: High Street, retail, holiday, gym, entertainment, and leisure discounts.
  • Financial Wellbeing: Access to our financial wellbeing hub and salary-deducted finance.
  • Wellbeing Support: Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support.
  • Inclusive Networks: Access to EDI networks and colleague cafes.
  • Sustainable Travel: Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loans.
  • Career Development: Ongoing training and support with opportunities for career progression.
  • London Weighting: £2,800 London weighting (if applicable)

About the role:

You will manage and develop a team of Business Development Managers, Business Development Officers and a Business Development Coordinator, creating a high-performing culture that promotes accountability, continuous improvement and learning.

You will play a critical part in driving excellence in the quality of bids, tenders and proposals. You will oversee competitive tendering activity, strengthening bid processes (involving further integration of AI tools), embedding effective quality assurance arrangements and ensuring submissions are compelling, compliant, evidence-based and clearly demonstrate the impact of Victim Support's services.

Success in this role will also depend on the ability to build strong and productive relationships across the organisation. Working closely with operational leaders, finance, quality and performance, communications, policy and partnerships colleagues, you will ensure business development activity is informed by operational expertise and reflects organisational priorities.

This role is ideal for a collaborative and people-focused leader who combines strong business development expertise with a passion for developing teams, driving bid quality and delivering excellent cross-organisational working.

This role is home based (within England and Wales) with some national travel and overnight stays.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
