We’re looking for an ambitious, creative fundraiser to build on a strong foundation and develop Fréa’s next generation of income and partnerships.
Fréa brings together three established Irish charities with a shared commitment to supporting Irish communities across the North of England. We believe that, by working together, we can achieve more than any of us can alone.
We are now looking for an exceptional Head of Fundraising and Development to help us realise that ambition.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who enjoys building relationships, spotting opportunities and turning ideas into sustainable income. You will have the freedom to shape Fréa’s fundraising approach, develop new partnerships and funding streams, and help establish the partnership as an increasingly influential and sustainable organisation.
You will build on a strong platform already created by Fréa’s existing fundraising work, while bringing fresh thinking and new energy to its next stage of development. You will work closely with senior colleagues and Boards across the three partner charities, developing compelling propositions and identifying opportunities where Fréa can achieve more by working collectively.
Importantly, this is collaborative fundraising, not competitive fundraising. Fréa’s role is to complement and add value to the excellent fundraising already undertaken by its three partners. You will need the judgement to recognise when an opportunity is best pursued by Fréa, by an individual partner, or jointly – always respecting existing relationships with funders, donors and corporate partners.
We are looking for someone who combines fundraising expertise with relationship-building, creativity and excellent partnership skills. You will be comfortable working strategically while also getting stuck into the practical business of developing networks and events, cultivating relationships and securing income.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Cause4’s Development Team as a Development Manager, supporting a varied portfolio of charities and social purpose organisations with fundraising, strategy and organisational development.
This opportunity provides a fantastic opportunity for someone to work as part of a passionate and hard working team to hone their consultancy skills to fast track into more senior positions within the organisation.
The role offers the chance to work across multiple sectors including arts, heritage, education, health, sport and community organisations, helping clients to develop fundraising strategies, secure funding and build sustainable income streams. Alongside client work, you will play an active role within the wider Cause4 Development Team, contributing to research, organisational planning, training delivery and business development activity.
This position offers broad exposure across a wide range of organisations, fundraising disciplines and consultancy projects, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to accelerate their career within the charity or consultancy sectors.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Client Support
- Supporting a portfolio of clients with fundraising strategy development and delivery.
- Writing compelling funding applications, Cases for Support and donor-facing materials.
- Supporting funding approaches to Trusts & Foundations, statutory funders, corporates and individual donors.
- Conducting research into prospective funders, partners and opportunities.
- Supporting the development and delivery of fundraising events and engagement activities. Building positive relationships with clients, funders and wider stakeholders.
- Supporting the delivery of fundraising training and wider Cause4 programmes.
Research & Consultancy
- Producing high-quality research, reports and briefing papers.
- Supporting the development of programme ideas, evaluation frameworks and measurable outcomes.
- Contributing strategic thinking to fundraising campaigns and organisational development projects.
- Supporting wider consultancy and innovation work across the organisation.
Team & Organisational Development
- Contributing to Cause4’s business development and growth activity.
- Sharing knowledge, expertise and fundraising insight across the team.
- Supporting the wider strategic and operational needs of the organisation.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills & Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who are ambitious, adaptable and keen to grow within a consultancy environment. You may already have experience in fundraising, charity operations, programme delivery, arts administration, partnerships, research or strategy work.
We are looking for:
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce compelling, engaging and high-quality written material.
- Strong research and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and synthesise large and complex amounts of information and data from a range of sources.
- Experience within a charity, fundraising, arts, education or consultancy environment.
- An interest in fundraising, philanthropy and organisational development.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Confidence working with a range of stakeholders and building professional relationships.
- Strategic thinking, creative and problem-solving skills. Strong organisational and coordination skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using online platforms such as Zoom or Teams.

Experience across fundraising or income generation is desirable, but we are equally interested in candidates with strong transferable skills and the ambition to develop into a client-facing consultancy role.

Are you an experienced fundraising compliance professional with a proven track record in developing and implementing strategic plans, along with creating supporting policies, processes, and training programs?
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Commercial Support and Governance, the role works alongside the Fundraising Supporter Services and Standards Manager, Retail Operations Manager and Retail Support & Projects Manager.
The Commercial Directorate incorporates Fundraising and Retail Operations alongside other Commercial activities such as the International Learning Academy at Sue Ryder. The role will focus predominantly on fundraising operations compliance and provide leadership and assurance guidance for other commercial operations.
You will lead the development and implementation of a compliance framework across all fundraising operations at Sue Ryder which includes, maintaining awareness of external legal and regulatory requirements, engaging stakeholders to review and update policies, work with subject matter experts to create compliance processes and training.
You will also build and maintain reporting and other mechanisms which clearly identify where assurance is available or where not, providing leaders with data to focus on improving compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the compliance framework, which includes creating an audit and assurance program for Fundraising, leading on audits where applicable.
- Review and update all compliance policies and procedures, recommending and gaining agreement with subject matter experts for appropriate review periods.
- Ensure adequate training resources are available for compliance related matters and ensure regular reporting to monitor compliance and inform managers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Junior Data Protection Officer, to update data protection processes. Regularly review consent statements ensuring these are appropriate and standardised, managing third-party consent documentation.
- Review, advise and agree sign off with subject matter experts on fundraising materials sent out across Sue Ryder.
Essential Criteria:
- Expert knowledge of the CAP code, General Data Protection Regulation, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), Code of Fundraising Practice and other charity requirements set by the ICO, the Fundraising Regulator, Gambling Commission’s Licence Conditions and Code of Practice and HMRC Gift Aid Standards.
- Proven experience of creating and reviewing policies and guidance in a fundraising or retail environment.
- Experienced in implementing reporting mechanisms (SLA/KPIs) using multiple data sources and systems and internal and external audit processes and risk management.
- Understand and have experience of project management processes.
- Excellent teamwork, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills.
- Capable of managing competing priorities to meet business need, balancing risk and commercial benefit
- Able to manage time, plans, projects, and tasks effectively.
Desirable Criteria
- Able to develop a network of relationships across the organisation to deliver objectives as a skilled negotiator able to influence and motivate others
- Proficient with various computer and communication software relating to fundraising, retail and/or learning and development environments.
