The Role

Trustee Responsibilities
Trustees serve on a voluntary, unpaid basis. The primary purpose of the board is to ensure that Proteus achieves its objectives. Trustees are expected to:

Role Description:
As a Research Volunteer, you will support Revive Battery’s research and strategy efforts by conducting structured desk research, data analysis, and insight synthesis across technology, policy, market, and sustainability domains. The Vice-Chair deputises for the Area Chair, as required, at meetings of the Area leadership teams (Area Council and Area Executive Committee), represents the Area at meetings of the Ramblers' South East Regional Cluster and, in agreement with the Area Chair, leads specific projects in which the Area is engaged, making sure in all cases that Ramblers' policies and procedures are followed with a view to ensuring that the Area, its members and volunteers are kept safe and legally compliant.
The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in managing the Area's working relationship with local authorities, organisations and politicians.
The Vice-Chair assists the Chair by making sure that the Area follows all of the required governance, including AGMs and attendance at Ramblers' General Council Meetings.
The role holderwill work closely with the Chair and other members of the Area Executive Committee and Area Council, and where necessary seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' central office.

Beyond the club, we run dedicated programmes designed to foster independence and emotional well-being. For our older members aged 16–25, we offer targeted employment support, including CV writing, interview preparation and assistance in securing volunteering or training opportunities.

About the role
We seek to appoint a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership and strong governance, ensuring Caxton Youth Organisation delivers its mission and uses its resources effectively.
Working closely with the Chief Executive, the Chair will guide the board in setting direction, maintaining financial sustainability, managing risk and ensuring robust systems, policies and procedures are in place. A clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to youth leadership will be central to the role.
Leading a high-performing board of trustees, the Chair will foster collective responsibility and sound decision-making in Caxton’s long-term interests. The Eve Appeal is the leading gynaecological cancer charity. There are five gynae cancers, which are womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancer. Our aim is to prevent gynae cancers from developing in the first place, but if they do develop, we want to make sure they’re detected early so more people survive their diagnosis.
To make our goals a reality, we fund research in four key areas: uncovering the causes of gynae cancers, predicting a person’s risk of developing them, identifying how people can reduce their risk, and improving their detection and diagnosis.
We educate; we increase awareness and we provide free confidential and expert information through our Ask Eve nurse service.
We are now looking to strengthen our Board and are seeking candidates who share our commitment to driving forward medical research, raising awareness and promoting education around how these diseases can be diagnosed at the earliest stage or prevented.

About Derwentside College
Derwentside College is not your traditional FE college.
Located in a semi-rural location, high on the edge of the Pennines, the College is based on a single site in the heart of the town of Consett. We offer a diverse range of provision to young people and adults from across the local, predominantly rural, community. We currently deliver education and training to around 4,000 learners across over 200 courses, supported by around 170 staff.
Whilst we deliver a broad range of 16-18 classroom-based provision, including construction, engineering, hairdressing, beauty therapy, catering, health and social care and digital technology, along with maths and English, the majority of our students, 55%, gain their education through apprenticeships. Our differing mode of delivery is one of the things that sets us apart from other colleges across the northeast of England. Indeed, through this, we deliver more apprenticeships than other local colleges.
Graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2022, and with a refreshed strategic plan that will take us to 2031, we have a firm base from which to progress with our ambitions for growth, development and excellence.
About the role
Our board is led by our Chair, David Allsop, who has worked tirelessly with our Principal & CEO, Chris Todd, and other colleagues across our leadership team and board to refocus our direction and culture and to grow our aspirations as a college.
Part of this process has seen David and Chris work together to build a renewed sense of collegiality across our board. We have appointed several new and experienced members, successful experts in their respective fields who are already offering a new level of challenge, scrutiny and support. This is resulting in driving a more inclusive culture of successful governance.
Given the depth of our ambitions and considering our future strategic priorities, we are now seeking to recruit a further governor to our board.
Who we are looking for
To achieve our organisational aims, our board must continue to consist of experts and experienced professionals who can provide the appropriate levels of challenge and questioning to enable us to grow, develop and improve.
Following recent successful governor recruitment and further consideration of the expertise we need across our board, we have identified that it would be helpful to us to deepen the education expertise within our membership.
We will welcome applications from candidates with:
- Expertise in the areas of FE quality improvement and assurance
- Experience as a senior leader of FE curriculum and more broadly, FE institutions
- Experience and knowledge of inspection and compliance requirements relating to the FE sector
- Extensive experience as a strategic leader within the post-16 sector
- Experience of the development of study programme for young people and/or adult learning

Since 2014, we've provided vital support to thousands of LGBTQI+ individuals facing family rejection, honour-based abuse, and threats because of their sexuality or gender identity. Strategic Financial Leadership

Naz and Matt Foundation was founded in 2014 after the tragic loss of Naz (Dr Nazim Mahmood), who took his own life two days after his religious family confronted him about his sexuality. Since then, we’ve supported thousands of individuals and families, delivered hundreds of public talks, spoken in Parliament, worked with central government, and with police, schools, and media, and campaigned tirelessly for acceptance, love and understanding.
