Key Responsibilities
As General Counsel and Company Secretary you will be a key advisor to The Salvation Army and an active attendee at the Board of Trustees and all key Executive boards/committees, making an important and lasting contribution to the broader strategic direction of the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Secretary, with direct access to the Chair of Trustees, and working extensively with the Board of Trustees and senior executives, you will line-manage an Assistant Company Secretary and The Salvation Army’s Legal Services Unit (10 people), ensuring the delivery of high quality and pro-active legal advice to key stakeholders throughout the organisation, across its many, varied services and functions.
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience as a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales, preferably in an in-house legal team within a large and complex organisation and with relevant subject matter expertise.
- Senior leadership experience with the ability to advise Trustees, Board members, senior managers and employees on a range of complicated legal, strategic and business areas.
- A comprehensive understanding of the role of Company Secretary within a large and complex organisation and knowledge of relevant governance areas
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex information to stakeholders and so influence decision making, behaviours and culture.
- Proven ability to develop successful strategic plans with a 3–5-year time horizon.
- Strong financial management skills, with experience of setting and managing function/unit budgets.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical reasoning skills.
- The credibility to represent the organisation at the highest levels of government/regulatory bodies.
- Ideally, experience of successfully managing employees to deliver objectives and of developing/training staff.

Hadleigh Training Centre has been providing training opportunities since 1990 for adults with additional support needs. There are currently approximately 160 trainees who attend the training centre, following personalised pathways to meet a range of outcomes. All training is designed to maximise progression opportunities, whether this be in particular vocational skills, or transferable life skills such as motivation, self-esteem and confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
As Relief Training Programme Facilitator, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training activities for all trainees, embedding a person-centred approach within training activities, focusing on each trainee’s strengths and opportunities to increase independence. You will be required to provide comprehensive reports on each trainee’s engagement and progression towards their goals, including feedback on existing strategies within individual learning support plans.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:
- A passion to be a part of the delivery of high-level training programmes to transform the lives of those we engage with, with previous experience of having worked successfully in a learning environment.
- An awareness of the barriers faced by adults with additional support needs.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when it comes to developing good working relationships and building trust.
- The ability to identify a range of approaches when planning and delivering training to recognise individual needs.
- An awareness of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements such as health and safety, data protection, safeguarding, equality and diversity.

Key Responsibilities:
The Training Centre Assistant Manager will be responsible for understanding and actively monitoring all contractual and other relevant compliance requirements of all trainee funded placements. You will also be required to act as lead on the development and implementation of systems and processes to ensure these contractual requirements are met and recorded. This will include developing guidance materials and delivering training as required in order to support the HTC team. You will oversee operational monitoring of expenditure and income against the agreed set HTC budget and provide regular reporting on financial performance.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:
- A passion for developing and delivering transformative training programmes, with strong previous experience of having worked successfully in a similar role supporting the learning of adults with additional support needs.
- Strong previous experience of successfully delivering training programmes ensuring all contractual requirements are fully met.
- A strong understanding of adult social care funding streams, with demonstrable strong ability to monitor expenditure against budgets, and deliver accurate and timely financial reporting as required.
- Demonstrable strong experience of successfully leading and managing staff, including recruitment, development and performance management

Are you a committed and practicing Christian who is passionate about seeing the local church engage meaningfully and effectively with their local community? Do you see community engagement as a key part of the church’s mission to become a church without walls, coming alongside those who are marginalised and seeking to bring social justice?
The Salvation Army Community Services Department is seeking to recruit two experienced social or community work professionals to offer targeted professional advice and guidance to local missional settings (various SA centres including churches) to deliver their missional priorities. They will work with local leaders who are seeking to effectively engage with their respective communities, using community-based services as a key platform and discipleship space to connect individuals and the ‘non-churched’ to the Mission of The Salvation Army.
You will be part of a wider team who seek to enable, empower and equip local SA churches and community settings to ‘stand on their own feet’, via peer-to-peer learning /communities of best practice and thereby not be as reliant on National (THQ) resources. You will also spend up to one day a week as a practitioner based in a local SA church or other SA community setting.
This role has an occupational requirement that the successful candidate must be a committed and practising Christian and will be in sympathy with the doctrines of, and supportive of, the purposes and the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.

Location details: This role has a national remit with expectation that the successful candidate will be able to work across the UKI territory. Each of the team does however link with specific divisions and the successful candidate will be linked to Scotland and Ireland or Northwest England & Isle of Man and Wales. It is expected that the role holder will spend at least 5 days each month (including overnight stays) in each link division meeting in person with local corps and other colleagues.
Working hours: Minimum of 35 hours per week
