Can you help us identify and prepare great items for sale online for a few hours a week in our Keswick shop? 

We need help for between 2 and 4 hours on any day of the week that suits you. Join our friendly volunteer team and help make a real difference to children's lives. 

What will I be doing?  

Typical things you might be doing in the shop include: 

• Sorting through incoming donations and selecting high value and quality items for sale online 

• Researching valuable items 

• Preparing, photographing and listing items for sale 

• Packing up sold items 

• Upholding the inclusive values of The Children’s Society 

What will I get? 

• Full training - no previous experience required

You don't need any previous experience to volunteer in our shops, but you will need to be:

Mencap Volunteer Visitor

Are you someone who loves getting creative, catching a show, or simply enjoying a good chat over coffee and cake? Maybe you enjoy painting, crafting, or exploring local galleries, or perhaps you love trying new cafés, going for walks, or just sharing stories and laughs. As a volunteer visitor, you can turn your passions into friendship, spending quality time with someone who’ll appreciate your company, your hobbies, and your enthusiasm.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.

Social Media Volunteer

Olive Branch Aid – Foodbank & Wellbeing Charity
Based in the London Borough of Lambeth

Role Purpose

We are seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Volunteer to support Olive Branch Aid in raising awareness of our foodbank and wellbeing services within the Lambeth community. This role is ideal for a student or early-career individual studying Digital Marketing, Communications, or a related field who would like to gain practical, real-world experience in the charity sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, create, and schedule engaging social media content across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter).

• Promote foodbank sessions, wellbeing activities, community events, and fundraising campaigns.

• Design simple graphics using tools such as Canva or Adobe Express.

• Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages appropriately, and help build an online community.

• Track basic performance metrics (reach, engagement, followers) and provide short monthly summaries.

• Work collaboratively with the charity team to ensure messaging reflects our values and services.

Skills & Experience (Desirable)

• Studying or recently studied Digital Marketing, Media, Communications, or similar.

• Familiarity with major social media platforms and current content trends.

• Basic graphic design and copywriting skills.

• Good organisation and ability to meet agreed posting schedules.

• Interest in community support, wellbeing, and the voluntary sector.

Time Commitment

• Approximately 2–4 hours per week, flexible and largely remote.

Can you help us to bring in the funds we need to make the food bank a success? 

We are looking for a volunteer Fundraising Lead to play a significant role in shaping a fundraising strategy, help raise awareness of Bounds Green Food Bank (BGFB) and generate income through events, projects and fundraising activities.

We currently raise money through grants, individual donations and community projects. We would like to broaden our fundraising initiatives and are looking for someone to raise funds, meet fundraising targets, raise our profile with key funding partners, and inspire relevant groups to support us.

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 1,500 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items and helping alleviate household food insecurity. We strive to promote social inclusion by supporting people and families in crisis situations and needing assistance.

The role: 

• Work with the Board of Trustees to agree a fundraising strategy, including setting annual fundraising targets

• Help to develop a fundraising team

• Identify income-generating opportunities and develop projects

• Build, develop and maintain relationships to secure funding

• Provide guidance to other teams that support fundraising initiatives e.g. the Grants Writing Team, Events Team and the Communication Team

Person specification: 

• Passionate about food insecurity and reducing social isolation

• Experience working in a fundraising role, including grants, trusts and foundations

• Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
• Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

Why we want you

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.
