First aider volunteer volunteer roles

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. Attend a community first aider course, and at least monthly attendance of a network meeting night (currently held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 20:00-22:00)

Selection will be in person or via MS Teams as applications are received.

Do you live in Merseyside? Do you want to be the difference between a life saved and a life lost? We're now recruiting for Community First Aiders across Merseyside (including Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley and St Helens)

The succesful candidate would be expected to attend their Network's meeting on a regular basis, as well as attend all training required for the role (typically a weekend plus additional e-learning). In addition, due to the nature of the role, Community First Aiders must commit to a minimum of 80 hours per year delivering first aid at events and community engagement.

Once shortlisted, candidates will be invited to attend a selection centre at our Liverpool HQ, which is likely to take place in early February.
Successful candidates will be invited to an induction day upon completion of their screening for role. This is expected to be in late March, but is dependent on completion of screening checks.

Training for role will consist of a weekend of face to face training, which is likely to be run in late March or early April (again dependent on completion of screening checks).

We are looking for volunteers in Buckinghamshire, including Milton Keynes area.

Volunteers would be expected to attend regular network training evenings, on line training and specific face to face training for the role. Once trained for the role would be expected to assist at First Aid, PR and fundraising events.

Candidates will need to be available to attend an all day Selection event that will be held on Saturday 28th February 2026 at the St John Ambulance Headquarters in Aylesbury.

Following the selection event, successful candidates will need to attend a Welcome event on Saturday 14th March in Aylesbury. On line training plus face to face classroom training.

You will need to complete 2 days of face to face training in addition to elearning for this role. You will be expected to deliver 80 hours of event per year including event first aid, fundraising and community engagement. Weekly sessions currently take place in Huddersfield on Mondays to keep your training up to date, further training nights across Kirklees and Calderdale are currently being looked into.

Interviews will take place on Monday evenings throughout February and March.

This is an opportunity to learn first aid skills and, as part of a dedicated team, make a difference in your community. It is a entry level role; further opportunities will be available to advance these skills to a higher level if you wish to progress.

Need to commit to attending initial training course and an ongoing commitment to attend training evenings and first aid events once qualified.
