Overview:
Spires supports homeless and vulnerably housed people in South London. This role focuses on trusts, foundations, and government funding, working closely with the CEO to maintain strong funder relationships and deliver compelling bids.
Spires has undergone a period of rapid transformation, moving to a model of multi-site working across three London Boroughs. Our core services include, day centre style drop-ins for homeless people, a Women’s drop in, a Refugee drop in and outreach targeted at supporting Women who are sex working.
Part 1: Job profile
1.1 Purpose of job
To generate income from a diverse funding pool that includes trusts, foundations, government and other funding sources as appropriate. Trusts and foundations remain the primary funding source for Spires so maintaining consistent application output is a core element of the role.
To manage our relationships with funders which will include reporting, networking and proactive engagement.
Work with Spires CEO and the Head of Client Services to ensure that data and outcomes are being effectively captured in a way that is helpful for evidencing impact.
1.2 Position in organisation
The post holder will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Whilst not an operational role, the post holder will maintain a connection to our services so as to be able to represent the service accurately in funding bids.
Part 2: Key duties and responsibilities
2.1 Income generation
- Maximise existing and find new income to meet agreed income targets.
- Research, write and present attractive propositions for a range of quality funding bids, proposals and documentation.
- Produce and submit quality funding reports to meet deadlines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fundraising regulations, networks and developments across the sector, advising on best practice
2.3 Planning, monitoring and reporting
- Contribute to internal planning and budget setting, setting out clear plans for income generation.
- Contribute to forecasting and regular reporting, producing verbal and written reports for the CEO.
- Actively manage contracts to ensure that Spires is delivering agreed outcomes and spending restricted funds correctly.
2.4 General
- Feed into the updated fundraising strategy.
- Undertaking other duties compatible with the level and nature of the post and/or reasonably required by more senior members of staff.

Part 3: Person specification
3.1 Essential experience
- Experience of working in the fundraising sector in a professional capacity
- Experience of securing significant grants or multi-year funding from trusts or statutory sources
- A demonstrable track record of successfully generating income and achieving targets
- Producing impact and evaluation reports for funders
- Writing for different audiences/contexts

Part 4: Summary of terms and conditions of service
Location: The postholder will be an employee of The Spires Centre. This post is based at 2nd Floor, Elmfield House, 5 Stockwell Mews, SW9 9GX This role will by hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home.
Probation: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Notice: This post is subject to an 12 weeks’ notice period once confirmed in post.
Annual leave: The annual leave entitlement is 35 days per year including 8 bank holidays.
Pension: The Spires Centre will contribute 5% of annual salary for those who qualify for our group pension plan.
Other benefits: The Spires Centre will provide life and income protection insurance for those who qualify for our group plans.
Expenses: This role will require travel within London. Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid when incurred in accordance with our expenses policy.
Safeguarding: The postholder will adhere to The Spires Centre’s safeguarding policy for vulnerable adults.
DBS Check: Because of the need to interact with our vulnerable clients a satisfactory enhanced DBS check will be required.

In the decade to 2030 we aim for 30% of Suffolk to be connected and well looked after for nature and for 1 in 4 people in Suffolk actively helping to make that happen. This role is about building the public power to get us there through mobilising communities, strengthening local movements and driving visible, people-led action that influences decision-makers & accelerates nature recovery.
The post holder will lead & deliver public-facing campaigns that build support for nature recovery and shift local and regional decisions. That includes creating campaign moments and public actions through workshops, petitions, creative stunts, digital mobilisation and days of action alongside delivering campaigning workshops to young people and engaging communities of all ages.
You’ll also mobilise people for action, recruiting and supporting activists, volunteers and community leaders across Suffolk. You’ll develop local campaign groups and activist networks, provide training and mentoring and help nurture an inclusive activist culture rooted in equity, diversity and wellbeing. You’ll ensure campaigning and volunteering are safe and ethical, with appropriate safeguarding, risk assessment and safety guidance in place.
Finally, you’ll drive strategic influence, translating policy goals into public campaigns that influence councils, MPs, planners, landowners and other key decision-makers. Working closely with the Planning & Advocacy Manager, you’ll track political opportunities, coordinate response activism and use insight and evaluation to strengthen future campaign strategy.

These pivotal roles within the programme team support the effective delivery of our work within local places so that more people across the county can enjoy their later life.
Working under the programme Lead and working closely with the programme team you will take responsibility in ensuring that the local delivery plans are implemented, working with the wider stakeholders in the local community.
You will provide direct support across multiple local areas on key actions, such as leading on walking audits, take a seat campaigns, and working with local stakeholders to identify, implement and embed age friendly priorities. About SCEC
SCEC was founded over twenty years ago to provide learning enrichment opportunities to primary school children in disadvantaged communities in south London. Together with our partners, several leading independent schools, we currently operate four schemes in math, literacy, science and art. Children learn through fun, engaging group activities like science experiments, storytelling and mathematical treasure hunts, all taught by qualified teachers with added support from student mentors. Your Role
The Scheme Director is a newly created role that will be pivotal in helping SCEC extend its reach. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will help SCEC design and implement an expansion programme as well as coordinating the delivery of the existing schemes via our school partners. You will also serve as a trusted partner to the Board in the administration of the charity.
Similar to a COO, this role straddles the operational and the strategic. We are looking for a confident communicator and relationship builder who can work across varied stakeholder groups. OTR are looking for a Grants & Corporate Fundraising Coordinator to work as part of the Fundraising & Communications Team. This role is the organisational engine for income through trusts and foundation grants, and corporate fundraising, within OTR’s fundraising mix. It would suit an organised individual with a strong interest in relationship management, and proven writing abilities.
Working collaboratively with the Head of Fundraising & Communications, the post-holder will cultivate and nurture funder relationships and be responsible for researching and writing compelling case for support copy for applications. They will maintain accurate and up-to-date pipeline planning and customer relationship management (CRM) records, and, once familiar with OTR, will have the opportunity to lead on mid-level funder opportunity management.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working in fundraising, identifying and tracking funding opportunities, drafting proposals, and raising funds.

About the role
We are looking for a Welfare Benefits Adviser to work alongside the Senior Benefits Adviser, providing welfare benefits advice to people affected by ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and long Covid; this includes those living with these illnesses, carers and their families.
We endeavour to improve people’s financial situation more widely, especially due to the cost of living crisis, so you will be offered the opportunity to create resources and host drop-in sessions for members.
Main duties and responsibilities

Provide a full welfare benefits casework service for people affected by ME, fibromyalgia and long Covid, including disability benefits and other sources of financial support, such as grants. This will cover benefits check, first claims, mandatory reconsiderations and appeals; supporting clients to understand their options and making informed choices.

Act for the client where necessary; drafting letters, obtaining medical evidence and researching case law as appropriate.

Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, and information retrieval, using the IT software provided.

Liaise and negotiate with other statutory and voluntary organisations to progress the client’s case and ensure they receive all assistance available. (DWP, NHS, local authorities, other charities)

Form effective working relationships with outreach agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that good service is being provided and awareness of the illnesses is raised.

Refer clients to colleagues or other agencies as appropriate for specialist help with major issues that fall outside the remit of the service, including debt and employment.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Proven experience delivering excellent supporter or customer care, including handling enquiries and building relationships
- Experience managing fundraising administration processes such as donation handling, Gift Aid, and legacy administration
- Track record of planning and delivering successful events (in-person and online) for engagement or fundraising purposes
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to produce compelling content and engage supporters
By month 3, you'll have gained a full understanding of Spurgeons' supporter engagement strategy and successfully delivered at least one monthly supporter email. By month 6, you'll have launched at least one community fundraising initiative and one challenge event. By month 12, you'll have delivered a fully developed stewardship programme and achieved measurable improvements in supporter satisfaction and retention.
