At Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, we provide specialist care and vital support to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families, across Berkshire and surrounding counties.
It costs £3.4 million each year to maintain our current level of care, with minimal government funding. Every decision we make must balance compassion with sustainability. We are now seeking an exceptional Director of Finance to help secure our long-term future and develop services in line with demand.

The Role
As Director of Finance, you will:
- Provide strategic financial leadership and be a key member of the Senior Management Team
- Lead long-term financial planning to ensure sustainability and resilience
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and reserves management
- Ensure compliance with charity accounting standards and statutory requirements
- Present clear, insightful financial reports to the Board of Trustees

About You
We are looking for a strategic and values-driven finance leader who brings:
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

This new role will take over responsibility for developing and managing all finance activities and reporting in this rapidly growing charity. You will have the opportunity to shape the role and the evolution of the charity as we grow, implementing financial processes and systems. As a key member of the Management Committee, you will work closely with the CEO, the Office Manager and the Honorary Treasurer.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely financial records of all income received and expenditure incurred
- Implement a new accounting system, as the charity’s growth takes it from excel bookkeeping to a new integrated finance and reporting system
- Liaise with the payroll bureau to ensure accurate and timely processing and payment of monthly salaries and related costs
- Working with the FHL office in Bethlehem, maintain accurate records of grants paid
- Monitor and maintain correct reporting of Restricted and Unrestricted income and expenditure
- Manage all UK banking activities and maintain oversight of the charity’s bank accounts in Bethlehem
- Prepare, validate and submit regular Gift Aid claims to HMRC
- Prepare monthly management accounts for the Management Committee and Board of Trustees
- Working with the CEO and Treasurer, prepare annual budgets and periodic reforecasts as required
- Working closely with our external auditors, deliver an effective year end close and audit process and ensure submission of Annual Trustees’ Report and Financial Statements to the Charity Commission

What we expect from you
Working alongside the Head of Operations, CEO and department heads, your responsibilities will cover Shift.ms and its wholly owned subsidiary, realworld ms ltd, as follows:
Financial management

Be the primary point of contact for our Treasurer, Accountant and External Auditor;

Review and constantly improve processes and internal controls for finance;

Lead the development of annual budgets and shorter/longer term forecasts as needed;

Manage accounting, budget and cash flow, and working with the CEO, develop cost reduction strategies as needed;

Prepare monthly management accounts incorporating variance analysis of budgets vs. actuals and headline narrative;

Manage monthly payroll with an external payroll provider;

Draft consolidated statutory accounts for audit and lead the coordination of year-end audit;

Prepare quarterly VAT returns for the Group and be the main point of contact for HMRC;

Make recommendations for corporate gift aid donations based on performance and future forecasts for the subsidiary;

Present finance updates in-person at quarterly board meetings normally held in London;

Manage and lead FinCom meetings, typically held quarterly;

Attend the trustee annual away weekend.
Bookkeeping

Lead the financial operations of the charity including recording transactions onto the finance system (Quickbooks), managing cashflow, invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, processing of purchase invoices and supplier payments;

Complete month end reconciliations as part of the preparation of monthly management accounts;

Track, calculate and process intercompany recharges to ensure costs sit within the correct entity;

Track and ensure correct treatment and reporting of restricted/unrestricted funds;

Process employee, volunteer & trustee expense claims;

Manage the relationship with an external payroll bureau, liaising with them to ensure payroll is processed accurately and paid on time;

Support employee onboarding including obtaining details for payroll and pre employment checks.

Hours: 22.5 hours a week

Salary: £40,000-45,000 dependent on relevant expertise

About the role
The role will play a critical role to help deliver an effective and high performing rent collection and recovery service in accordance with legislation, the organisation’s policies, set performance targets and customer satisfaction requirements. In collaboration with the Resident Services Manager to ensure that the organisation is compliant with all regulations and using robust policy and procedures and ensuring the right systems are in place to effectively manage the revenue and income streams and arrears of the organisation. Production of performance and management reports, setting collection targets in consultation with the Resident Services Manager and proactively monitoring and reporting in respect of service delivery, performance indicators and targets.

Maximise the collection of arrears by having regular meetings with the Team Managers; being proactive in contacting Support Workers or residents, providing them with clear instructions on information requests and repayment options.

To work closely with other members of the Revenue team to manage resident rent and accommodation charge accounts and other former resident debts, on a regular basis identifying trends and patterns on individual accounts and then liaise with Support Workers or residents to rectify income issues and address arrears in line with policies and procedures.

To maximise rent collection in line with targets by making arrangements to recover rent arrears and to enforce related tenancy conditions, ensuring residents’ rent accounts are monitored and prompt actions taken to prevent the accumulation of debt, and to authorise any rent account adjustments and refunds.

Finance and Operations Business Partner
As the Finance and Operations Business Partner, you will work alongside the different directorates of the Charity, providing financial information, tools, analysis and insight to Directors and Heads of Service. You will challenge their thinking, helping them to make more informed financial and operational decisions to help drive the business strategy.
You will work closely with all areas of the Charity, forming good relationships with stakeholders, providing real-time financial support and analysis. You will be a trusted financial adviser who is willing and able to challenge decisions in a valued and constructive way.

Providing a strong integration between Finance, Corporate Services, and the rest of the Charity, you will assist in driving change across the organisation, ensuring that Finance is always at the forefront of any decision making. A new role, the Finance Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the charity's day-to-day finances, contracts and risk management. As a member of the senior leadership team, they will support the CEO with strategic planning. A key part of the role will include financial planning and administrative support for the charity’s fundraising efforts as part of a £6.5m conservation and renovation programme. They will lead the preparation for, and presentations at the charity’s Board and related finance committees.
The postholder will ensure that the charity’s budget and out turn are closely monitored and that established financial controls, spanning the procurement to payments cycle, are firmly adhered to. They will lead budget setting, forecasting, and financial reporting (including management of the external audit and production of the annual report and accounts) and will support wider work programme-planning for the charity, setting the foundations for financial success and sustainability. In addition, the postholder will act as the central finance liaison with the Inns of Court of Inner and Middle Temple – TCT’s principal funders – as well as with other stakeholders, donors and cross-departmentally.

Being a Finance Manager at St Wilfrid's

We’re looking for a skilled and values‑driven Finance Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day financial operations of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
You will manage financial reporting, budgeting, controls, payroll oversight and compliance for both the charity and trading company. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll ensure financial information is accurate, timely and meaningful.
You will also lead and develop a small, dedicated Finance team.
This is a time of transformation for us, with a new Finance Director joining and with plans to change our Finance system over the coming year. As a result, we’re looking to appoint a fixed term Finance Manager for 12 months, with the possibility to extend or become permanent.

We are seeking a Finance Officer with excellent numerical skills and attention to detail, and good inter-personal skills to join our friendly Finance Team at Yeldall Manor. As Finance Officer, you will support and deputise for the Finance Manager in all aspects of the finance role including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, bank and cash reconciliation and the processing of donations (please see the Job Description for more details). You will also support our residents in the management of their money and benefits and accompany them to relevant appointments. A driver’s licence is essential for this role.

You will be a quick learner, able to manage multiple priorities and enjoy working as part of a small team that has a real impact upon people’s lives.
Yeldall Manor is a Christian organisation, and this role requires a committed Christian faith to meet the occupational requirements (in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010). This is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours per week) although 32 hours would be considered for the right person. About the Role
We are looking to recruit a permanent Finance Manager to join our busy finance team, working 30-37 hours per week, minimum 30 hours, ideally over a minimum of 4 days, starting salary £31,634 per annum (pro rata).
As Finance Manager, you will:-
· Provide day-to-day operational leadership of the finance team, including supervision, workload coordination, ongoing staff development and continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
· Act as the main link between the Finance Director and the Finance Team, translating strategic direction into clear, effective delivery.
· Lead month-end processes including the preparation of accurate management accounts, maintaining strong balance sheet control and exercising sound judgement on complex financial issues.
· Oversee income, credit control, cashflow, short-term forecasting and the administration of the finance system, ensuring data integrity, high-quality management information and appropriate escalation of risks or pressures.
· Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors as required.
· Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support financial understanding, compliance and the effective resolution of issues.
· Act as the first point of escalation for operational finance issues, escalating to the Finance Director as appropriate.
About You
We need you to bring:
·AAT Level 4 Qualification or significant equivalent finance experience, with responsibility for management accounts, reconciliations and income monitoring.
· Experience coordinating month-end processes and working across multiple income streams, contracts or funding arrangements.
· Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgement, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and identify financial and organisational risk and escalate issues appropriately.
· Experience supervising or supporting others within a finance setting, with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to continuous improvement.
· Confidence using financial systems and Microsoft Excel at an intermediate to advanced level, alongside a methodical, organised approach to prioritising work.
· A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to the values of The Advocacy People.
The following attributes are also desirable:-
· Experience working in the voluntary or charitable sector, including knowledge of SORP accounting, year-end accounts and liaison with auditors.

The Role
As the Financial Controller, you will report to the Finance & HR Director and support the Finance & HR Director in leading day-to-day financial operations, taking ownership of transactional accounting and month-end reconciliations. - Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including credit control activities, with support from the Assistant Finance Manager.

Requirements

- High-level Excel proficiency and ability to work with financial data confidently.
- Experience with accounting software (Xero experience is advantageous).
