Are you passionate about ensuring that the Gypsy Roma and Traveller (GRT) community access support, receive good guidance and connect with local services?  Do you understand the challenges facing the Gypsy Roma and Traveller community?  Can you offer practical advice and support to those in need in areas of housing, health and benefits?

We are seeking a skilled advice and guidance officer to work with individuals within the GRT communities in Surrey.  We want to hear from skilled individuals who combine excellent communication skills, practical advice skills, good organisation and partnership working. Previous experience working with the GRT community is essential.

Main purpose of the job:

• To provide practical advice, guidance, information and support to GRT adults in Surrey that helps them secure appropriate accommodation, including access to relevant benefits and financial support.
   
• To signpost GRT individuals and / or their carers to connect to and engage with appropriate services.
   
• To provide Surrey’s GRT communities with information and advice in order to empower them to maintain their own health and wellbeing, with choice and control over their lives.
   
• To provide advice to statutory and other partners on working with GRT communities.
   
• To provide the above support either in person, over the phone, by video app or via email/website, that is culturally appropriate and appropriate to the individual and their support structure and needs.

Main tasks

• Support individuals in managing finances and benefit claims.
   
• Help individuals to find appropriate accommodation.
   
• Advise individuals in setting up and maintaining a home or tenancy.
   
• Signpost to appropriate health/treatment services, including in areas of mental health, healthy eating, GP registration, immunisation, family planning, pregnancy and use of NHS helplines and webpages.
   
• Signpost to culturally appropriate legal services.
   
• Give support in understanding domestic abuse and signpost to support
   
• Help carers and young carers identify themselves and know how to access support
   
• Support communities to be mental health aware and know how to access support for their emotional and mental wellbeing
   
• Signpost individuals to places they can develop domestic/life skills.
   
• Signpost individuals to places they can develop social skills/behaviour management and take part in social activities and training.
   
• Signpost individuals to gain access to other services, as required.
   
• Support individuals to use digital and online services

Supporting other organisations working with GRT communities

• Attend and contribute to relevant conferences, forums, training and briefing sessions regionally and locally, especially GRT related ones
• Liaise with Local Authorities, Health Authorities and other agencies regarding client issues.
• Advocate for Surrey’s GRT community through social media, letters and articles, as required
• Ensure Surrey’s GRT communities have opportunities to shape service provision and to voice their views and concerns.

Contract

• This is a permanent contract subject to funding.  We are committed to flexible working.

About the role

Your role will be delivering high quality housing advice and advocacy in line with the hub’s local community priorities and work alongside people who are experiencing housing problems to identify issues specific to Dorset.  You will plan and deliver casework to individuals and communities to help find resolutions and engage with community groups, local organisations and individuals to understand local housing issues and raise awareness of people’s rights.

Working within local community settings and alongside community groups to deliver advice and rights awareness workshops, you will ensure that people with lived experience of homelessness have opportunities to share their stories and views, participating in the design and delivery of Shelter services. Offering day to day support to volunteers, providing learning, shadowing and mentoring and being a consistent role model for our values are also key aspects of the role.

About you

You will be able to work with individuals and communities including people with lived experience of homelessness. You will have experience and knowledge of housing and homelessness advice and advocacy as well as the ability to carry out casework related interviews, maintain detailed case records, advise and support your clients to make informed decisions. You have a strong track record of delivering group workshops and presentations and collaborate with others to get the job done.

About the team

Our team in Dorset has been providing housing advice and support services within the area for over 20 years. We have office bases in Bournemouth and Weymouth as well as working in community venues and partner organisation sites. We deliver a wide range of housing rights, legal services, community and support work and advocate for change to fix the broken housing system.

About the Service

Service User Involvement and Volunteering are a key part of our 5 year strategy, and we are looking for a Volunteer & Service User Involvement Coordinator to ensure the views of service users, volunteers and women with lived experience of VAWG inform and support the development and delivery of services, operations, and ongoing strategy.

About the Role

Key responsibilities of the Volunteer and Service User Involvement Coordinator are:

• Implement and report on progress for both the Volunteering & Service User Involvement strategies.
• Work in partnership across other Solace’s departments, specifically with services.
• Promote the value of both service user and volunteers’ engagement across the organisation including supporting the Shadow Board and all existing volunteers and those in the onboarding process.  
• Engage and collaborate with staff and service users to increase the range of service user involvement opportunities available.
• Engage and collaborate with staff to ensure services’ needs are reflected accurately in the recruitment of volunteers.
• Network locally and nationally to share and implement best practise and partnership initiatives.
• Train and support service users to be involved in influencing opportunities.
• Train and support volunteers to be involved in influencing opportunities and where relevant support them to gain employment within the organisation.
• Coordinating and disseminating both the annual service user and volunteering surveys.

About You

The ideal candidate will be motivated, pro-active and supportive, with a strong commitment to person-centred work, volunteering and service user involvement, you will also need to bring with you the following skills and experience:

• Effectively involving service users and improving services and/or influencing decision makers 
• Working collaboratively with staff and managers to improve their involvement and co-production practice
• Working collaboratively with services to establish need and recruit volunteers accordingly.
• Thorough understanding of and a passion for coproduction and the benefits it brings
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a range of individuals in a variety of settings
• Experience of developing and implementing strategies, policies and or processes collaboratively with colleagues

Your role

As we look to further develop volunteering and implement our plans for the future, we are seeking a talented Volunteering Growth Development Manager. As part of the Volunteering Development team, this role is critical in developing the volunteer experience for volunteers now, along with planning and implementing new approaches to attracting volunteers for the future.

This role will work across the organisation but have a focus in developing fundraising volunteering and will lead on:

• Developing and leading projects to improve the volunteering lifecycle and overall experience
• Leading how to celebrate volunteering across the organisation
• Seeking new ways to increase engagement and retention of volunteers

This position can be homebased or hybrid (Poole, Dorset).

About you

You will be an experienced, motivated volunteering professional who has developed and implemented volunteering initiatives on a similar scale. Your communication and stakeholder engagement skills will be first class and most importantly, you will be passionate about making a difference.

Experience of operating across multiple jurisdictions (UK and Ireland) is highly desirable.
