This is an opportunity to play a key role in the leadership of Sussex Area Ramblers by supporting the Chair in the oversight and direction of all Area activities, making sure that they are consistent, integrated and in line with Ramblers' mission and strategy.
The Ramblers, which celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2025, is the only charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to improving Britain’s most popular and least-known walking places. We’re committed to campaigning to keep our countryside open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers. We lead the way, and the walks, for a vibrant community united by the joys of walking, helping everyone get more out of their walks.
The Vice-Chair supports the Area Chair in the leadership of Ramblers' activities in East and West Sussex including the provision through the Groups in the Area of organised walks, helping to ensure the Groups are run well, follow good practice and join in national/Area initiatives, the protection of rights of way, and and the preservation and conservation of, the countryside, includung representing the Area to external stakeholders.
The Vice-Chair deputises for the Area Chair, as required, at meetings of the Area leadership teams (Area Council and Area Executive Committee), represents the Area at meetings of the Ramblers' South East Regional Cluster and, in agreement with the Area Chair, leads specific projects in which the Area is engaged, making sure in all cases that Ramblers' policies and procedures are followed with a view to ensuring that the Area, its members and volunteers are kept safe and legally compliant.
The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in managing the Area's working relationship with local authorities, organisations and politicians.
The Vice-Chair assists the Chair by making sure that the Area follows all of the required governance, including AGMs and attendance at Ramblers' General Council Meetings.
The role holderwill work closely with the Chair and other members of the Area Executive Committee and Area Council, and where necessary seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' central office.
You will need to be a member of the Ramblers and live in East or West Sussex to hold the role.

About the role?
Our Trustees play a critical role in the organisation, helping set the strategy and review progress in relation to it, providing support, challenge and expertise to the Chief Executive and Directors.
A Trustee plays an essential role in seeking to maximise VoiceAbility’s positive impact as well as to stretch and hold to account the Chief Executive.
The role also has ultimate responsibility for the compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring that the organisation acts in line with its charitable objectives and is financially stable. Trustees work as a team, applying good judgement and taking collective responsibility.
About you
We are looking for a Trustee with sound independent judgement, strategic vision and the ability to think creatively. You will embody the organisations values and act in the best interests of the charity at all times.
You will be engaged and motivated by the work of VoiceAbility and be able to build strong relationships and have experience of working as a non-Executive director or Trustee; however, lived experience is equally important.
We are seeking to recruit Trustees who bring Expertise in Finance, Safeguarding, Human Resources, Commercial and Operational Delivery.
Time commitment
Approximately one day per month. Please note that this time commitment will be spread across multiple days and is likely to be cyclical.
There are four board meetings per annum. Board meetings tend to be online, but face-to-face, or hybrid meetings may take place from time to time. There would also be a commitment of two to four committee meetings per annum, a board strategy or development day and site visits. Each trustee will also belong to at least one committee.

To create lasting social change, we need to give the public the right information and tools to inspire real, sustainable behaviour changes.
We have a team at RNIB working on this, and we’d love you to join us. To succeed, we need a diverse group of volunteers, who reflect the people we’re trying to reach. You will also work alongside our panel of blind and partially sighted community members.
In this role, you will:
· Share ideas on the best ways to encourage behaviour change.
· Help make sure our messaging connects with the public.
· Co-design and co-produce materials that support behaviour change and maximise the panel’s impact.
· Review content, giving feedback and suggestions.
· Support the production of other resources as needed.
An understanding of sight loss is not required before taking on the role.

Leeds Mind appoints external co-opted members to its relevant committees in order to strengthen the breadth of experience and skills available. It recognises the very valuable contribution that co-opted members make to the success of Leeds Mind and wants co-opted members to feel that the job they do is rewarding and satisfying.
Co-opted members are expected to contribute their professional, specialist, generalist and management skills to Leeds Mind’s committees in a non-executive role.
This role provides strategic insight, challenge, and support to the Quality and Performance Committee, with a specific focus on race equity and broader EDIB issues. The role will help ensure the charity’s services and internal practices are aligned with the NHS Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF) and tailored to meet the unique needs of the communities we serve.
As a minimum, co-opted members are expected to prepare for and attend all meetings of the relevant committee. Committee meetings are held quarterly and are up to two hours in duration.
Additionally, it would be beneficial, for the co-opted member to attend Leeds Mind’s Race Equity Steering Group on a bi-monthly basis where possible to enhance understanding of developing strategic and operational work.
Key tasks & responsibilities
• Strategic Oversight & Advice
- Advise on the integration of race equity and EDI principles into the charity’s quality assurance and performance frameworks.
- Support alignment with the PCREF while adapting approaches to reflect the charity’s values, mission, and community needs.
• Service Equity
- Provide scrutiny and guidance on how services are designed, delivered, and evaluated to ensure equitable access, experience, and outcomes for racialised and marginalised communities.
- Champion culturally responsive and trauma-informed care models.
• Workforce Equity
- Advise on HR practices, workforce development, and organisational culture to promote race equity and inclusion.
- Support the charity in developing inclusive recruitment, retention, and progression strategies.
• Data & Impact
- Support the committee in interpreting and using data to monitor disparities, drive improvement, and measure impact.
- Promote the use of lived experience and qualitative insights alongside quantitative metrics.
• Governance & Accountability
- Contribute to the committee’s assurance role by challenging assumptions, identifying risks, and promoting transparency in equity-related performance.
- Ensure the charity remains accountable to the communities it serves, particularly those most affected by mental health inequalities.

- Get to know Leeds Mind through discussion with the Chair, CEO, Trustees, staff, volunteers and service users, reading relevant papers and participating in events

Trustee vacancies. Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the charity achieves its core objects as set out in the governing documents. They oversee the overall management, finances and administration of Dove Cottage and ensure that the charity is successfully implementing a clear strategy in line with our vision. Trustees are also there to support and constructively challenge the senior staff team (the Dove Cottage Manager and Income Generation and Marketing Manager).
The trustees of Dove Cottage have a responsibility to:
· Support and provide advice on Dove Cottage’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
· Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
· Oversee Dove Cottage’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
· Provide leadership to the board and to ensure that trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity.
· Support and, where appropriate, provide constructive challenge to the executive manager.
· Ensure that the board as a whole works well and in partnership with key staff.
· Ensure the effective administration of the charity.
· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled.
· Review and approve Dove Cottage’s financial statements.
· Provide support and challenge to senior staff, specifically the Dove Cottage Manager and the Income Generation and Marketing Manager in the exercise of their delegated authority and responsibilities.
· Keep abreast of changes in Dove Cottage’s operating environment.
· Contribute to regular reviews of Dove Cottage’s governance arrangements.
· Attend board meetings, well prepared to contribute to discussions.
· Exercise independent judgement, acting legally and in good faith to protect Dove Cottage’s interest, to the exclusion of your own/third-party interests.
· Ensure appropriate accountability to LOROS as sole member.
· Contribute to the promotion of Dove Cottage’s objects, aims and reputation through the application of your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
Working hours/commitment
All trustees are required to:
· Attend at least four board meetings each year, although trustees may together decide to change the frequency of meetings.
· Attend the charity’s Annual General Meeting and any extraordinary general meetings should these be required.
Meetings will usually be held in person at the hospice in Stathern. There will be times when trustees need to be actively involved beyond board meetings. This may involve visiting the hospice, tea room and shops, helping out at events, scrutinising papers, leading discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, responding to complaints and concerns, and getting involved in various matters about which they have a special expertise.
