Liberty Investigates is the editorially independent investigative journalism unit at Liberty, the UK’s oldest human rights organisation.

We believe rigorously pursued, collaborative investigative journalism can be instrumental in challenging abuses of power, and we believe it’s needed now more than ever. The team, currently made up of the Investigations Editor and two Investigative Journalists, undertakes work designed to have real-world impact – by holding power accountable, changing narratives and sparking positive change in human rights.

Our small team has worked with a variety of publishing partners including the Times, the Guardian, The Telegraph, Sky News, Channel 4 News, Dazed, Al Jazeera English, and local press. We’ve been shortlisted for the Private Eye Paul Foot Award twice, were finalists two years running for the Orwell Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils, and last year were shortlisted for the European Press Prize.

Funding has allowed us to recruit another reporter on a 12-month fixed-term contract as we deliver on Liberty’s exciting new three-year strategy. We are looking for an ambitious Investigative Journalist to help us deliver more impactful work on the role of AI technology in UK public authorities, particularly policing.

You will need to understand the power of telling stories and the role that journalism plays in mobilising action in the public interest. You will need a passion for upholding high factual and ethical standards. You will be excited about working in a multi-disciplinary campaigning organisation, and you will have excellent newsgathering, writing and contact-building skills.

Communications & Marketing Officer (Maternity Cover)

Hepatitis is now the world’s deadliest communicable disease, claiming 1.34 million lives each year. Yet the world has everything it needs to eliminate it, including affordable testing and treatment, a vaccine for hepatitis B, and a cure for hepatitis C. Lack of awareness, stigma and discrimination in society, and a lack of action by decision makers, has stalled hepatitis healthcare worldwide. As a result, 287 million people are living with the virus, but only a small fraction know.

We are looking for someone to position WHA and the hepatitis cause within the global health landscape.

The successful candidate will deliver high impact multi-channel global campaigns to communicate our work to key stakeholders. We are looking for a communications all-rounder, with skills across content creation, copywriting, marketing, and social media. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, creative problem solver, ready to turn their hand to a wide range of projects.

Roles and responsibilities

• Work effectively to create high-impact digital and print communications for WHA teams
• Deliver content for our flagship campaigns, including World Hepatitis Testing Week, World Hepatitis Day and NOhep
• Manage WHA and NOhep social media accounts on LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Facebook and Instagram
• Update WHA’s suite of websites to align with campaigns
• Conduct regular email communications
• Develop and implement successful paid digital promotion strategies

Person specification

The Communications & Marketing Officer works across multiple projects and needs to be able to turn their hands to a range of tasks. They are a self-starter and problem-solver, using their skills to create engaging content.

Experience

• Experience working in a marketing/communications/PR or similar environment
• Experience implementing multi-channel advocacy, awareness-raising and/or behaviour-change campaigns
• Experience working in and/or an understanding of global health and international development
• Experience in managing organisational social media
• Experience in managing freelance contributors and suppliers to ensure they deliver on time, to budget and specification 

Skills and abilities:

• Social media content generation and management skills, with experience of HootSuite or other scheduling platforms
• Clear, precise and engaging writing skills; including experience of producing articles, reports and blog content
• Design skills, with a good knowledge of the Adobe Suite
• Web management skills, with experience of WordPress and analytics
• Knowledge of MailChimp or other email platforms, and the management of mailing lists

Role overview

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week); working part-time (minimum 21 hours) will be considered. Occasional work in the evenings and at weekends will be required but with plenty of notice. Rainbow Migration encourages staff to maintain a good work life balance and has a TOIL system in place.

Salary: Starting at £46,000 with a potential step increase each year up to £51,253 (pro rata if working part time), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. We also try to give a separate inflationary increase every April.

Location: Remote or from Rainbow Migration’s step-free offices which are based in London between Vauxhall and the Oval. Hybrid working will also be considered and can be agreed with the line manager as per our hybrid working policy. The successful candidate could work from anywhere in the UK but would be expected to occasionally travel to London and other parts of the country for meetings and events. About Medical Justice:

Medical Justice works to uphold the health and associated legal rights of people in immigration detention and provides medical evidence, so the devastating health harms of detention are understood and acted on. Our paid and volunteer clinicians visit people held in immigration detention, document scars of torture, assess deterioration in health, and challenge medical mistreatment. We use medical evidence to secure lasting change through research, policy work, and strategic litigation. We work with parliamentarians and the media.

About Care4Calais and the Legal Access Department

Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK.

In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, working alongside communities in Calais and Dunkirk to provide warm clothing, bedding and service provision to displaced people who live in difficult and dangerous conditions.

Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as providing psycho social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to medical and educational services.

Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to support people seeking asylum in the UK by facilitating access to legal representation and offering holistic support to people throughout the asylum process. The department, made up mostly of specially trained volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and far less isolated and alone. We conduct one-to-one, complex casework for people seeking asylum for a variety of matters, over the years we have supported thousands of people to secure legal representation. Our current casework channels include securing legal representation and support for people’s asylum claims, challenges to unsuitable accommodation and potential removal from the UK (for example under the current UK-France ‘One in One out’ deal), and support for young people in their age dispute matters. Our teams work remotely across the UK. The Department seeks to adapt and amend our services based on the needs of the communities that we work with.

About the role

The aim of the role is to support and inspire volunteer teams to undertake the individual one-to-one casework and support that lies at the heart of what the Legal Access Department does, furthering access to justice for people seeking asylum and refugees. The Casework Manager will be responsible for the casework conducted by our Asylum Team, which focuses on securing legal representation for our client's asylum claims and offering holistic support through the difficulties of the asylum process. Casework managers will use their experience and understanding of the UK asylum system and conducting complex casework to guide their teams, working collaboratively with each other and the Head of Department to respond with agility to a fast-moving policy environment.

Responsibilities

Volunteer Management

• Lead existing team(s) of volunteers to undertake their specified roles as agreed with the Head of Department
• Conduct quarterly 1:1s with volunteers to give and receive feedback, reaffirm commitments, review caseloads, support with more complex cases, and ensure volunteer wellbeing. Escalate any issues and/or concerns to the Head of Department where necessary.
• Motivate and engage volunteers, taking into account the remote nature of the roles, collaborating with other Casework Managers.
• Facilitate regular team meetings and/or virtual drop ins for volunteers to ensure continued engagement and space to raise issues or concerns.
• Support volunteer caseworkers undertaking their roles, providing advice on casework and stepping in to support clients where required. Provide casework cover when volunteer caseworkers are otherwise unavailable.
• Supervise the casework conducted to ensure that volunteer caseworkers adhere to casework procedures so that every client receives the same level of service. Where volunteers may struggle to adhere to procedures ensure that concerns are identified and raised in a timely manner to reach an appropriate solution.
• Support volunteers to raise safeguarding / protection concerns through the appropriate channels. Escalate concerns where necessary. Support volunteer caseworkers through debriefs.
• Recruit, train and onboard new volunteers with the support of the Head of Department as required.
• Manage own, limited, complex caseload of clients where required to support the volunteer casework team.

Casework Management

• Oversee the appropriate collection and management of confidential client information and data, ensuring that volunteers adhere to organisational policy at all times.
• Keep team procedure documentation up to date, implementing changes where required to keep pace with the ever-changing policy environment. Work with the Head of Department to proactively adapt the casework services provided to suit the needs of the communities we work with.
• Work with the Head of Department to proactively identify systemic issues seen regionally and/or nationally and influence the direction of the Department. Contribute to evidence gathering and furthering strategic litigation cases supported or undertaken by the Department.
• Report on team progress to the Head of Department via pre-arranged channels and format.
• Attend relevant external meetings representing the organisation as needed, ensuring that knowledge and learning is shared across the department.
• Build and maintain robust understanding of the policy landscape impacting people seeking asylum in the UK, identify and attend external training opportunities, ensure that any learning is passed on to other staff and volunteers across the organisation.
• Build and maintain relationships with key partners and stakeholders, including, but not limited to local authorities, legal teams, and other NGOs focused on support of people seeking asylum.
• Attend and contribute meaningfully to team meetings

Person specification

1. In-depth understanding of the UK asylum system
2. Dedication to social justice with a clear understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, or a willingness to learn about these
3. Ability to work sensitively with a diverse range of people, demonstrating cultural competence, respect and compassion
4. Able to build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including those from displaced communities, legal teams, and other charities
5. Clear leadership ability, with the capability to act with initiative and drive
6. An understanding of the volunteer experience including potential challenges volunteers may face
7. Self-motivated and used to managing multiple priorities to meet deadlines
8. Collaborative team member with excellent verbal and written communication skills
9. Strong digital literacy, including ability to work on Google Workspace and Office 365
10. Resilience in the face of challenging and emotionally demanding situations, with a positive and solution-oriented mindset

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of HCPT’s Senior Leadership Team, responsible for the effective delivery and high performance of all operational and business support aspects of the charity’s work. We are currently recruiting for an ambitious and proactive Fundraising Manager. Reporting to the PBI UK Director, the Fundraising Manager is a permanent, full-time position. You will take the lead on PBI UK's fundraising strategy, managing a portfolio of low to mid-level trusts, foundations, and individual donor relationships, while supporting the Director and wider team on the engagement and stewardship of high-level partnerships. Day-to-day, the role spans grant writing, donor reporting, prospect research, donor stewardship, campaign management — including biannual match-funding campaigns — and keeping the fundraising pipeline and contact management systems up to date.

You'll also represent PBI UK in the organisation's international Fundraising Working Group and deliver a high-quality supporter experience through online communications and fundraising events, making this a varied and impactful role at the heart of an organisation dedicated to protecting human rights defenders at risk.

As Finance and Operations Manager, you will lead the charity’s finance and operations functions, ensuring strong financial stewardship, smooth organisational operations, and a supportive, compliant environment for staff and Fellows.

You will work closely with the CEO, Treasurer and Board, bringing the charity’s values into action in a fast-moving organisation responding to global crises.

There is hybrid working in place with this organisation with a minimum of 2 days per week required in their London office.

As Finance and Operations Manager, you will:

- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and financial controls

- Lead audits, manage banking relationships and ensure transparent reporting

- Strengthen operational systems, compliance, data protection and digital tools

- Manage a small finance/operations team and key external providers
