Head of Individual Giving

We’re looking for an experienced and creative Head of Individual Giving to lead and grow our individual giving programme.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you’ll shape and deliver our individual giving strategy, overseeing the recruitment, retention and development of individual supporters. You’ll lead on our major appeals, including an annual national campaign to Catholic parishes across the UK.

You’ll also play a key role in developing new fundraising products, optimising donor journeys, and ensuring our CRM and data systems support excellent stewardship and insight-driven decision making. This is a senior position with significant scope to shape the programme and make your mark.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver short, medium and long-term public fundraising plans and budgets, monitoring income and expenditure.
• Oversee the creation and evolution of fundraising products and propositions to ensure strong ROI and audience resonance.
• Champion public fundraising within integrated campaigns, maximising predictable, unrestricted income through regular giving, in memory and legacy programmes.
• Lead individual giving activity, including online appeals, Christmas appeal and auction, with a strong focus on stewardship and retention.
• Plan and deliver an annual cycle of supporter communications, including appeals, newsletters and impact reporting.
• Optimise third party and online fundraising channels (including Facebook and Instagram).
• Lead the legacy programme, embedding gifts in wills messaging across the organisation.
• Support families to fundraise with care, professionalism and sensitivity.
• Grow income from grassroots and community organisations (schools, faith groups, golf clubs and more), focusing on £1k–£5k opportunities.
• Manage and develop the challenge events portfolio (e.g. Hackney Half, London Landmarks, Royal Parks, London Marathon), ensuring excellent participant stewardship and maximum income.

You will bring:

• Proven experience delivering short, medium and long-term fundraising plans and budgets.
• Experience in at least one key public fundraising area (individual giving, challenge events, community fundraising, legacy or in memory).
• Strong relationship building skills with high emotional intelligence.
• A creative, growth oriented and commercially minded approach.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including crafting compelling impact stories.
• CRM experience (e.g. Donorfy or similar).
• Line management experience (formal or informal).
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Exceptional time management within a dynamic environment.

We are recruiting for a Group Media Manager

Summary

This role has a crucial part to play in Nesta’s success, using the media as a key channel in building Nesta’s influence, profile and impact. Working as part of an expert communications team, you will plan and deliver media activity targeting policymakers and the wider policy and government communities, as well as specific practitioner groups or segments of the public.

Your focus will be largely but not exclusively on our three missions; health, decarbonising heat, and early years. You will also work widely and flexibly on a range of broader topics, collaborating with experts across all of Nesta, as well as working with researchers and behavioural scientists at BIT.

You will take a flexible approach to media audiences, focusing on traditional and legacy media as key sources of influence but also leaning heavily into ‘newer’ outlets and platforms, ranging from policy podcasts to media startups and key Substack influencers, as essential routes to the audiences we need to reach and engage.

This is a hands-on role that combines the tactical delivery of media activity with the strategic planning that is required to build Nesta’s media profile, protect our reputation and position us as an organisation that is a world leader in driving innovation for social good.

What you’ll be doing:

Lead on the development and delivery of UK media plans that support the strategic objectives of Nesta and BIT

• Work collaboratively to shape stories that involve a cross-functional range of colleagues from disciplines including data science, design, behaviour science and policy and research
• Actively seek out proactive opportunities to build our profile among journalists in our three mission areas (health, decarbonising homes, early years), as well as more generally
• Work with colleagues at BIT to grow and build the reputation of the organisation as a world-class research and innovation consultancy that uses a deep understanding of human behaviour to improve people's lives.
• Accelerate our journey from a primarily legacy media-focused media team to a hybrid model where ‘newer media’ is just as important, building relationships with these outlets, writers and broadcasters and securing high-impact coverage
• Monitor relevant breaking news stories and political and policy developments, identifying and quickly capitalising on relevant opportunities for Nesta’s missions and brand
• Protect Nesta’s reputation, develop and implement crisis management media strategies and rebuttal as required
• Identify, develop and maintain relationships with key media and internal and external stakeholders, including taking the lead on managing and coordinating internal and external relationships to progress media stories, statements and positions, with often competing priorities and time pressure
• Develop and maintain Nesta’s cohort of case studies across its consumer-facing projects and services, building relationships with these contacts as advocates of Nesta’s mission goals
• Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Nesta press office through developing shared resources and reporting key success metrics
• Support colleagues in the Nesta communications team by guiding and supporting their media outreach, and by acting as a source of expert advice on media for the rest of the organisation
• Covering media enquiries out of hours as and when required
• Deputising for the senior media manager as and when required 

What we’re looking for:

• Professional media relations experience (essential): You will have proven experience of working in a busy press office (ideally a policy-focused media team), with at least 80% of your time spent on media. A creative thinker and experienced writer and editor, you will have experience working on a variety of stories and you think cross-channel. You have a solid understanding of how the media environment works, how it's changing and what that demands from organisations like Nesta and BIT.
• Knowledge and understanding of the UK policy context (essential): You will have worked at the interface of communications and policy, possibly in government, a thinktank, NGO or in the private sector. You will appreciate the pace, nuance and strategic thinking required to operate in a media team that is deeply connected across government, industry and practitioner groups
• Excellent writing skills (essential): You will be a superb writer, capable of adapting your style across different channels to reach audiences in the most effective way. The ability to work quickly and flexibly in the role is important. You will be as comfortable advising on a longer-term strategic project as you will be turning around flawless copy on a breaking news story.
• Project delivery skills (essential): You will have proven experience in delivering high-impact communications campaigns from conception to delivery and evaluation. You can proactively plan and deliver work, identify and act on risks and find solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills (essential): You will have experience in applying these effectively to collaborate well with colleagues, build stakeholder relationships and develop partnerships. You bring with you a bank of trusted contacts and you are always looking to expand your range of trusted contacts across media.

As with all members of Nesta Group's communications team, the post holder will be at their best working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities. They will have a positive, can-do attitude and a flexible approach, able to adapt to changing circumstances with good humour and an appetite for taking on new tasks and challenges. They will also have strong communication skills, the ability to write and edit content for different audiences and a proven ability in (or enthusiasm to learn) web publishing and the creation of simple communications products like social cards or videos.

What we offer

Salary: £49,200 - £65,800 plus an array of benefits including private medical insurance, dental insurance, the ability to buy and sell annual leave, eyecare vouchers and more. Offers are usually made at the bottom of the band.

Location: Hybrid, with two days per week in the London office. We ask that our team attend the office on Tuesday and one other day of their choice.

Term: Full-time, permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Occasional out-of-hours work (evenings, weekends, and public holidays) will be required to fulfil the role.

Flexibility: This is a full-time role, but we offer a range of flexible working arrangements and encourage our people to take advantage of them. Many do.

You will work closely with the Senior Manager: Learning to ensure that the design and delivery of the Trust’s Learning Programme is innovative, creative and responsive to the creative, cultural, practical and wellbeing needs of community interest.

Strategic Leadership and Curriculum Development

• Clear understanding of the national and local policy context of the Adult Education Sector with a focus on: impact on funding or impact on the future curriculum.

• Offer clear academic and managerial leadership to all teaching staff involved with the programme and to deploy and organise the team in a way that makes the most effective and efficient use of all team members.
• Working with the team to foster a culture of pride and ownership, setting high expectations and supporting operational discipline and best practice.
• Ensure the effective management of the Adult Learning budget.
• Provide timely and impactful information to the Board of Trustees committees and in support of funding bids as required.
• Co-ordinate the assessment and internal verification process where appropriate, including liaison with the external verifier and preparing for the External Verifier visit.
• To carry out internal verification as required and adhere to quality frameworks, such as the Education Inspection Framework, Internal Quality Assurance and External Quality Assurance requirements.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience and up-to-date knowledge of policies, funding frameworks, initiatives and developments of Adult Education.
• Designing and delivering an innovative and distinctive creative/cultural practice curriculum programme in response to identified market needs and to successfully attract new students.
• Managing a diverse team in an educational setting or learning environment, proactively creating a positive working environment and effectively leading a high performing team that contributes to organisational success.
• Working with awarding and Quality Assurance bodies to ensure compliance with identified standards.
• A track record of working with external audit organisations e.g. Awarding Bodies and Ofsted
• Knowledge of the Education Inspection Framework and funding methodologies and their impact on courses and programmes of learning.
• Knowledge of national, regional and local priorities for adult and community learning services.
• Excellent communication skills and an ability to adapt approach to engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable:

Qualifications:

Bioregional Learning Centre (BLC) is a place-based systems-change organisation rooted in South Devon. We work with communities, institutions and landscapes to grow the capacities needed for a regenerative, climate resilient, bioregional future.

We are seeking a Bioregional Learning Manager to help design and run a new learning programme in bioregional practice and to coordinate the emerging Bioregional Learning Alliance – an international community of practitioner-educators.

This is a new kind of role. We’re not looking for a ‘finished article’ or a conventional academic. We’re looking for someone who is values-led, curious and organised, and who wants to co-create something pioneering alongside others.

The role

You will:

• Co-design and evolve a practice-led curriculum in bioregional learning and leadership (online and in-person).
• Plan and manage courses and events, including a South Devon learning pathway and international partner offers.
• Coordinate the BLA, supporting meetings, communication and light-touch governance.
• Build and steward relationships with practitioners, communities and partner institutions (including universities and learning centres).
• Support communications, evaluation and programme administration (budgets, contracts, logistics).

Essential skills & experience

We expect you to bring most of the following:

• Deep alignment with regenerative, place-based and more-than-human ways of working
• Experience designing, coordinating or delivering adult / professional learning (formal or informal)

About The Role

Events are a key component in our visitors’ experience at a WWT site and we have big ambitions to develop and deliver an even stronger calendar of innovative events in 2026 and beyond.

Working with the Head of Interpretation and Programming and the Centre Managers, you will lead on the development of new seasonal events, from ideation and concept stage to multi-site implementation, with the objective of driving new and repeat visitation. You will be responsible for the creation of bespoke ‘home-grown’ events as well as developing partnerships with external organisations that deliver licensed content for branded events.

Role Purpose:

Working closely with the Director of Programmes to manage and help develop a portfolio of funds across Access’s enterprise grant, blended finance and capacity building work, the role holder will be the day-to-day point of contact for a portfolio of social investors, enterprise grant providers and other organisations funded by Access.

It is anticipated that this role holder may particularly specialise in the management of enterprise development funds, and those that are more local (place-based) throughout England.

The role will balance responsibilities including supporting and assessing funding proposals, managing performance via regular data submission and meetings, providing support from within and beyond Access’s own team, supporting peer learning between delivery partners and seeking to ensure that lessons and experience across Access’s programmes are maximised.

You will be part of a small organisation of around 15 people that take a flexible, collaborative and trust-based approach to work.

Key Responsibilities:

 Relationship Management

• Be the day to day point of contact for a portfolio of organisations who are applying for funding and/or delivering Access’s programmes.
• Build strong productive and supportive working relationships with delivery partners, in a spirit of collaborative endeavour and learning.
• Maintain comprehensive and clear records on Access’s systems of the status of the relationship and any key questions or issues which are currently being addressed.
• Seek to build an understanding of the underling impact of the delivery of our funds on the work of the charities and social enterprises they exist to support.

Performance Management

• Following an agreed pattern and schedule, regularly meet and speak to the delivery partners to receive updates on performance, and key issues.
• Ensure robust financial management of funds, including monitoring deployment targets of partners, managing budgets and the process for drawing funds from Access.
• Ensure that regular performance data is submitted to a high quality and in an agreed format with each delivery partner. Perform checks to ensure accuracy and check understanding with the delivery partner.
• Ensuring the uploading of data into Access’s management systems and producing the required performance reports for internal and external use.
• Use this performance data to analyse performance within each delivery partner and across the portfolio, including supporting the publication of a quarterly dashboard. Work closely with colleagues to identify trends and understand reasons for those trends.
• Work with delivery partners to address areas of under-performance, escalating issues where necessary to the Director of Programmes and Access committees.

Guidance and Support

• Use performance data and insight from different partners within the portfolio to identify opportunities to support partners with, for example, peer support around areas of good practice.
• Offer expertise within Access and across partner organisations to support delivery partners in particular aspects of their work.
• Where challenges are common across many delivery partners, work with colleagues and the Director of Programmes to develop shared solutions, tools, or learning resources which might address those challenges.
• Support the design and delivery of external events, including peer-learning events.

Facilitating and supporting decision making

• Reviewing and co-developing plans and proposals in collaboration with partners.
• Writing papers including assessment papers for Access committees, presenting clear information and context to aid understanding and decision making.
• Present analysis based on performance data and qualitative insight to inform decisions within the team about ongoing relationships with delivery partners.
• Actively participating in the peer-review of assessment papers produced by other colleagues in the Programmes team.

Role Summary

As a University Partnership Manager at upReach, you will play a vital role in securing and growing high-impact partnerships with universities committed to social mobility.

Reporting to the Head of Partnerships within the Income Generation and External Engagement team, you will be responsible for developing new strategic relationships, championing our partners' voices across upReach, and working closely with our Programmes Team to oversee a portfolio of university partners. You’ll lead stakeholder engagement, take ownership of partnership outcomes and work collaboratively across upReach with our marketing, impact and programme teams.

Core Responsibilities

You will play a critical role in advancing upReach’s mission by generating income and leading upReach’s University Partnerships strategy. Creating life-changing opportunities for our Associates through high-impact university partnerships. You will be directly supporting the organisation's strategic priorities: driving sustainable income growth, enhancing programme impact and expanding our reach as a national charity.

The core responsibilities include:

Develop and Secure New Strategic University Partnerships

• Proactively identify, cultivate, and convert a pipeline of four and five-figure prospective university partners aligned with upReach’s mission and strategic goals.

• Lead high-quality prospecting and relationship-building activity, targeting income-generating partnerships that also deliver high-impact opportunities for Associates.

• Build strong relationships with key contacts at potential partners, including senior stakeholders within widening participation, employability, and careers teams, through regular in-person and virtual meetings.

• Deliver compelling, insight-driven proposals and presentations tailored to organisational priorities and demonstrating mutual value.

Stakeholder Representation and Engagement

• Act as a visible representative of upReach at key partner events, conferences, and roundtables, building relationships, showcasing our impact, and raising our external profile.

Monitor and Grow Existing University Partnerships

• Responsibility for a portfolio of upReach’s existing university partners, ensuring effective stewardship of the day-to-day relationship with high satisfaction, sustainable renewal and growth.

• Set and monitor partnership goals and OKRs, leading regular reviews and performance reporting.

• Identify opportunities to deepen and broaden engagement with existing partners, including expanding partnership activities.

• Collaborate with the Student Attraction and Programme teams to engage the university in identifying & promoting the programme.

• Working closely with upReach’s Programme teams to ensure partnerships and programmes are delivered to a high standard.

• Lead on university partnership health reviews and mid-year partner reviews to ensure any issues are dealt with effectively, promptly and collaboratively.

Partnership Visibility and Impact

• Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications to co-create high-quality content and campaigns that showcase our strategic partnerships through university guides, case studies, thought leadership, social media, and joint events.

• Lead on impact reporting for your partnership portfolio, using both data and compelling stories to evidence the outcomes of the partnership and drive continued engagement.

• Proactively identify and deliver opportunities for partners to amplify the voice of upReach; through our external events, fundraising opportunities and sharing social-media collateral that promotes our work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Innovation

• Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure timely and accurate invoicing and contracting for all University partnerships, supporting effective financial management.

• Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of partnership activity using upReach’s internal CRM and systems, enabling effective reporting, forecasting and stewardship.

• Uphold the organisation’s legal and ethical obligations, including data protection, charity law, and compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

• Manage and support a rotation of the Future Charity Leaders Programme, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities.

• Meet monthly with University Leads (the Programme Coordinator responsible for day-to-day university activities) to set partnership priorities, monitor stakeholder KPIs (onboarding, engagement), and deliver updates to universities.

• Contribute to the achievement of income targets aligned with upReach’s strategic goals, identifying and progressing opportunities to drive revenue growth.

• Engage fully in the annual appraisal process, setting ambitious, SMART objectives that align with organisational priorities and your personal development.

Main Duties
