CPRE North and East Yorkshire campaigns to protect, enhance and promote the countryside for everyone’s benefit. We cover the largest CPRE region in England, spanning 6,900 square miles from the River Tees to Goole (south of the River Humber) and west from the Yorkshire Dales to the East Yorkshire coast.

We actively support biodiversity improvement and champion countryside protection from climate change impacts, while contributing to climate solutions.

Our small but energetic team of volunteer trustees helps people to protect the countryside they love. We have a successful track record of enabling residents and community groups to shape proposed development in ways that enrich their rural communities and the countryside around them. We also use our planning expertise to proactively campaign for local authority planning policies that safeguard and enhance our beautiful and varied landscapes.

About the roles

We are seeking two exceptional individuals to join our board of trustees, each bringing specialist expertise while sharing general trustee responsibilities for developing our charity in line with our strategy and ensuring compliance with all legal and governance requirements.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to our beautiful countryside while developing valuable skills in charity governance and leadership. You will join a friendly, supportive board where your expertise will be valued and your contribution will make a tangible difference to countryside protection across North and East Yorkshire. We provide initial training, ongoing support and the chance to be part of a passionate team working on issues that matter.

You will gain valuable experience in charity governance, broaden your network and have the opportunity to participate in social events and workshops at local and national levels. Most importantly, you will use your skills to help find positive solutions for the major challenges facing our countryside and environment.

Who we are looking for

Trustee with finance expertise

As finance lead trustee, you’ll lead the development and review of the charity’s financial plan and its investment strategy, manage investment funds and deposit accounts and support and advise the trustee board on investment and finance matters, including financial compliance. You’ll also undertake some treasurer responsibilities by preparing and maintaining accounting records, financial reports and annual financial statements.

We are looking for an individual with experience leading the financial management of an SME or division of a medium to large organisation. You will bring good independent judgement and strategic vision, whilst offering support and challenge to the board.

Trustee with governance & compliance experience

As governance & compliance lead trustee, you’ll support and advise the trustee board on governance and risk management. You will lead on risk management for the charity and on policy development and review. You’ll also undertake some secretary responsibilities, ensuring compliance with our constitution, charity law and regulations.

We are looking for an individual with experience in leading on governance, compliance or company secretarial duties in a commercial or not for profit setting, who has some knowledge of UK charity law and best practice and, if not current, readiness to learn and develop. This person could bring experience as a company secretary, legal, board secretary or risk and compliance/governance professional.

Our trustees are passionate about countryside protection. You will bring strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and a commitment to our charitable aims. Previous trustee experience is not required as we provide comprehensive training and support.

As a Teaching Quality Assessor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality Islamic essentials education across universities in the UK. This volunteer will assess the teaching quality of Roots Essentials courses, providing feedback and recommendations to support continuous improvement. The role supports the team’s goal of maintaining high educational standards and providing an enriching learning experience for university students.

Key tasks

▪ Observation and Assessment: Observe classes (in-person or virtually) and assess the teaching quality, content delivery, and student engagement based on established criteria.

▪ Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching methods, course materials, and assessments used in delivering the Roots Essentials Curriculum.

▪ Feedback and Reporting: Provide constructive feedback to instructors on teaching quality and suggest areas for improvement.

▪ Quality Assurance: Ensure that the curriculum is being delivered in a manner that aligns with the programme’s educational objectives and Islamic principles.

▪ Collaboration: Work closely with the Education Vice-Lead and Academic team to support the professional development of instructors.

▪ Documentation: Prepare reports summarizing observations, evaluations, and recommendations for enhancing the educational experience.

▪ Training Contribution: Contribute to the development and delivery of training materials or workshops for instructors to improve teaching practices.

What we’re looking for

▪ A background in Islamic studies, education, or a related field, with a good understanding of foundational Islamic knowledge.

▪ Previous experience in teaching, assessing, or quality assurance in an educational setting, preferably within Islamic education.

▪ Strong skills in classroom observation, evaluation, and providing constructive feedback.

▪ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with instructors and programme staff.

▪ A strong commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of Islamic education in a university setting.

Task Management Team Overview

Purpose: To ensure all tasks across CLICK UP and other YAUK systems are current, compliant with GDPR, and aligned with pre-set standards defined by the Head of IT & Systems in consultation with C-Level leadership.

Core Duties:

• Tag task assignees and request updates in line with standards

• Tag direct supervisors to ensure compliance

• Review all tasks across YAUK for standard alignment

• Ensure GDPR compliance across task records

• Provide regular organisational task performance data

Senior Task Management Officer (2 Positions)

Role Summary: Senior Officers act as intermediaries between the Manager and Officers, ensuring consistent application of standards and supporting the review process.

Reports to: Task Management Manger 

Type: Voluntary, flexible, part time, 5 to 10hrs per week

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead task reviews across assigned YAUK departments

• Support Officers in tagging and compliance checks

• Liaise with supervisors to resolve tasking issues

• Assist in training new Officers on standards and systems

• Report progress and challenges to the Manager

Ideal Skills:

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.
