The role: Our scholars are eager to meet graduates and professionals who can support them in achieving their ambitions. Mentors are mainly responsible for providing support and career advice to pupils. Mentors must also be committed to supporting us at our events, which take place in the evenings and on Saturdays throughout the term. These events include our scholar enrichment days, our parent and pupil information sessions and our volunteer social events which are held in London.
Availability: Mentors must be available for approximately 2-3 hours a month to meet with their mentee and discuss via phone, email or in person. There is a minimum commitment of one year (three terms).
In addition to this, you will need to support a minimum of 2 events throughout the year. Enrichment and skill-building events for our scholars usually take place in the evenings and at weekends, with events ranging from 2-8 hours in length.
Location: Mentoring sessions and events can take place online or in person.
Responsibilities:

Working collaboratively with parents to give students guidance and advice on how to achieve their aspirations

Informing pupils of opportunities to them so that they can achieve their aspirations

Meeting with pupils for one to one mentoring sessions

Supporting pupils with university, sixth form or job applications

Monitoring and reporting on each pupils progress

Giving feedback to parents and programme coordinators

Working collaboratively with other tutors and mentors

Supporting at events including:

Collaborate effectively with other volunteers within the events team

Assist with setting up and clearing up at events
-
Support workshop facilitators with managing groups of young people or parents

Assist with the coordination of lunch or refreshments for attendees

Assist the event coordinator with ensuring the health and safety of attendees and overall risk management at events

Give feedback to the event coordinators and programme managers at the end of each event.

About the volunteer role
To provide our volunteers with opportunities to gain a variety of skills and experience, we offer them a range of volunteer roles to choose from, which include:
- Stock preparation volunteer
- Volunteer shop sales assistant

- Specialist knowledge volunteer (antiques and collectables)

Key tasks
There is a variety of tasks within the above mentioned roles that our volunteers get involved with, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers with their purchases, providing them with great customer service and a delightful shopping experience
- Receiving donated items from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated items for sale
- Creating visually appealing window and in-store displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, clean and coordinated
- Processing sales and serving at the till
- Signing up gift aid donors
- Stock rotation
- Identifying special or valuable items within donated stock

A bit about this role...
Please note - Due to the nature of fundraising roles, our volunteers must be over the age of 18.
As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.
As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!
What can I expect to be doing?
As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets.

Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full.

Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.

Engaging with your local branches and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team!

How much time is expected of me?
Our Fundraising Volunteer roles are very flexible, often certain times of the year are busier than others. You can choose your level of involvement to suit your schedule!

- Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
- Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
- Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
- Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
- Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
- Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection
Time commitment

Why Volunteer with VoiceAbility
Volunteering with VoiceAbility gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community by helping others ensure their voices are heard and valued. The roles we offer are deeply rewarding and may challenge you in new ways. You’ll develop your communication skills, meet new people, and gain a greater understanding of others, while enjoying a sense of personal fulfilment along the way!
We ask for a minimum commitment of just 3 hours per week, but you’re welcome to volunteer for more if you’d like. Whether you're looking to give back to your community, learn something new, or simply enjoy connecting with others, we’d love to have you on board!
Support Session Volunteer
You’ll be supporting people over the age of 18 with disabilities, this may include those with poor mental health, learning difficulties, autism and other disabilities. Your role will include supporting clients to understand and undertake a task on a one-to-one basis. The task will vary from client to client as will the needs of the individual.
As a support session volunteer, you might:
- help people have their say when it matters most
- Helping individuals navigate challenges and ensuring their needs are met
- help people to make complaints and use local services
All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00. You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.
