We’re looking for a Head of Major Donors, a new role to lead our Major Donors team to grow our fundraising and support the delivery of our ambitious People & Nature thriving strategic goals.
We have a stable portfolio of individual Major Donors and Trusts & Foundations. We also know significant income growth is possible from our core and new audiences.
You’ll build and implement an ambitious plan for growing income from major donors and charitable trusts, with capacity to give between £25k-£1m and lead a newly established major donor team of around 5 relationship managers.
Working with the Head of Major Gifts and Grants, you will develop and implement joined up acquisition plans and exceptional supporter experiences, in close collaboration with the Heads of Principle Giving and Individual Giving. You will build on the successes of your team, coaching and empowering them to deliver growth in income.
We're open to discussing flexible working patterns, the requirement for this job would be a minimum of 30 hours.
Salary: circa £60,762 - £64,000 with potential flexibility based on skills and experience.

Reporting into the Head of Major Gifts and Grants, you’ll join 3 other Head roles to deliver transformational growth in Major Gifts and Grants.
The Major Gifts and Grants secure significant funding for the National Trust and build enduring partnerships that deliver lasting change.
You’ll also be part of a positive and forward-thinking fundraising extended leadership team where collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement are key.
Your contractual location will be our office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.
What you'll be doing
You’ll lead the national Major Donor team and work collaboratively with regional colleagues to deliver income targets and build a strong pipeline for future growth.
Partnering across teams, you’ll help create the right environment for growth, ensuring we have the right products and propositions to engage new major donors and to provide tailored supporter experiences, based on audience insight.
Organisation-wide, you’ll champion an audience-centric culture, building confidence in philanthropic fundraising.
Who we're looking for

- Experience in managing a philanthropy or major donor team with a demonstrable track record of achieving and surpassing 7-figure+ income targets from philanthropy and/or trusts and foundations
- Demonstrable experience of creating and implementing fundraising plans to deliver 7-figure+ growth in complex organisational settings
- Strong track record in personally cultivating, soliciting and closing 6- and 7-figure gifts
- Demonstrable ability to convert a deep understanding of UK and international philanthropy sectors into action plans to secure new donors
- Experience of creating and implementing joined up supporter journeys with other income streams to increase Lifetime Value.
Additional criteria for all other applicants:
- High-level of financial literacy with experience of managing 7-figure pipelines, 7-figure income and expenditure budgets, including reforecasts
- Experience of major donor campaign fundraising
- Good working knowledge and experience of ensuring team compliance with data protection legislation

About you:
You will be an inspiring Corporate Fundraising Head, excellentcommunicator and a natural relationship builder. You will have demonstrative experience in people management within Partnerships and ideally a strong, broad background in corporate fundraising or commerical sales. For over 50 years, Leeds Women’s Aid has been a lifeline for women and children experiencing domestic violence and abuse. The organisation has grown significantly, from a c.£600–700k income charity 10 years ago, to one now approaching £5m annual income. With this growth comes bold, renewed ambition to diversify income, strengthen influence and ensure LWA’s voice, values and impact are communicated with clarity and confidence to reach those who need them most.

This newly established Director of Income Generation & Business Development role is designed to bring together income generation, marketing and communications, and retail under one strategic umbrella to shape the next chapter of LWA’s development and impact.
As Director of Income Generation & Business Development you will set the strategic direction for all income related activity across the charity, ensuring LWA develops a sustainable, diversified income portfolio that is aligned with the charity’s purpose and values. As Director of Income Generation & Business Development you will:
- Strategically lead a multi-year income generation and business development strategy, setting key objectives and enabling diversification that aligns with LWA’s values and new organisational strategy.
- Provide strategic leadership for marketing and communications, ensuring organisational-wide narrative building that reflects the values and impact of LWA, while championing the voices of women and children.
- Ensure strategic leadership for LWA’s retail function, developing growth strategies that balance community impact alongside financial performance.
- Develop compelling, adaptable cases for support that reflect LWA’s impact and ambitions, ethically and meaningfully embedding survivors’ voices.
- Strengthen organisational resilience through income diversification beyond statutory funding, establishing strong communities of support and identifying opportunities for growth.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Services & Engagement and Director of Strategy, Partnerships & Influence to identify and develop new commissioning and business development opportunities, ensuring viability and strategic alignment.

The role would best suit:
- A senior income generation leader, with broad multi-stream experience and a proven track record of strategically driving growth and diversification of fundraised income.
- A strategic leader with the ability to develop a team across income generation, marketing and communications and retail.
- An individual with experience of developing income generation strategies that intersect with organisational strategies and ambitions.
- Someone with the ability to balance income generation with ethical storytelling/responsibility, public accountability and regulatory considerations.
- An individual who demonstrates commitment to LWA’s values and the Nolan Principles: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
- Someone with demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of, women-led and women-centred support services, including the importance of trauma-informed, inclusive, and empowering practice for women and girls.

Duties and responsibilities
- Research new opportunities for Action Tutoring to explore for fundraising and carry out initial enquiries to determine suitability to apply to trusts and foundations.
- Prepare and submit grant applications to suitable trusts, foundations and corporates, carrying out careful research to ensure the applications are as strong as possible and include relevant data and case studies.
- Work alongside the Corporate Partnerships Team to encourage corporate support through donations or grants.
- Identify and lead on local fundraising opportunities in Action Tutoring’s nine key regions, for example researching and submitting applications for local grants and to local businesses.
- Research and determine suitability of profile raising opportunities or awards for Action Tutoring to apply to, such as corporate Charity of the Year opportunities, the Third Sector Awards and Charity Awards.

Qualifications criteria:
- Previous experience in fundraising, or transferable experience that shows strong writing skills.
