Job description

A little bit about the role

Location: Hybrid with travel required  across the Midlands, North West and North East regions.

Contract: Full time, permanent

Please note that this role will close on Monday 23rd November at 9am.

To help us achieve our mission, we are recruiting a qualified social worker with direct experience of working with children and families, and knowledge and experience of supporting social work students. We are looking for candidates who can contribute to the delivery of teaching across the year, support participants in their local authority hubs, support participants during the 2nd year of Approach Social Work and become their dissertation supervisor during the 3rd year of the programme.

Practice Tutors (PTs) play a key role within the development and delivery of our social work curriculum, contributing knowledge and expertise to create a culture that promotes outstanding social work education. PTs are responsible for teaching and developing participants at the Readiness for Practice stage, regional teaching days and, in participant hubs within local authorities.

PTs support four practice hubs, based within statutory children’s social care services. Each practice hub is led by a Consultant Social Worker (CSW). Core to the Practice Tutor role is the ability to provide support, challenge and guidance to participants and CSWs to ensure a high-quality practice learning experience.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A good understanding of the social work role
  • Excellent social work practice skills
  • Experience of developing others and a commitment to educating a new generation of social workers.

This role provides the opportunity to genuinely align practice and theory. In doing so you need to be committed to evidence informed practice models and have an appetite to exploring different and innovative approaches to teaching these models.

Please see the job pack for a full list of responsibilities.

A little bit about you

We are looking for a qualified social worker with strong experience in statutory children and families’ social work, and a clear commitment to developing the next generation of social workers. You will bring excellent practice knowledge, confidence in supporting and challenging others, and the ability to connect social work theory, evidence and practice in an engaging and accessible way. You will be a skilled communicator and reflective practitioner, able to teach, coach and support participants and Consultant Social Workers across a range of settings, while helping to create high-quality learning experiences that improve practice for children and families.

We have a fast-moving culture within the team and organisation, so we’re looking for someone who is who is well organised, details-focused and can use their initiative to do what works. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to build relationships with people and be willing to learn. There are lots of opportunities for growth and development in this role – and for the right candidate to make the role their own.

If you feel you have the skills to make a real impact and contribute to creating lasting social change for children and families, we would love to hear from you.

Important information

We have increased the diversity of Frontline’s workforce in the last 12 months, but we need to do more to have greater global majority representation in our senior roles. We know the value global majority voices bring and therefore, we are strongly encouraging applicants from these backgrounds to apply. We are also a disability confident employer and welcome applicants with disabilities.

We recognise that artificial intelligence (AI) such as ‘ChatGPT’ etc can be useful for applicants e.g. to shorten an initial draft, so we do not attempt to have an absolute ban on AI in applications. However we would caution applicants not to rely too much on AI in drafting answers to application questions. We want to hear your authentic voice arising out of your experience, and we will be looking for answers that use examples and experiences that are specific to you. You are more likely to be able to produce that kind of content yourself than an AI will.

We reserve the right to close this role ahead of the deadline once we reach a suitable number of applications, so please apply as soon as you can!

This role is ineligible for sponsorship and so all applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

For further information about this role, please contact Karen Hewer, Interim Head of Delivery (North) (see job pack for contact details).
