We provide innovative open-access data, clear metrics, and actionable insights to leading companies, financial institutions, governments and campaigning organisations worldwide.
Corporate Performance: A growing number of companies and financial institutions are seeking to mitigate their impacts on nature. But many have made commitments that are not being met, and others are failing to take any action at all. Through our Corporate Performance work and Forest 500 project, we assess the policies and performance of influential companies and financial institutions. Our newly launched Deforestation Action Tracker monitors financial institutions with significant climate commitments to track their action on deforestation and associated human rights abuses.
We also support financial institutions and investors by providing a suite of guidance including our Deforestation-free finance Roadmap, Pensions Guidance and our Deforestation-free investment mandate. And we support the finance sector, policy makers and other stakeholders by providing market-leading data on deforestation and ESG metrics through our Forest IQ project.
You will be part of a leading, multinational, multidisciplinary, and multilingual team of experts, delivering this exciting program in a way that is effective, manageable and fun! We value diversity, inclusivity and creativity at the core of what we do.
This role sits in the Forest IQ team, along with a Research Associate, a Project Manager and the Forest IQ Lead. The Researcher will take on responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Forest IQ data held in its database, including the implementation of updates and ensuring the smooth addition of new datasets and indicators. Alongside other research responsibilities required of the role, you will draw insights from this research which inform Global Canopy’s work and provide content for communication products and engagement strategies.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

Experience in research work, and production of analysis, including in an applied setting.

Experience producing methodologies and awareness of key methodological concepts.

Experience in working on related issues such as sustainability, international development, corporate social responsibility, finance, deforestation.

Knowledge of relevant IT packages including everyday office suites.

Depending on the area of research, knowledge and use of GIS, R-scripts, statistical testing/data analysis software would be an advantage.

Depending on the research area, if you have knowledge of languages other than English, in particular Portuguese, Spanish or Bahasa Indonesian, there could be opportunities to use them.

Global Canopy, the data-driven organisation targeting the market forces destroying nature, is seeking a highly experienced, senior fundraising leader to lead their Development team, drive innovative approaches for fundraising excellence and contribute to overseeing their earned income growth.
Global Canopy is an ambitious, creative and dynamic not-for-profit with a special focus on ending global deforestation, most of which is driven by agricultural expansion for commodities such as beef, soy and palm oil that end up in products we all use every day. Their research shows that $6 trillion in private finance each year is driving this destruction, as well being responsible for climate change, biodiversity loss and human rights abuses. To tackle this, Global Canopy deliver radical transparency through their award-winning data platforms, detailing how consumer markets are linked to nature loss and enabling major companies, investors and governments to take positive action.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation that is experiencing transformative growth and is at the heart of global efforts to tackle the intertwined climate and nature crises. Over the last few years, Global Canopy’s income has grown significantly to more than £6 million.
The role will be responsible for taking a holistic view over all restricted and unrestricted income streams, including institutional, trusts and foundations and individual grants and donations, as well as a managing a select portfolio of the charity’s most important funders. The post will also play a key role in building on new opportunities for earned income from the charity’s data tools. The Director of Income will sit on the Senior Leadership team, contributing to future strategy and overall business planning.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, with experience of working at a senior/director level in a complex, international organisation within the not-for-profit sector, and proven success prospecting for, securing and stewarding major six and seven figure grants. They will also have a track record in engaging with and securing funding from institutional donors – or equivalent income generation experience in another sector - as well as experience of securing funding from international sources. Global Canopy are seeking a strategic and creative thinker who is a natural collaborator, able to create buy-in through influence and persuasion and with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Finally, candidates will have knowledge of the environmental space that Global Canopy operates in.
